Then there's the trouble he's storing up for the future: inflation, unemployment, massive deficits, trade instability, a defeat in Ukraine that makes the USA look painfully weak, etc etc etc.

Most likely, they'll try to forget him, maybe bringing back people like Elizabeth Cheney?

He'll be like Jimmy Carter, a president whose party would much rather forget about and move on.

The next one or two presidents could be capable of making some necessary improvements and generally finish the work that Trump started. The political rhetoric will cool down as the passionate shouters move on to religion or death. The federal government will probably be mostly functional for a few decades. The lessons we learned so painfully will be forgotten again. The greed and all the mistakes that make the next populist movement necessary will creep back in. We can expect something like this again around the year 2100. Farmers may become the new ruling class then.
