Wanted: Humour in stories.

The only funny sex scene I have ever written is between two dogs out on the front lawn. I just didn't think this was the place for it.:)

Except for 'Donna', according to anonymous most of my stories are 'funny'. Whether anon meant funny-haha or funny-peculiar I'm not sure.

I would recommend "The Worst Chain Story Ever Chap 01", my contribution to the Literotica Olympics, Gullivers travels Ladies Day or my lowest scoring story 'White Scut' (an early attempt at Erotic Horror that is neither Horror nor Erotic).

Humour is in the brain of the reader and is not always obvious in the story.

As Woody Allen said, sex is the most fun you can have without laughing.

Sex and comedy are natural go-togethers, but humor and passion are deadly enemies. Passion and arousal depend on tension, and humor defuses tension. If you want to write something really hot, I think you have to have the jokes stop at the bedroom. You can smile during sex, but if someone starts laughing it kind of ruins the whole thing.

Plug: My "Matt Danger: Bondage Detective" is farce, <http://english.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=125065>
but when the sex starts it turns serious.

If anyone knows of a scene that's both erotically hot and funny at the same time, I'd like to see it. As far as I know it simply can't be done. You can write cute sex or loving sex with humor, but not the kind of ripping passion that interests me.

You make a good point, Zoot. I think the analytic mind has laid bare the crux.

(Why does everything on a porn site sound like a double entendre?)

Agreed. Non-erotic! Put it in Non-erotic and doom it to six views and a PC which didn't get it.;)

There really isn't a limit, in fiction, I don't think, upon subject matter. Much depends, though, upon how you handle it. In a novel or novella about a schlemiel trying to break free of his absurd condition, an interlude like you describe would fit perfectly, and have the reader in stitches, if you wrote it right.

Not that this is a challenge. :)

A good point that Zoot made about tension.

Then I realised that the opposite isn't true. Sudden tension or emotion in a comedy piece (when done right) seems to be far more intense. Expecting humour and being hit with tragedy, passion or tension is very disconcerting.

Then again, and this may apply only to men, or me, (I've never asked) even funny sex (SubJoe's Eliza Doolittle parody) can bring a hardening event. Why is that? (or is it really just me?)

One word, Gauche: Shaksbard

Dr M’s point is valid; indeed I made the same point at the start of this thread, namely that the humour should provide the contrast between the sex scenes; in no way is it a substitute for passion.
And I agree entirely with the comments of herecomestherain. One warms to characters with humour and that has to be beneficial to the story.
In my opinion, if a story is meant to be a serious one, humour will work best in the dialogue between the characters. The key is to get the balance right.
The humour in my stories tends to be subtle, and if I’m honest, I get just as much satisfaction from feedback commenting on the humour as from that praising my writing.

“Oh,” he replied, “you mean you wanna fuck!”

I'm forgetting my manners!

Sorry, I should have thanked those people who have given me recommendations for stories with humour. Please forgive my bad manners!
I will read these stories with interest.

During the past 30 months that I have been reading the stories on this site, I have found very little, if indeed any humour, other than in the ‘Humour and Satire’ category, where it is of course expected.

Does humour have no place in sex stories? I am not suggesting that sex scenes be deliberately written to make one laugh; there are more than enough people doing just that already, albeit without their meaning to. I just think that some subtle humour makes the characters more rounded, adds interest and provides some contrast to the sex scenes elsewhere.

What do other authors think?

Prompted in part by this thread, I wrote and submitted a short parody of the sword and sorcery genre.

I've thought about trying something a bit humorous, but it seems my love scenes always seem to get deep and emotional. A throw back to my catholic upraising. LOL But I am going to try harder. It would be a challenge for me.

My best received effort has a large element of humor to it. The story is perhaps even a little bit cruel in it's sarcastic portrayal of one of the four main characters, but I have received a lot of good feedback on it and it was the category nominee for the annual awards in the month it was posted. It is currently #16 on the Erotic Couplings Top List and is the story from which I get the most requests for a sequel.

I love humor and I even wrote a story for the Nude Day contest, but it's more "Something About Mary"-ish than sexually funny. Which I do agree is hard (pun intended) to pull off. I do have a nice sex scene after most of the filthy humor is done.
