Is what we do really that bad?

I struggle some times, on one hand wanting to be known for my work here. I'd wnat someone to go "Hey, aren't you Salvor, the thumb guy?". I'd love to share some of my pieces with colleagues and friends.

And yet..... There are people out there, mindless, afraid of pleasure, scared of written words who would campaign to have me fired, just because I write.
I didn't steal anyone's spouse away or violate their child, I just write.

And I write about one of the great pleasure os life. Sensuality, sexuality, embracing that gift of life that is so amazing and purely heart quickening. Something we all do or aspire to do. Why, why is it so frightening to read about?

My sympathies and support to the wronged person. May whoever stole your mask find their own secrets displayed twice as brightly.

I don't think it is, but there are some issues that can be tricky to negotiate.

One of them, of course, is role one fulfills in the lives of others. There are some professions (minister, teacher, pediatrician, daycare provider, mother) which people would really like to believe are performed by divine angelic beings with neither sex drives nor any petty human motives. While they realize at heart that this is not reasonable, they still don't like being confronted with evidence that their mental model is not being fulfilled. Whether this is fair or not, it's certainly there, and it's best considered carefully.

The other issue is that most of us really don't want to know about the sex lives of our friends and families. It's personal stuff, and we don't want to have to see a sex scene image every time we see those people. Sexual details tend to stick vividly in our imaginations, and we can have difficulty pushing them out of memory. Who wants to be trapped with the image of fat Aunt Bea on her knees blowing Uncle Albert every time one encounters her for the rest of one's life? This is, of course, a very good argument for people minding their own business and not snooping around trying to discover the secrets of other people's sex lives, but I think it's also a good argument for porn writers choosing to remain "in the closet" to their friends and families. It's information that many people really don't want.

this brings up a question I had... not to hijack the thread... ok so I'm hijacking for a moment... about publishing "mainstream" stuff out there in the world... a big what if.. but... what if you got published and got famous and someone then found out who you were on Lit, and all your stories here? Would you take them down, if you got published and became "Stephen King" kinda famous? Or would you leave them, do you think?

Even if you DO post your name, no one but Big Brother can prove anything but that it originated from your IP address.

That depends. If you win a contest your name is in the database somewhere attached to your lit name. If someone hacked into the lit servers and got the list then they and anyone they published the list too would know.
