What’s the weirdest, oddest, coolest job you ever had? Side gig or full time?

I once had a guy who was going to prison, pay me to give him mma lessons, so he wouldn’t get beat up. Paid about $100 an hour

Did you beat his ass up for $100 an hour before he went to prison or give him a discount?

The oddest one I had was a company paid four of us to go to the movie theater and offer people a free pass to their next movie if they filled out a small survey. We didn't get any training, pre-written speeches, uniforms or anything. They gave us a box of surveys and movies passes and said pick a weekend along with $100 for each person.

The one I have now. The details of which are too unusual to post here.

I spent four weeks putting cards for prostitutes in London phone boxes. Paid quite well, too.

And I was an international drug courier for a while. Perfectly legally. Oxycontin and pharmaceutical heroin. Even customs and police weren't allowed to open us up.

when i decided to quit my job after ten years and return to college full-time, i took the first job i could find. it was with a national marketing/survey company, which isn't so unusual. what WAS unusual was the first survey they had me do. it was an ongoing job that they called 'the inner city gym shoe' study. i had to phone a list of numbers in a target area, ask their race, and if they said black i had to ask if they had a family member between the ages of 11 and 19 who'd be willing to take a survey. first of all, imagine some of the responses i got to that opening. when i did sometimes get a taker, i had to write down verbatim anything they replied to the series of questions. i rarely got pertinent answers, 95% of the time i got really foul replies and abuse. so, i wrote it all down verbatim. i later found out that the survey was usually given to newcomers and it had been going on for a few years because they couldn't get enough actual data to close it. they took me off of it.

Sperm donor.

Began before entering university and have been compassionately giving ever since.

I do it for the children, you see.

Plus the handjobs and bjs from nubile young nurses aren't a bad perk.

Great to know that there are more Lances in the world.

So the rumours are true? You used to "mule" drugs for LTR's Dad's drug cartel?

I've never had a weird job. Illegal at times, boring at times but never weird. I was a telemarketer for about a minute but that wasn't so much weird as just a horrible job. I lasted one shift. Thought about leaving at my first break but was like "no, let me see where this goes." Couple hours later I was gone.

It was a very cool job. I got to see loads of places I'd never have visited otherwise. Poland, Russia,Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway. Not exactly top of the tourist trail.

Haha.

I'm curious. Re the medical ones - are they free or do they get some remuneration? I know that students who donate their eggs get a modest sum.

Imagine being someone with 'superior sperm' like Matty (not Lance, he has a bit of Italian): do it twice a month - money in the bank. Beats volunteering for studies.

i was once offered a job smuggling diamonds by a neighbor in the 80's. i turned it down, which was fortunate since he was arrested shortly after.

My best and worst jobs came about through a friend who is now a minister.

First, she talked me into picking cucumbers. The pay was horrid. I made just over $2 for a full day's work.

I had to walk to a place where a bus picked me up. It was still dark. Not sure where it took us. Was an old school bus. I slept on the way there.

The sun was barely coming up when we started work. We were required to straddle the vines and keep moving without standing up until we filled our 5 gallon buckets.

When full, we walked the heavy buckets to a truck where the cukes were put through a sieve. We were only to pick those of a certain size. They might let it go if we had one or two that wouldn't fit through the sieve. Any more than that, and we lost the whole bucket and had to start over again.

A man who turned out to be a math teacher at my high school, walked up and down the rows, correcting our form and sometimes hitting people with a wooden baton. It was the kind used in relay races.

It was hot, there was no running water. Only at outhouse. We were given a quick lunch break on the bus. We brought our lunch. My mom packed mine, It included a can of Shasta soda that was hot by then, and a pickle.

On the way home, we were each given a Hershey Bar that was melted.

I got home sore, exhausted and blistered by the sun. I made matters worse by taking a hot shower and slathering on Ben Gay. Owie! That plunged me into some sort of weird fever where I got the chills. I never cashed that check when it finally came in the mail.

Next was washing dishes at the church. My friend normally did this but had other plans that night. I made $50 for two hours of work. In those days, minimum wage was about $2 an hour.

I scraped plates into a bin, then put the dishes in racks. Took them on a cart to the dishwasher. Rack went in, door went shut and they were quickly cleaned with scalding hot water. Rack came out. Another went in. Repeat, repeat, repeat. The dishes were so hot, they dried in an instant. I did have to let them cool. Loaded them back onto the cart and then into the cabinet.

As I left, they told me to take as much food as I wanted. There was really good roast beef, mashed potatoes, other veggies, rolls, real butter, green salad and some sort of dessert. Most likely Jell-O topped with mayo too but I didn't take that. My parents were over the moon because we had food for the week.

Now for my coolest jobs. Several of my friends worked at the local theater. Not movie but the kind that showed plays. One of them couldn't work so she asked me to fill in. All I had to do was mix some sort of non-fizzy orange drink to taste, make coffee, boil water for tea and take tickets. I did also sell the drinks and snacks at intermission. A seat was left open by the door so I could sit down and watch the play. There was no pay but I got to see the play for free and had I wanted to, I could have had snacks and drinks.

Other cool job also didn't pay. That was giving disco dance lessons. People would see me dance and ask me to give lessons at their parties. I met tons of cool people and got free drinks, weed, food, etc.

Your " how I met the love of my life story " is cute.

Thank you for sharing.

At that time was she even able to read?
