What She Needs (Closed)

She smiled at the images he brought to mind. Actually, Grimes would probably be more suited- physically- to sitting behind a desk all day. But that was about as far as his capabilities went. He didn't have the people skills required to be a Captain.

"Boxed, sir?" she asked with raised eyebrows. She knew he had told her to call him Luke when they were alone, but it was a hard habit to break. "No, I have never done that before... why? Do you?"

She was suddenly curious. She could imagine him before a bag, or another person, sparring, sweat dripping from his well toned body- and she could tell he was in shape even though he was always in uniform when she saw him.

She imagined him boxing would be a sight to behold.

"Yeap, I do box. It's a great way to vent. You should try it. I see you carry a lot of anger. I do too. Boxing is one of my ways to cope. I-uh also instruct boxing if you'd ever, you know, need any pointers."

The insight and the invitation were both out of the bag.

"Frankly, I think you'd be great. We have some kick ass female boxers down at the club as well. Just to tell you you wouldn't be a sheep among wolves."

The boxing club was part of the outreach program, cops instructing local toughs to box and get a modicum of self discipline. It also helped break down the barrier of enmity. A limited success so far, but still worth a shot.

Corrine considered this for a moment and then smiled at Luke. "You know that could be a lot of fun. I go to the gym a lot anyway, so I could try it. One condition though" she said. "I want you as an instructor. Nobody else. When I do something, I want the best I can get, and I'm pretty sure thats probably you."

The compliment was veiled but it was there.

She couldn't help but imagine her and him in a gym together late at night, him teaching her hands-on techniques of boxing... she put on the brakes.

This would help her career as well. If she knew how to spar like that, she could use it on the streets if need be. It could definitely be worth it.

She nodded.

"I'm in. When can we start?"

She was an eager student and ready to start as soon as possible.

The best, huh?

He quickly hid his spreading grin. He could almost see her before him, braided hair, sweatpants not being able to hide her fabulous body, a singlet showing off lean and toned muscles, sweat dripping as she sparred with a look of utter concentration on her pretty face as he- WHOAH!

He'd had a few tgoughts about her that were decidedly unprofessional. But as he'd got to know her he'd become fond of this little firecracker. Not to mention she was a knockout beauty with a body so well trained you could probably bounce balls off of it. Yet she was feminine and alluring and- STOP IT!

He looked at her again. "Tonight?"

Her face practically lit up. Her excitement showed blatantly as he asked if she wanted to begin that evening. She quickly nodded.

"Sure where do I need to go?" She was looking forward to it. New challenges like this always excited her. She was a very competitive person and boxing seemed like a great outlet for her frustrations and anger.

He had been right about that. She did have pent up anger, and if she could spend it on a productive activity like boxing, maybe she wouldnt be so inclined to erupt at Frank Grimes like she had been.

Their food arrived then and conversation halted for a few minutes while they began to eat. In between mouthfuls, she glanced up at Luke.

"So are you married?" she asked casually, trying her hardest to make the question sound innocent and not as if she were prying for details... although she WAS curious if some lucky woman had scooped up the man before her.

Not wanting to bore her with details about an ex and his daughter, he simply said "No. What about you?"

The breakup had been one of the classic "you care more about your job than you do about us" divorces. Two years ago he'd divorced what he thought was the woman of his life. His daughter was one year old then. They'd stayed on friendly if distant terms, for their daughter's sake if nothing else. She'd found a new man in a nice and boring office job. Hamilton had met him once or twice and considered him a nice enough fellow, if a little bland.

He found that he very much wanted to find out if she was seeing someone as well.

He wasn't very open about his personal life, she thought and then shrugged it off. Maybe she would eventually find out more if they grew closer through the boxing program. She wouldn't push. Instead she decided to tell him about herself.

"Me either" she said. "Never found that one guy that you're suppose to know is "the one".

Their meals were almost over and the waitress brought the check to them. Corrine stretched a bit. "I guess we need to head back to the precinct huh? I know my boss is a bear of a man if I don't get paperwork done".

She was teasing, her green eyes sparkling delightedly as she poked fun at her captain. It was nice to have a relationship like that with her boss. She felt more at ease in her job and more willing to please him.

"Today was cool... Except the whole kid with a gun part". She frowned. "Does that happen often through there?"

"Your boss sounds like a strict but fair man", his voice mockingly gruff.

"As for kids with guns, it happens often enough that we're a bit wary of kids the first time we meet them. To join the gangs they are to be tested. They might kill someone, rob, rape, steal... We try to get to the kids before the gangs do. Sometimes we succeed, other times, well..."

