Welcome to Serbera

Rift

It didn't seem possible, but she appeared even more beautiful than before. Thankfully she hadn't said anything about the car.
"Sorry, no I don't know anybody by that name, maybe you could give me some directions?," I said, unable to take my eyes off her. At this rate we were going to crash before we even reached our destination.
"Go to Hackleby Street and we'll carry on form there" she said.
I nodded in acknowledgement. I tried to think of other things to keep my mind off Sara. My thought's drifted to Zeke and that guy Hank...
"Do you know anybody called Hank?" I asked.
"Nope" she said.
"Figures, he lends it to someone I don't even know, instead of me, his best friend" I mumbled.
"Excuse me?," asked Sara incredulously.
"Nothing. So, what happened?"

Sara

Sara frowned.

She was so sure Thomas had mentioned Rift, well, not exactly mentioned him by name, but the description fit and she'd been so careful when she'd checked him out.

Her thoughts flickered back to her father. She shivered again without realising it. He had been madder than she'd ever seen him before. She was grounded, no biggie, didn't matter that he believed her story, the fact that Rift had hurt him had him all fired up. She hadn't seen exactly what had happened but she knew her father had gone out to warn Rift off. She was half afraid he wouldn't turn up tonight as he'd promised, she was glad he had.

Jane was a harder problem to deal with. She was in Sara's face at every opportunity and she was always by Seth's side now. Always whispering something. At first Sara hadn't paid much attention but now, now she noticed her father paying attention to Jane. He listened to Jane. Sometimes Sara felt she didn't know her father at all anymore.

The other night she'd found something that had prompted her to try and find Rift or someone like him. Thommy.

She had fallen for him HARD. She was terribly hurt when he suddenly stopped calling her, stopped contacting her. She couldn't figure out what had happened. It never occured to her her father would have made him leave her. Not until she'd found what she had. It made her realise she was naive to trust as easily as she had. She didn't really know Thomas OR her father. Something made her want to protect Thomas Slade though. Despite the pain of having him ditch her. Thommy was the only one to show her any affection. Something she'd never really had before. It embarrassed her to admit how much that meant to her.

She looked up to see they had travelled quite a distance. She turned to look at Rift and noticed him staring at her, before he returned his eyes to the road.

"You... you've never heard of him? You don't know Thomas Slade?" She focused on him now. His profile, his relaxed demeanor, the confident way he handled the car. She looked at the interior and noticed it for the first time.

"Nice... car..." she murmered, looking at him again more carefully as if suddenly realising she could be in real trouble with him. She really didn't know him after all. If he WAS Thommy's friend though... she had to warn him.

"There's a diner near here... take the Donavan Street exit and you'll see a small detour about a mile down, take it to the end and we'll get some coffee or something." She said hoping he was going to listen to her. Somehow he didn't seem like the attacker type. But she didn't really trust her judgement about people right now.

Rift

As she gave me the next set of directions it hit me. I hadn't been paying attention, trying my best to keep my mind, and my eyes off of Sara. Slade! Of courseI hadn't recognised the name. Zeke and I always called him Slade, not Thomas. What would she have to do with a thief among thieves like Slade?
"You know what? I'm sorry, I do know him, he's one of my best friends. I just wasn't paying attention before."
"Theat's great!" she said.
"It is? Hold on. What's going on?"

