West Richland Tavern.

Jack looked down at his watch as he got a glimpse of what time it was. "Why couldn't this night go by faster," he thought to himself. He figured if tonight was going to be such a slow night he may as well go back to the tavern and get a late dinner depending on how the next few hours played out.

Kari purred as her rear was handled. She enjoyed the attention more than she should've and knew it would eventually get her into trouble.

Hannah glanced over at Troy and her cheeks grew heated. He always brought out the sweet childlike nervousness in her. She could feel his eyes, studying her, watching her as if looking for something. This caused her stomach to tie in knots but what could she do, ask him to stop?
The men who had been hitting on her sort of swayed away as he approached clearly nervous about his presence. Hannah only smiled warmly and kept their drinks coming. Only when she got a small break id she finally acknowledge Troy.
"Yes darling?" Her voice danced softly, the leathery tightness of her corsette causing her to gasp slightly when she spoke. She bit her lip and adjusted the leather wrist band. The sweat collecting under it burned the healing cuts and caused a slight discomfort that she refused to allow be seen.
When the light touched her skin just enough, tiny white crosses could be seen up and down her arms, but only when they were looked for. Only when you knew what they were did they become apparent.

She had startled Ethan a bit when she had spoken. He hadn't even realized that he had zoned out. One minute he had been thinking of how absolutely breathtaking she was. That thought led to one of what she might be like in bed. That one led to remembering the last disaster he had encountered with a woman. That led him to thinking about why he had come here in the first place the other night. And as if right on cue, that one led him to remembering how much he missed having someone to go home to.

"Uhm yeah, another double please." he said reaching for a couple more bills in his pocket. "Actually, bring me two, I'm suddenly feeling...thirsty. Just take the money with you, I need to step outside and smoke." he finished with a weak smile as he stood and grabbed his jacket.

Two doubles, she thought to herself he must be trying to forget something.

"Sure thing," she said as she picked up his glass. She watched him intently for a second, Tess was never one to sugar coat anything and she was usually just plain blunt.

"Are you okay? Maybe it's not my business, actually im sure it's not my business," she sighed," sorry. I'll just get your drinks."

She shook her head as she turned around, wishing she had kept her mouth shut.

"Did you ever..." he said quickly before she walked away. "Did you ever wish that the greatest thing that had ever happened to you, never happened?" He couldn't believe he was going to get into this, with a total stranger. "That way, when you lost it, it would kill you every day when you remember what you had been lucky enough to have."

His fingers moved forward and back, rolling the little gold band on its axis. It was his anchor, his source of strength. It was the reminder of the thing that he wished he could forget.

Tess heard him and turned slowly around, the mild shock on her features replaced by concern and sadness. She watched him standing there, he looked so defeated and lost.

"Whatever happened,"she started and lost her nerve so she took a breath and put her delicate hand over his,"I mean whatever it is you lost isnt going to be fixed or brought back because of this," she gestured to the empty glass in her hand," it's not the answer. If you really want two more doubles I will get them for you but think about it."

She pulled her hand away and waited.

Ethan thought about it for a moment, then took a deep breath. He looked into her eyes, "Nothing can fix it. Nothing can bring it back. That's why I need that, to forget I ever had it." and with that he put on his jacket, and grabbed the pack of Winstons out of the pocket.

"Be back in a few minutes." he said before walking to the door and out into the night air.

Tess watched him until he got to the door before heading to the bar to put in his drink order and she took a chance and asked for another special. She might not have known him at all but she was at least going to try and get him to eat if he was going to drink this much. Tess instinctively glanced at the door to see if he was coming back yet but he wasn't. She hurried and got his drinks, a glass of water and a special on his table. She dropped off Wolf's dinner too before checking on all her other tables.

