What desktop would you get?

With OSX, that's fine.. It's BSD Unix with the Mac Darwin desktop.

I agree get a mac, but I'd get a G3 or G4 cos the latest mac with OSX is more like a PC... with the unix underneath and the pentium processor... on a mac? PCs just crash too much for me!

sure, it takes a few tweaks, but PCs don't actually crash that much anymore. especially when running Linux and other non MS OS's.

Most computer crashes are caused by software. And Windows is much more unstable than Linux and OS X. OS X on an Intel chip (Core Duo, not Pentium) is just as stable as OS X on a G3 or G4.