Garret gave the clerk the credit card, and leaned back at the clothing Vixen chose to wear out.
"That is a very nice outfit. Not exactly hacking clothing, but it should do quite nicely."
A friendly smile met his lips. When was the last time he had given out a friendly smile? It must have been ages. The things she did to him.
Outside, the cool night air met them once more. He opened the door of the car, bowing to see her in. At that time, several police cars came to a stop around their car. One at the back, two at the side, and one stopping an exit from the front.
His eyes went cross, what in the hell were they up to.
"I demand an explanation at once," his voice was tight and strict. The door still partially opened in his hand.
"Sir, we need to speak with Hank."
"Hank?"
"Well, sir. We had been chasing the hacker Zeke for quite some time, and when we finally got around to arresting him... he, well, he gave us a bizarre story about being tied up and taken off."
Zeke, why would he pull off a story like that? Obviously Hank was right here in his car.
"That is utter nonsense. Get out of our way."
He shook his head, "Sir, we didn't believe it either, but he gave all the proper authorization codes. Even the main code which can't be hacked from any port outside the 'warehouse.'"
His eyes shot up at this. That was a code known to very few people. It couldn't be possible, could it?
He closed the door, moving to the front of the car. There, in Hank's clothes sat Zeke at the driver's door. He waved, with a familiar evil smile brought to his lips.
"Well, that was clever now, wasn't it?"
He tapped the glass. The poor thing was trapped now. The plan had almost worked, even Garret admitted it was good.
"Take him to the fortified prison cells, and have a guard posted across from him at all times."
They nodded, aiming weapons at the car, and the intruder inside.
"You'd think he would learn not to mess with me by now, apart from a smart brain he must have a thick skull," he said to Vixen.

(Dang you Pooh was supposed to help with the storyline but I'll go with your change)

Shakes his head, damn they caught Hank too fast. Zeke stepped out of the car, looked at Garret, and......smiled! The cops actually balked wondering if this guy was nuts. That's all Zeke needed suddenly the .50 cals came up and let loose stun rounds the shots accurate and swift. By the time the smoked cleared Zeke had reloaded, holstered the guns and had the door held open for Garret and Vixen. 'Get in Garret, though I may hate you I hate the Company even more so. Here's the deal you help me I help you. You wipe mine and Vixens slate's clean and I give you the terrorist group that's been bombing the hospitals for months now as well as take down the company. Take or leave it.'

Vixen

Vixen's eyes widened in surprise.

Zeke? He looked cocky as ever despite being surrounded. What on EARTH had he been thinking putting himself in the middle like that? And now he was...

"Garret..." she started, he looked at her appraisingly. Her throat closed up. What should she say? If she asked him to let Zeke go, it was equivalent to showing him she cared, and then... then it could be worse for both of them.

"Yes?" She glanced again at Zeke and back again at Garret. She managed a smile. All those years of covering up her emotions paying off big time.

"Nothing... I... I just remembered, there was a pair of suede gloves I saw in the store that I wanted. Could we... could we go back and get them?" She refused to let herself look Zeke's way. She tried desperately to believe he would be able to take care of himself.

"Sure..." Garret said slowly looking at her intently. She looked back her own gaze unwavering. Finally he took her elbow and led her back to the store. She forgot her earlier warning to him and let her touch her. This seemed to put him at ease even if she was not.

Back in the store she picked out the gloves from the counter and tried them on. The supple leather encasing her hands lovingly. They were short and left her delicate wrists exposed adding a sort of strange sexy vulnerability to her whole outfit. The sales woman looked on with admiration. "Lovely, the perfect touch." She smiled.

Vixen returned the smile, coming to a decision. She had to get tough. This wasn't the time for silly emotion. Her teeth flashed white and sexy and the woman gasped at the full impact of Vixen at her charming best. The cool sales woman actually blushed and lowered her head shyly.

Garret smirked before taking Vixen's arm again and leading her back to the car. She slid inside gracefully and Garret followed.

"You're not going to ask what will become of your friend?" He asked curiously.

"Should I? And you know better than anyone that friends are not something I bother about." She gave him a look that said that conversation was over. He shrugged but continued to look at her as the car moved away from the store. Vixen did think about Zeke though. He'd be in maxium security for sure. She wondered if she could help him at all or whether she would just be a liability if she tried.

She almost jumped as Garret's hand brushed her cheek. She didn't say anything but let him tuck the strand of hair behind her ear. It was a decidedly intimate gesture but she couldn't fault him for it so she just stayed rigidly still until they reached their destination.

Ooc: Help with the storyline? I thought this was the storyline.