Still waiting patently for his dinner, the IPA label lay alongside the bottle. Overhearing Tess and the man at the bar, recalls his substance abuse issues his eyes met hers. Nodding his head the mans direction, she would understand what Eugene meant. Mouthing the words - been there - to Tess, the poor soul was in need of a friend. She brought Eugene his dinner, placing it in front of him carefully. ''Thanks Hun. The guy drowning his sorrows, do you know his name?''

"No idea, never seen him here before. Keep an eye on him for me?" Tess asked tentatively.

She looked around and noticed things were starting to slow down. She still hadn't spoken to DJ at all but she was pretty pissed off about how he'd acted. He didn't seem like he even cared whether or not he had hurt her. She just continued doing what she needed to. Whatever.

Ethan leaned against the wall and closed his eyes as he felt the nicotine begin to course through his veins and the craving that had been screaming for relief inside his head began to subside. He looked at the red embers as they glowed in the darkness and cursed himself for being such a pussy. He had quit when he had started dating Lisa, because she had been allergic. It was brutal, and he felt like he had gained fifty pounds, but she had kept him in a steady supply of gum and called several times a day to encourage him. After a while, he didn't even miss them and the rewards of being smothered in kisses had made the pain well worth the gain.

He finished the smoke and headed back inside. When he got back to his table, the doubles were there, but so was a plate of hot food, and a glass of water. He smiled, as he took of his jacket and returned it to the seat back. He sat down, and grabbed his fork, suddenly remembering how hungry he had been when he walked in here.

Ethan looked up from his meal to see if the young waitress was in view. He had no idea how she knew what he had needed, but it seemed somehow women always knew. He scanned the patrons at the bar and noticed that one of the was wearing a Wolf's Custom Shop shirt.

Nodding to Tess as Eugene began to eat his dinner, the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes & gravy. Was a deliciously prepared meal, he noticed the guy looking at his shirt. Lifts his beer to him with a nod. ''Hey, how's it going? Takes a sip of beer sitting back down, taking a bite of food he spoke after a minute. ''I'm Eugene McIntyre I own Wolf's Customs. My shops across the street if you ever want a bike.''

Ethan had just finished taking a sip of his whiskey, when he noticed the guy in the shirt giving a beer wave. Ethan held up his glass in response and then wiped his lips with a napkin.

''Hey, how's it going?" the guy said before taking a sip of his beer and then digging in for another bite of his meal.

"Aw, you know how it is. I'm just livin the dream." Ethan replied before taking another long pull of the whiskey.

''I'm Eugene McIntyre I own Wolf's Customs. My shops across the street if you ever want a bike.'' he continued after finishing his mouthful.

Ethan, down the rest of his double, and then grabbed the other before standing up and heading over to his table.

"Eugene, Ethan Summers." he said extending his hand. "Mind if I join you for a bit?"

''Yeah been there done that...you know the rest. Please to meet you my friend.'' Eugene wipes his mouth with a cloth napkin, reaching across the table to shake his hand. He pushes out chair with his boot, for him to take a seat at the table. ''Sure take a load off man'' Continuing to eat his dinner as Ethan sat down, the alcohol on his breath was eyes watering. ''The bike over there against the wall...that's an example of my custom work.''

Alexa sat down as things slowed down and ran a hand through her hair and massaged her ankle some. As the day went on, she was getting more and more down on herself, and that wasn't good. She needed to dance, and soon, or else things were going to get ugly for her.

She looked over at one of the twins. "Hey, I'm going outside for a moment, I'll be back in a few," she told her. "Let Tess know if she asks."

Finding an emergency cigarette, she went outside, lit up, and took a long drag to cool down. It was only time she would smoke, is when she was absolutely down on herself.

It didn't take long for her to finish the cigarette. Putting it out, she went back inside and continued to work, feeling a little better, but not much. It would get her through her shift.

Ethan took a look over to the steel horse that Eugene had indicated after he took his seat.

"She's a beauty. Love the finish work. Wiring loomed inside the frame...that's good stuff. Nice to see there is someone that still takes the time to handle the details."

