What is the most important thing about a person that must always be there before you would consider any type of relationship with them?

This might sound obvious, but that "spark" or "connection". Without that, what's the point?

One top thing?
A non judgmental attitude. To put it positively, generosity of spirit

Interior: A personality I can relate to.
Exterior : I'm a sucker for a pretty face

A guy once asked why I didn't ask him any questions and I told him the captain of the football team holds no interest for me. I've always liked the guy sitting in the corner at a party. Not because he is afraid to join in but because he prefers to watch the circus of events around him. He knows who he is, good or bad. He isn't afraid of his faults, although he may hate them. He doesn't play nice with people just because he is expected to. He gives what he wants and takes the same. He doesn't always realize his value. He may often think he doesn't have any because he doesn't fit in. He isn't shallow but most people will never look beyond what they see. He isn't for everyone, not even for most people. This is what makes him worth the effort.

I look for this in friends as well, which is why they mean so much to me. I can't just pick them off a shelf if I lose them.

First and foremost, intelligence. That SHOULD be secondary to kindness, but I'm shallow

That is perfect.

Interests I can relate to. But not only what I know because it is always nice to learn and have new ideas and experiences. A sense of humour. Intelligence. Thoughtfulness.
And I do understand about that one off to the side. I find the most interesting people aren't in the middle of the party but off on the edges. Introverts are there and they intrigue to me

Agreed.
I also agree with intelligence. One of the best traits my man has is he is so bloody smart! He teaches me new things all the time and doesn't find it a burden to educate me! Sometimes he is just surprised I didn't know already! It's so sexy when he shows me "how to" do something.
Also, similar tastes in music. I can't do chores without blasting my radio, so that is vital! On our first date I recall us talking about the evolution of punk rock and listening to Green Day's Dookie album on repeat. I knew then, I could fall in love with him. 🎼🎧💕💋💿🔊📟🎶💘

Brains. And not just book smarts. A good head on someone's shoulders is vital.

And wit. Life's too short not to laugh.

Totally agree. It's such a turn off for me when someone only speaks in absolutes or is blatantly self-centered.

Generosity and open-mindedness are probably my top two. Even in just a physical relationship, I want a giving lover, who wants to bring as much pleasure as he gets.

A heartbeat is always a must for me lol ;) After that someone that is fun and doesn't take life too seriously. Has to be caring and someone who accepts me for who I am, flaws and all, as I would do with them. Someone with ambition and a bit of drive about them too, but can also sit on the couch and play computer games with me on a rainy day. :)

I'm definitely of the opinion that one's flaws are what makes a person unique. We all have flaws yet most of us try to hide them like it's wrong to have flaws.

Flaws are what make us different, it would be so boring if everyone was perfect! It's the imperfections in us that make us stand out and therefore I wouldn't attempt to change anything about any partner of mine, never have.

That's why I'm not good at giving advice to those lonely love starved people everywhere.

Both my wife and I are perfect in our own ways and have stayed together since 1956. Maybe that's why we stand out in a crowd.

that's so lovely. People throw relationships away these days because everything in this world is too disposable, everything has been built to break down in a few years and relationships seem to be part of that new culture. Had he lived, I would still be married to the best guy in the world, because we loved each other flaws and all. So I am so happy for you, although I can't help feeling a little bit envious. x

Thank you. Good or bad, we've argued, we've fought, we've hated, but we've always made up.
At this time of our lives we need each other more than ever.

I didn't even find my wife, she found me. I just followed her home like a puppy.:rose:

To read our Lit stories most would never believe what we've been through and done.
On the surface, we are just a normal grandpa and grandma.