Garret had wanted to answer that conniving little worm. Maybe spit in his eye too. The nerve of him, actually thinking he can still strike up a deal, like he thinks he has anything to deal with.
Vixen's loving voice and touch pulled him away though. Without a final look back at the cops pulling out stun guns and stinging nets, anything and everything used to take prisoners alive, he followed Vixen back in for her gloves.
Rich derk velvet that molded to her hands. He wiped a strand that fell from her hair and then, held those wrapped hands in his own.
"They won't hurt him too badly. Maybe if he behaves the council will reconsider putting him on the team. After what he's done tonight though, I doubt they would put him in charge of dispensing cheese though."
Personally, he would have just given the asshole the chair, but he saw the concern in her eyes, how she didn't want to see him captured. If anything, he would have liked to see her at least smile once in awhile again, even if it was for someone else, and not him.
"How about we go get some dinner before we head over to the place. It'll take people a while to sort everything out, and I'm sure that by the time we've finished the police will have your bike already stored at the Company's building. What do you say, we'll even go out for cantonese. I'm buying, "he looked into her eyes, trying to find that sparkle.

Vixen

"I... I don't eat Chinese anymore... but Japanese would be nice..." she murmered rather softly. She was actually hoping he would take her straight to the mysterious thing he wanted hacking into. She hoped that the sooner she saw it the sooner she could figure out what he was up to and maybe figure out how to get herself out of it all.

She had been so close to getting enough credits to get off this damned planet. So close. Seemed like lately she had nothing but bad luck come her way. She also recalled she owed a dozen people money. Jo not the worst of it, though if she didn't pay her it wouldn't be pretty. Damn.

Garret's flaunting of his credit was so tantalising. She could almost taste all her problems being bought away. She almost thought she could swallow her pride and play him for it... almost.

Rift

OOC: That's not nice, locking Zeke up without even asking...Don't carry your rivalry in the game into real life you two. Vixen isn't even a real girl :D (*Note: That was a joke by the way, before anyone starts bitching on me)

"Rift"
"Rift!"
Where was that noise coming from. It sounded like it was inside the car. It was coming from the VidPhone monitor. Zeke's face was just visible through the static.
"Zeke! What's wrong?," I asked suddenly, causing Sara to jump.
"Nothing much. They've locked me up in some Maximum Security Facility in the City. Don't worry, give me a coupla' secs and I'll be out of here. I just need you to do me a favour though..."
I didn't doubt that he would escape in no time at all, but the whole favour business was dubious; there was hardly ever anything Zeke couldn't do by himself.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Remember that girl that was with me? I want you to follow her. She's with that enforcer. Something big is going down."
"Sure, can you give me the tracker's code. I'm assuming you put a tracker on the vehicle?"
"Of course. It's 403020670. See ya in a little while"

Sara looked at me slightly worried and a bit upset at being interrupted.
"Sorry, we're gonna have to make a little detour..."

Sara

"Rift... I can't afford to get into any futher trouble..."

"Don't worry, we're just keeping an eye on someone for a friend of mine."

"You mean that guy Zeke... why can't he do it himself?"

"Because he's... otherwise detained."

She frowned, "you mean he's in jail don't you?"

Rift looked surprised, was he that easy to read?

"I never said that."

"You didn't have to. Look, can't you just drop me off before you... woooah!" Rift had floored it and the car burst forward with a rush of power.

"Like I said, we're just keeping an eye on someone, I'll get you home in one piece don't worry about it."

She looked too frightened to be worried about anything other than getting out of the car alive at the speed it was going.

Zeke leaned against the wall of the cell, damn you Garret he thought. The cops that took him down were too much they nailed him pretty good after they pinned him down. Though to his favor they thought he was injured heavily but all they did was put a few bruises on his skin. Zeke pushed off the bunk and looked at the door. Zeke smirked, man these guys were more dumb than he thought. He was gonna have to give Garret a pointer on how to hold augmented humans in cells now a days. Zeke first removed the internal hinges. Then drew his fist back and twisted his wrist slightly. The metal augmentation enclosed over his fist so when he hit the door it was like a 4 ton truck. The door flew off slamming into the cop across the hall, knocking him unconcious. Zeke pulled the cops body into the cell and switched clothes with him. Zeke then grabbed the door and replaced the hinges. Lowering his head as he walked Zeke passed through each security checkpoint and into the night. Zeke found the officers car and slipped in punching up Rift's vid-phone. 'Rift you on them?'

