What accent makes you puke?

Problem Child...Don't like Middle Eastern Women Wailing?

A little irony here. Anytime you miss that Middle Eastern wail thing let me know I can provide the irritation for you. Turns out I'm of Middle Eastern ancestry and can do that "hollering" pretty good. Of course here at ethnic socials or to impress friends is about the extent of it, so no gunfire follows. Thought it was kind of funny; thing is being a number of generations removed I'm not sure what if any real meaning it has. Maybe I ought to find out huh?

People in the UP of Michigan. I have family there and it drives me psycho when they call me. :(

they say "Aye" after every sentence they say too. Ugh.

Derya,

I guess the reason that sound grates on me is because it represents martyrdom.
Martyrdom doesn't do anything but glorify death and violence and help to perpetuate both.

Problem Child

I agree with you regarding martyrdom. With the ethnic community in the city where I live we kind of engage in that "wailing" at times when activities are exciting or energized such as at parties, dances, and festivals. It's always been used as a sign of joy and partying. I actually did not know anything about the martyrdom aspect, but as mentioned we relish our heritage, but are third and fourth generation Americans, so meanings sometimes change or take on new directions. Have a good day! I won't holler!
