If you are referring to ISIS, the root cause is they want to kill or enslave everybody in the world who does not agree with them. How else but by killing them all do you prevent them from doing this?

And what is the root cause rudra? I dont stand for eye for an eye but i do stand for what is just.

One of the steps involved may use violence, but that should be a last resort.
Also, I haven't mentioned a specific target. Note that the OP has used the word "country", which means a Government, it's entire cabinet of ministers and citizens who may or may not be sympathetic towards the cause of it's leaders. After all, not all US citizens should be punished for some stray drone attacks or even organized follies like some wars waged.

What if we destroy every single member of a particular outfit but do nothing to correct it's flawed ideology and it's proponents left behind to engender an atmosphere of even more hate and encouraged vilification? It needs an entire society, the world, to nurture a sapling to become a good tree, to steer the entire set-up of citizens in a country to stop hateful thinking.

A military solution may only be a first step. We need to make sure we remove the residual hate behind, that may create future problems. This was what I meant by reaching the root.

I may not have an exact and watertight strategy for one of the world's biggest problems, but I can at least see a very obvious downside to a particular plan.

You sound like this is some sort of conventional everyone stand up and put on a uniform kind of war. Are any of us at war with Saudia Arabia, Iran, Syria or Iraq.

For what you apparently wish for requires that a formal government be in place to be attacked. Or what just bomb civilians? What are the legitimate targets you wish to bomb? Or are you just going to put bulleyes on downtown?

What flawed ideology? What Abrahamic tradition religion would you be referring to? Do you think ISIS are really devout and faithful Muslims? These guys are the Nazis of Islam. Islamo-fascists. They thrive on hate, isolation, bigotry and fear. You fear becoming your enemy. Use his weapons, hate, isolation, bigotry and fear.