'Yeah not hard to miss the enforcer with the bruise you gave him.'

Zeke smirked 'Yeah well gonna give him another one soon, where are they?'

'The Japanese resturaunt on 3rd....Tommy Cho's place.'

'Good, Tommy owes me one for the credit fix I did for him, thanks for the help and sorry I interupted your date my friend.'

Zeke pulled up behind the Japanese resturaunt, calling ahead to Tommy he found out exactly where Vixen and Garret were sitting and Tommy saved him a table where he could sit unnoticed but yet watch them. Tommy also loaned him a pair of black jeans and a flame red skin tight tee that were left over from Tommy's cousin. Entering the resturaunt, Zeke sat down and ordered some food, the baseball cap also given to him lowered to cover his face from view. Zeke watched and waited. Knowing Garret he was gonna put Vixen in some trouble and that was the last thing he wanted. Plus he saw the hesitation in Vixen when he was arrested by Garret's men and maybe there was something that was begining between them. Well all he had to do was keep his distance and use the element of surprise. As far as everyone knew he was still in jail. Then a call came over the radio Zeke had hacked into that 'Zeke' was killed in a prison riot just a few moments ago. The real Zeke was saddened knowing that cop was dead now because Zeke switched with him. He closed his eyes and mumbled a few words of prayer. Whatever good that did but he did it anyways, hoping that the soul of the now slain cop was at peace and would not blame him. Zeke opened his eyes and watched. Also knowing that the riot was staged so that a 'Company' spy could kill him off for what he knew, Zeke wanted the 'Company' even more so now.

"So," he rolled what looked like seaweed from one part of his plate to the other. Japanese cuisine was not his favorite, but Vixen has asked for it. Tonight wasn't a night to upset her.
"So," he looked up at her, "You never did tell me what happened after I left. I tried to keep tabs of you through the police, but there wasn't much I could find. Then, after a while you sort of disappeared. Don't tell me you hung out with guys like Zeke did you?"
He let the last parts seem like poison in his mouth, and nearly spat them out. That man, he was... he was damn encouragable. If only they weren't on opposite sides.
"Come on," the green thing finally popped into his mouth, he managed to hold it down, "I'll tell you what happened to me."
Was that a spark of interest in her eyes.

Vixen

Vixen didn't usually bother with chopsticks, but she was loath to take off her new gloves, so with practised ease she picked up the delicately formed rice with the raw fish placed artistically on top and dabbed it into the dish of soy sauce. She popped the morsel into her mouth and chewed as she listened to Garret asking about her past. The past that occured AFTER their past together.

He was playing sweet, cajolling her, attempting to tempt her with revealing his own past.

She picked up the small cup of sake and sipped the warmed liquid thoughtfully.

"I'm amazed you would even admit to losing track of me." She murmered swallowing another sip before picking up another tidbit from the platter before them.

"I haven't been up to much. Just keeping my nose clean. I have different goals now... but I don't think I've changed all that much." This wasn't strictly true. She didn't feel as carefree as she used to. With maturity came a nagging sense of your own vulnerability. She didn't know when she started worrying about survival. She'd thrown herself into so many tight spots she marvelled she was still alive now.

"Look... you said this thing was big... when are we going to see it?" She asked suddenly.

"We'll see it soon enough. There are a series of gates we have to pass, and your profile and I.D. are all being processed. It takes a while with this computer, mainly do to the fact that there's no link to the internet. The entire shop is self sufficient, nothing goes in or out, no technology, no power, nothing."
A man nodded his head, and he returned the gesture.
"So, we done here? You full? We've got a police escort back to the place, just in case anything else happens. Strength in numbers and all that."
He stood up, putting on his coat.
"Vixen?"

Vixen...

Vixen looked up apon hearing Garret say her name.

"You said... self sufficient? How bloody big IS this thing anyway?" She grabbed up her jacket which she had hung off the back of her chair. A waiter almost lost the tray he was holding as she swished past him. Her cleavage and the sudden expanse of smooth back probably taking him by surprise. Vixen didn't seem to notice, simply slipping into her jacket and following Garret out of the restaurant.