Ethan had meant it. He had always been a bit of a perfectionist himself, but dealership work didn't lend itself to artistry. It was all about speed and volume. Fix it fast, right, and cheap. That's all anyone ever seemed to care about.

"You do the paintwork yourself?" Ethan asked having a good idea he already knew the answer. This guy a reputation of doing everything in house, and in this kind of business, that was better than a top shelf website and an ad campaign.

Tess cycled through her tables one more time, she sat down at the end of the bar for a break. Her legs were really starting to bother her. Thankfully It was slower and she hoped it would stay slow for the last two hours of her shift. She saw Ethan sit down with Wolf and thought it was probably better for him to have company, might keep him talking instead of drinking as much.

After 15 minutes she got back up and checked on everything, took some drink orders and cashed out some receipts. Tips were great tonight she thought as she headed for Wolf's table.

"Hey guys, can I get you anything?" Tess smiled at both of them sweetly, wondering if the food had helped the stranger's mood at all.

Eugene never had the chance to answer. The stunning young woman from before approached the table and asked if they needed anything else. Ethan looked between the two of them, and even in his inebriated state, he could sense a familiarity between them.

"Actually..." he said downing his last double and standing. "I need to get going."

He grabbed a pen from his coat and wrote a number down on it before sliding it across the table to Eugene.

"It was great to meet you Eugene. I need to get with you to see if you could hook me up with some airbrushing I need done on a project of mine. If you get some free time, I'd like to have to come see it and see what you think."

He turned to the young woman, "How much do I owe you for the food and drinks?"

Hannah's gaze rose slowly and it landed on Ethan as he.sat with Wolf and spoke to Tess. She then allowed her eyes to glance away. She gently gripped the band around her wrist and faked a dazzling smile as she spoke to the few customer remaining.

Tess waved him off.

"Nothing, you gave me 40$ earlier and your total is 30$. Do you want change," she asked him as he stood and put on his jacket, the smell of the alcohol was rolling off him. He did not need to be driving anywhere.

"Do you want me to call you a cab," she was starting to get concerned about him and she didn't even know his name.

She looked around and located Troy, if he refused her offer she would have Troy call him a cab anyway and take his keys. She didn't want to make this stranger mad but, having a fatality on her shoulders from drinks she served him just didn't sit right with her.

DJ was managing the music and lights, making sure things were going smoothly. Since Kari and Dee took over, he had relaxed most of the night, watching things slow down. Now, nearing closing time, there were only a few patrons left. He took a breath, steadying himself, before wondering if a confrontation would end up occurring, or if it would wait until tomorrow.

"A cab? Nah, I can walk from here. It isn't that far, but thank you." Ethan said a little more confidently than he felt.

The alcohol was hitting him a little harder than he had anticipated. He reached into his pocket and pulled out another twenty, and laid it on the table.

"I believe I still owe you for a drink after your shift, that should cover it."

He straightened up his jacket, and turned toward the door.

"Thank you for everything, it was nice meeting all of you. Have a good night." he said before taking a few wobbly steps toward the exit.

Tess cringed as she watched him attempt to walk to the door. What if he passed out on the way home and cracked his head on the pavement? She wondered. Or worse, someone intending to mug him could really hurt him.

She sighed, there wasn't anything left for her to do except call reinforcements She waved Troy over and spoke quickly and quietly,

"Call him a cab or walk him home, he is definitely not in any kind of shape to be walking alone or driving," she told him before the stranger got to the door.

Troy saw Tess's look and nodded his head at her to let her know he would back her up on whatever she needed. Turning to look at Hannah he glanced pointedly at her wrist band and then smiled at her.
"I think maybe we should have a talk after we close up tonight don't you Honey?"

DJ saw the man trying to walk out. He made his way over to Troy as they walked out. "If he is someone who can be walked home, I can cover for you, or I can wait while a cab arrives if you have other things to take care of," he said. His station wouldn't be done until everyone else had left and he could close up for the night, so he really had nothing else to do.
