What is going on?

I don't get it. Why are ratings dropping so sharply for fake news outlets?

Most people are probably tired of CNN’s 24/7 recycled BS and MSNBC’s conspiracy theories, either that or they are burned out on 3years of ..... Nothing else being reported in the News except Trump.

People stopped watching them that's why :D

Porn sites ratings probably are better. Do you have ratings for them?

Americans haven't lost their recognition of horse shit despite the advent of the automobile a century or more ago.:D

I gave the real answer. End thread. OP is clinging to a dying medium.

The world is changing and to some folks that's scary so they cling to things like, "I want my- I want my- I want my MTV!"

When the joke, "They don't play music videos on MTV" is old enough to drive, vote, and die for it's country.

Most of Gen X doesn't have TV, no millenials have TV, and Gen Z doesn't know what TV is. My kid literally asked my gramps why he didn't have an adblocker and how to skip the ads on his satellite.

TV is taking it's last dying breaths. Long live the interwebs.

You cast the first hand accounts being streamed from the scene onto a TV from your phone with a single click. Again, without exaggeration, my dad was talking about watching the news once and I was like, "Oh, right, that show that reads select articles from the internet out loud to you. The articles you read yourself 8 hours ago."

This is just false, but I get you’re exaggerating for effect.

TVs are going strong. It’s the content and delivery systems that are changing.

This is a valid point

Nobody in my generation watches TV. We have the internet.

I use the internet more than TV myself. I like OAN online. So that is a factor. But is that why ratings have dropped in the last 3 years? Is that when TV became outdated? I also wonder why Fox News ratings are up and way past CNN.

It seems that there is some other factor involved. Even this last week they took another dive.

The biggest problem as I see it is the consolidation of the various media outlets. There was yet another acquisition this week. I understand the revenue issue but this is not healthy for the nation as a whole.

Because the old dumb fucks that still watch are watching Fox

Same thing as when Trump was elected.

Common Sense took over.

It's super not exaggerated. When I say "TV' that might be a redneckism. I mean "cable and satellite providers are being replaced with streaming services" which is an economic reality.

In my dialect "TV" and "A TV" are two different things. "TV" is a television service provider, for example, Disk Network. "A TV" is the piece of electronic equipment. Yes, people still buy actual televisions, but the only demographic that reliably buys "TV" is over 65.

And because of that, because Millenials are the PARENTS of Gen Z, they have lived in a world without TV. The young ones don't know what it is. They had a traditional TV service on that kid's react show and they didn't know what it was. My kid didn't know what it was. That's not an exaggeration, that's a dying medium. But they know how to stream from the phone to the bigger screen of a TV set.

So yes, the shows that appeal more to the demographic that still watches TV are going to have higher ratings. Because ratings and views are two different things. Once you count the streaming services that statistic she's talking about goes away depending on the show. Fox News dominated basic cable, but those shitty fingerpuppet shows on youtube that take ten seconds to make get more views in an hour than the entire fox network does in a day. That's just how it is now.

If a content service needs an algorithm instead of a team of network exects- it's getting more views. It's getting so many it is literally beyond the realm of human understanding and must be handled by a robot.

There medium is dying. My generation is killing it, like diamonds and print media and paper towels and all that other shit nobody needs. Enjoy it while it lasts and then get your grandkids to come over and set a chromecast up on your ancient TV.

Old = Dumb and young = wise?

Because the old dumb fucks that still watch are watching Fox

So let me see if I am tracking your logic. In your universe the older a person becomes the LESS wisdom they have. Thus younger people are the wise ones because they have less experience?

Some of these dumb fuck old people that you are talking about used to be jack ass college kids smoking dope and marching in any protest march they could find. Then they bumped into the real world and found out how things really are and suddenly some things on Fox News made sense.

Try taking those eye filters off and take a peek at reality. You will be amazed.

Seriously. Does anyone under 60 watch the nightly news anymore?

34% of people under 65 might be willing to pay for it if you give them a 'slim bundle' but idk how many of them would actually watch it.

I have a brother who works for the local news up here and this is a major, major problem. The industry is dying. People are losing their jobs. Local news is basically being kept afloat right now by government grants for public television and I hate that but nobody told his dumb ass to major in theater and minor in journalism anymore than they told my dumb ass to major in studio art the first go round.

You know how some people say, "My mamma didn't raise no fools?"

My mamma's like... 2 out of 3. 2/3 fools.

He actually worked the vice presidential debate that came to Ky in the last election and he was real proud of it so I said, "Both your viewers must be thrilled" and he gut punched me. :D

I don't get it. Why are ratings dropping so sharply for fake news outlets?

What do you consider "Fake news?" Is it news that presents facts that make your dystopian world view look less than ideal, or that challenges your own myopic views?

Perhaps "Fake news" ratings are dropping because your dreams of an ultra nationalist, totalitarian state are coming true, and Western-style democracy and the whole idea of liberty truly is dying. I know you will be happy with that. The rest of us, who are accustomed to a free and just society will not.

Inevitably totalitarian societies will be overthrown, as people will grow tired of their government stepping all over them, and will take action. Remember that while you have your day in the sun. The millennial generation still embraces truth, justice and liberty, even if the boomers, and those acting on behalf of foreign powers who seek to influence our society in nefarious ways (e.g. YOU) try to take these things from them. You can drive the truth underground but you cannot destroy it.

You think I want goverment control of everything?

You think that my dream is an ultra-nationalistic, totalitarian state? Wow! If you have read anything I have posted you should know that I HATE anything to do with totalitarian state rule. I think ALL of the news outlets are fake just like all of the politicians are fake. The last think I would ever want to live under is a totalitarian state. I cherish life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So did you just misunderstand me or do you work for CNN?

The Savage Manse has been 100% streaming content for years. All the TVs are served by a Ruko thingy and I have Netflix, Hulu and Sling. That's more content than a single man like me could watch in a lifetime.

I don't look at those things on my phone though. Cell phones are Satan's own creation and in four years mine is going in the trash.

As we get closer to the general, there will probably be a resurgence in ratings.
This is a pattern that I have been noticing for several election cycles now.
Conservatives are dedicated consumers of news across many platforms
Progressives tend to tune the news out until they think it matters.