She was unduly intrigued.

How was she supposed to hack a self sufficent machine? She wondered. Tricky. Her mind already flicking through several possible senarios.

Zeke slipped out the back door, sitting in the alleyway watching Garret's car. Watching Garret's car he vidlinked a news notice to be played as soon as the car was started. The news notice was the 'Death' of Zeke. He smirked knowing it would break down Garret's trustworthyness. Zeke kept the car running, lights off, the cop car was perfect cover for him since he could fall in with the escort and figure a plan of attack.

X

there is a scream from somewere in the back and X, who at the moment is red, blue, green, and orange runs from the back, he runs through the restraunt and out the front door, he then slides under a nearby vehical and grabs onto the bottem and hangs on with his hands and feet, waiting for the car to move, he changes his color ration so he is in camafloge and well widen, he will hang on until the car takes him some place else, perferabley some place far away from here.

Garret got into the car, after he had held the door open for Vixen. At once the monitor came on, displaying the evening news, but he shut it off. It wouldn't be right for Vixen to hear of Zeke's death. The poor thing had been through enough tonight.
Besides, he could deal with Zeke later, right now he had a promise to keep up.
"Well, there isn't much we've figured out yet," the car was now zooming through streets, heading to the 'Companies' main building.
"We know it's not from earth originally. It looks like some sort of ship, although nothing that anyone has ever seen before. All made from an alloy that we've never encountered before. We would like to get a sample, but the thing is made so solidly we can't even get a piece off to let the lab run some tests. We've tried everything to try and break in, apart froma nuclear explosion. But believe me, the council has been leaning harshly on that for a while now. Which is why I've got to get it open before they decide that. Whatever is inside is of no good if it's blown to pieces. Listen, the lab reports show..."
Garret stopped. This wasn't very safe. He knew no one could possibly be listening in, but some of the stuff he was telling her was very confidential. Even the president didn't even know.
"We're almost there. I can tell you more once we gat past some of the security markers. Maybe you can talk to it yourself and find out some answers."
He saw the raised eyebrow. Did he just say talk? He nodded, as if to answer her questions. Yes, he did.
"Shhh, it'll all be answered soon, I promise."

Vixen

Vixen watched as Garret quickly switched off the vid-link that seemed about to show a news report. He did it casually enough but something about the move reminded Vixen of something... from when they were together all those years ago.

He distracted her with his next comment about the computer. She had assumed it was a computer... but it was sounding so much more than that. Again her natural curiosity won out and she followed him.

He smiled at her expression but supressed her questions with a simple, "Shhh, it'll all be answered soon, I promise." She had counted on his promises once before they parted ways. She felt nervous at his words but it was so damn mysterious that she quenched her natural tendancy to disbelieve him.

He leaned across her to point out the building they had arrived at. It was monstrous. Huge. Dark. Menacing in the skyline. She'd seen it from afar before but up close it was truly overwhelming. She swallowed trying to appear unaffected by it. She didn't let herself look at Garret for fear he would be smiling at her again with that irritating knowing smile of his. So determined was she not to look at him that she failed to note his arm dropping around her shoulder.

The car parked and Garret got out of the car, hurrying to her side of the vehicle to help her out himself. She was mildly flattered by the attention until she saw him look around carefully.

'Silly girl' She thought, 'he's just worried about Zeke or someone else trying something again.' Holding her elbow with almost proprietary sureness he led her into the great building. Vixen's eyes widened despite herself at the armed guards all dressed in black. She could tell with just a flicker of a gaze that the highest most up to date security was implemented here. Garret seemed unpreturbed by the security and walked her inside confidently. Flashing his security tag at the Guards at the door.

Zeke parked right behind the cop car in front of him, noticing the cops getting out and heading into the 'Companies' building, he got out as well and entered flashing the borrowed security pass, sticking close to the squad of cops in front of him, then slipped down a side passage Garret had turned earlier. Zeke followed well back enough it looked like he was patrolling, but close enough he could overhear Garret and Vixen speak.

