DJ sighed again, hearing her apologize. It seemed like he was always string apologies. Either they weren't interested, were just friends, or they failed to tell him they were taken. He cursed his shitty luck with women. It seemed like he was bound to fail. Hell, 3/4 of the time he wasn't even looking for a romantic relationship.
"Tess, I'm not the guy from your past. I won't abuse you, but I won't put up with being held at arms length. I'm not pushing for a relationship. The kiss was an impulse, me rolling with it. Probably alcohol fueled as well," he said.
He didn't know what else to say other than, "I'm sorry for the confusion. Maybe we should just clearly define that we are friends. Make this easier so you can actually start to trust me," DJ said. He regretted it immediately, not meaning for it to sound like a do at her. All he just wanted was for her to feel safe around him, that she could trust him. He didn't want to hurt her, nor would he mean to.
"Seeing as I keep fucking up when I open my mouth, it's up to you on what we are. Friends, acquaintances, or whatever. You decide and I'll go from there. If you'd like, I can leave though," he said. His keys were still in his hands, his thumb hovering over the remote starter to his big 2500 Cummins diesel. He just wasn sure what to do anymore.
