What makes you leave feedback?

my favorite was the one I got about something being so utterly unbelievable that it knocked them right out of the story...and it was about a piece that I pulled right out of memory and is completely and totally true.

If I really like a story, I'll leave feedback. If the story's good but the mechanics woeful (punctuation, spelling etc), I'll politely suggest getting an editor, because I hate seeing a good story spoiled that way. I always vote, and I've used all the numbers I don't read much here now.

I really need to go looking for bad stuff so I can get the "I could write something better than that" thing happening - anything to kick my muse out of her slumber (gee, I hope she's only asleep )

I hardly ever vote, and I'm not entirely sure I ever left a comment. One time I one-bombed a story that desrerved it, unfortunately it was probably swept away.

It's totally unreasonable for you to expect votes and feedback when you aren't willing to give them yourself, or are just too lazy to make the effort.

As far as I recall (and I have a lousy memory) I've only ever sent one e-mail and never left a PC. The one e-mail was of the totally awestruck variety and I spent some time promoting the story here in the AH.

That probably pinpoints the time when I realised that the AH, as a body, isn't properly appreciative of good writing. (wouldn't know shit from sugar)

I rarely vote because less than four doesn't interest me. I don't read many stories before I hit the back arrow. (I've also been known to throw bought books across the room)

So, would it be a good idea to separate reads into 'last page' and 'back clicks'? (a positive cilck for one page stories)

I love feedback, it makes me smile.

Pretty much my thinking. If it surprises me somehow in style or hotness.

I will sometimes leave a comment on a story that I liked. However, I mainly use email feedback that, way I can tell them what I did/didn't like about their story. As I know if it was me, I would like feedback. I do however draw the line when it comes to being rude, I wont accept feedback like that nor send any like that. TTFN

Honestly, I don't leave comments because if I can't think of anything original to say I don't say anything.

I don't vote because I can't place a numerical value on most stories. I have voted more times than I have commented though (which admittedly is still low, but not that low).

Agreed - I only leave feedback in this way. If I do not make it to the end? I should leave feedback, but do not - usually. It is a failing on my part.

I leave feedback only if I am so stunned that I can't not leave feedback. It's not that I'm unappreciative of all the other excellent dirty stories - how could I not be, when you authors are entertaining me for free? It's not entirely that I'm lazy, either, although that's a factor. I'm too proud to leave a simple, "Great story!" and too insecure to risk writing feedback that's unoriginal.

I also don't score stories unless I can award an honest 5. I used to think awarding a 4 was an appropriate way to express my appreciation for an above-average story. Then I started hanging around in the AH and learned that anything lower than 5 borders on insult, according to the unwritten Authors Code of Honor. By awarding a 4 where it's merited, I'm not congratulating someone for good work the way I once believed; I'm dragging the story's average farther from the longed-for perfect 5 and closer to the dreaded 4, which seems to be misinterpreted as a sympathetic pat on the back and "Nice try. Keep practicing."

My readers' motto is, "First, do no harm."

I used to give feed back on a random basis or not at all, but I felt bad, as shereads says, they are entertaining us for free.

So I started keeping notes, and then it kinda snowballed.

I now keep my own thread the Dragon's Den.

I try to keep my comments Honest and Constructive and I try to respect wht the work means to the author, I hope some folks find them helpfull. I also add comments on each story which are usually an "edited highlitghts" version of my "review", and I also leave the author a PM.

I never leave "Anonymous" feedback. I stand by my opinions, and I see no reason to hide behind anonymity.

I have done but only rarely - I tend to hit the back button and not vote never mind comment on stories or poems I dont like - is that really bad?