Garret and Vixen went through several more secutiry checkpoints before they finally made it to the elevator.
He smiled at the two men.
"Has X made it here yet?"
"No sir. After his last encounter, we didn't hear a word from him."
Garret let out a big breath, "What a shame. Well, he should be here soon. Send him down as soon as you can."
They both saluted, and Garret nodded.
"This is the elevator. The only one that goes down deep enough for us to get to the ship. If you thought the building itself was closely guarded, wait until you get a look down below.
He walked into the elevator, the doors closing behind him. After pressing in his own code, the elevator shot down.
"Don't worry, just a little different than your regular elevator. We are going down fast, cause if we went the regular speed of an elevator it'd take us damn near an hour. This thing was buried deep within the earth, almost past the crust. We wouldn't have even found it if it weren't for the computer registers."
They finally slowed down and came to a halt.
Stepping out, he showed his clearance to the guard. He nodded, and Garret moved to a computer on the screen.
"This is the hard part, let me just..." the computer printed out a security clearance for her. It was red like his own.
"Be careful with that, only twelve people in the entire world have clearance to go down here, it makes you lucky number thirteen."
Giving her the clearance, the massively built guards finally nodded and let her pass.
"Well," he walked down a long corridor, finally revealing glass panelling that showed what they had undug so far, "What do you think?"

Vixen...

Vixen looked at the thing wide-eyed.

Smooth... and strangely metallic... yet... altogether like nothing she had ever seen. She couldn't fathom how the rest of it would look, still buried as it was deep in the earth.

"It must be hot out there... we had to have travelled a distance... straight down. I don't know much about geology, but this planet's core is suppossed to be as hot as Old Earth isn't it?" She asked curiously.

She leaned forward towards the glass panelling to get a better look. Her cleavage becoming more temptingly obvious as she did so, again seemingly unawares to her.

"No lines leading out... how have you managed to get this close? How have you hacked into it so far? And what the HELL is it?" She asked glanced over at Garret.

Zeke was heading for the elevator Garret and Vixen were headed too, when a sharp pain hit him, a deep booming voice in a language uknown to him spoke in the back of his mind. Suddenly he moved, though Zeke had no control over his own body he saw everything that was going on. Zeke walked past the guards as if he was invisible, stepping into the elevator he watched as he pushed in a complex code too long for him to memorize. Then the elevator shot down, finally when the doors opened he saw the two massive guards but as if he was cleared they opened the doors for him. Man was this weird, Zeke thought, suddenly the voice in his head was speaking english. *Hello there Ezekial, it has been many years since I have been in one of your blood lines minds* Zeke saw Garret, Vixen and the guards staring at him as he passed them all. *We must speak Ezekial* As Zeke passed by them all he got enough control of his hand to grab a vid cam that hopefully transmitted to the screens behind Garret. No way in hell was this gonna be blamed on just him. To everyone's amazement, especially Garret's and Vixen's. a 'door' opened in the side of the ship, Zeke entered and the opening sealed over once more.

X

X droped from under the car and slide out, still cloaked, he looked at the building then walked to it, he sliped in, using his stealth to slip past the guards, he used his ablity to send off electricty to fry the key pads and opend as many doors as he could, he stoped at the elevator and waited for some one to come by, he would then slip inside and wait for someone to go to use it, or so he plained, something was guiding him, he used some sort of code to activate the elevator, he then came out of cloak and rode down the elevator. It opend, showing him to who ever was outside in the underground place. He steped out then stood their in a trance

OOC> Hey, Shouldent the ship effect X? I mean, he is an Alien life form after all.........

Ooc: Yeah, apparently the ship affects everyone.

Garret shrugged his shoulders, "Can't win them all."
He went back to the elevator, riding up. The ship had been opened, the seal broken. Looks like their hacking was over.
Walking out into the street, he smiled.
It was finally over. All they had asked him to do was to break open the ship, nothing more. Soon, he would be on a plane to Tahiti and be drinking Mowie Wowie's before sunset.
He would have liked to bring Vixen as well, but he saw her look as she saw the ship. SIT drew her too.
He hoped they all would have good luck in finding whatever they needed to find.

(The point for my character is over. He brought you all there. Now, I suppose, it's up to you)
