A circle series.
Story one - Mary and John have a epic sexual adventure but end up going their seperate ways.
Story two --John and Amy
Story three - John and Grace
Then
Story four - Mary and Todd
Story five - Mary and Frank
Then
Story six, where Mary and John reconnect and realize there is something between them after all. Maybe it all happens inside the same social circle where they bump into each other occasionally while they are out with other people.

There would have to be an overall theme, maybe swinging or convention sex (comic-con?) Maybe they are part of the crew of a cruise ship? I could continue my stand alone MILF Cruise series.

I'll take any ideas except incest. Not completely against it, just don't see it in this instance.

I like it!

But I see two problems: I would get really tired of writing it after about the third story. And I suspect readers wouldn't have sufficient interest to stick through it to the payoff.

Perhaps the best way to pull it off is to have one person (or a committee) come up with the overall arc, and then have six different authors write each one of them as standalones that still advance the arc. Readers could enter the circle anywhere they choose.

I agree with all of that. I would have to come up with some overall storyline/plot that includes all of that sexual shenanigans, while keping myself and readers invested.
Some sort of adventure or dungeon crawl or ...
I got it. Tarzan and Jane. Not those specific characters, but E.R. Burroughs was really fond of that dynamic where Tarzan and Jane start out together, they get seperated and each has a seperate adventure before they reconnect at the climactic ending. He used it constantly in John Carter, Pellucidar, Venus, etc.

So my weird idea, is just a regular idea that has been used constantly since the invention of fiction. Go me. šŸ˜„

Sounds like this series. Two normal couples go on vacation together and happen to run into the high school crush of one of the men. She's there with her husband and they're swingers. 100,000+ words later, all three couples have swapped and there's been some group sex and anal and risk of catching feelings.

I liked that series, and I think it could also be good without the drama, or with drama from a source other than jealousy/insecurity/whatever. Maybe your version would take place in a cruise, like you said, or college campus or other place where the assumption of monogamy isn't as strong as in that version? Some annual trade convention where hooking up is common and the stories are separated by years?

I definitely wouldn't try to do it by splitting it up with other authors, or with a pantser approach. Write every word of the whole thing before publishing anything, or at least outline it all down to every detail of the plot and characters' motivations. Way too many moving parts otherwise.
