uhm, there is no scientific theory I'm aware of that describes me. I think of myself as a balance between order and chaos, pulled and compelled by each equally. My exterior is one of passivity and equanimity, but there's a seething cauldron of rage and pain just beneath the surface, just that thin veneer of civility over a raving beast. The reason I like and stuck with my High School nickname. It's kind of held together by surface tension though, so I guess that's the closest. I'm a bubble.

Systems Theory: the transdisciplinary study of the abstract organization of phenomena, independent of their substance, type, or spatial or temporal scale of existence. It investigates both the principles common to all complex entities, and the (usually mathematical) models which can be used to describe them.

That is a techincal explanation yes, but I like to refer to it as the Big Picture, or another way to explain it would be to say that the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. Indeed, that is one way to describe how Bertalanffy came to form the theory.

General Systems Theory explains how systems work, open and closed, input, output, feedback loops, etc. - all systems, physical, biological, political, economic, social, climate, etc.

Chaos Theory is all the rage now, with many people thinking it is new, but it is just an offshoot/subset of General Systems Theory used to describe "chaotic" systems. General Systems Theory has been around a while longer and has a wider scope.

I don't claim to be an expert on it, or even to be knowledgeable - I glimpse it (and most other things) through the glass dimly. I became interested in it when I became involved in the software engineering methodology call "patterns".

The reason I would use that as the theory that explains me is not just that it literally does (I am a system after all), but because I think of myself as rather eclectic in my opinions and interests, with the sum of the parts being greater than the whole.