He drifted off. She knew the rest.

"So, see ya later tonight at the boxing club?"

"I'm looking forward to it" she said with a grin. She opted to finish her paperwork in the morning and headed straight home. Once there she showered- which was silly since she was going to work out- and dressed in a pair of grey sweats that were a bit baggy but still clung to her lean hips and showed off her round ass. A clingy hot pink under armour tank top, and black nike shox completed the outfit.

She had just enough time to catch the evening news - several murders were reported - before she had to leave to meet Luke. She followed his directions and arrived five minutes early. She parked her SUV and headed inside to wait for him but when she walked in she saw he was already there... And man did he look good in workout gear.

Hamilton always liked to be in the gym before his students. He'd worked up a fine layer of sweat already, punching a bag into submission. He wore black sweatpants, a pair of white Adidas boxer shoes and a fading gray "Rangers" t-shirt with the sleeves cut off

As he heard the door open and close, he turned. His breath caught as he saw her. She looked cute with that clingy pink top. She had a tight body, muscled, lean and sexy. And her smile was having an effect on him again. He stood transfixed, only catching himself as she gave him a quizzical look.

"Oh, um, yeah, you should start warming up by skipping rope. Good training for the footwork. That's vitally important." He tossed her a skipping rope and watched her start warming up, telling her to go as fast as she could.

While she warmed up, he watched her. Damn. No wiggle on her body that shouldn't be there.

Corrine noticed Luke staring at her when she first got there but he seemed to shake it off so she put it from her mind and began to jump rope like he suggested. Jumping rope was a good cardio workout and she found she was really glad she had worn a sports bra.

She couldn't help but notice how hot Hamilton looked- and she didn't mean sweaty either. His shirt clung to his body where he sweated and she could see the beautifully sculpted muscles layering his skin. She scolded herself for wanting to run her fingers over those muscles.

It took a while for her but eventually her breath grew deeper, and her body developed just the lightest sheen of sweat. Setting the rope aside she walked over to the Captain.

"I think I'm ready sir" she said softly.

After watching her warm up for a few minutes he collected some bandages to wrap her hands in to protect them, and he found a pair of gloves that would suit her. He also collected some target pads for her to train with.

When she was warmed up she went over to him. As she neared he noticed how there was still a hint of perfume, now mixed with her fresh sweat. He got lost in the smells for a few seconds. She told him she was ready.

"Give me your hands" he said. He started wrapping her hands with the bandages. "These are here to protect your skin, especially on the knuckles. You'll be fighting with gloves as well, so your hands should be fine when you're done. If you punch someone in real life, prepare to have the skin on your knuckles break." As he talked he stopped wrapping her hand and started stroking the skin of her hand. He checked himself and with much bluster and blushing he finished wrapping her hands.

His hands on hers sent shock waves of pleasure through her body. That a touch that innocent could cause her to feel so much made her blush. Then she noticed that he wasn't merely wrapping her hands. He was actually caressing her.

Her heart began to race and she became super aware of him. Especially the musky scent of his sweat- not at all unpleasant. It also held a hint of cologne or aftershave. He smelled delicious.

Her eyes darted to his in surprise and she saw him apparently realize what he was doing and quickly go back to wrapping.

Interesting, she thought to herself.

When he finally had her hands wrapped she flexed her fingers as much as possible to get used to the feel of it. She then got the gloves put on and smiled at him.

"K, what next?" She asked, her pretty face radiant with excitement.

He looked at her, smiling as he saw the eagerness in her face. She lit up with a smile that melted away another part of his armor against her charms.

"F-first we look at your footwork. To be an efficient boxer you need to either be built like a brick shithouse or quick on your feet. You don't fit the shithouse-bill, so I need to see how well you can move around me."

He led her to the ring and let her through the ropes and then followed her into the ring. He had the training pads with him and he held them up explaining the rules: "I'm going to try to smack you with these, your job is to try avoiding being hit. If and when you dodge I want you to counterattack. Remember to always move and to switch up your stance as we go. Predictability in a fight is God's way of weeding out the weak."

"Ready-GO!"

Corrine took a deep breath as she listened to the captains instructions. Always move. Switch stances. If he strikes, dodge it and strike back. She could do that. She lifted her hands and focused on his face. Both of them had a look of serious concentration on their faces.

And then he struck out. If there was one thing she was, it was nimble. She bounced to the left, but forgot to strike back. Instead he came at her again, this time she dodge and swing out with her left hand. Her hit glanced off of the mat.

Really getting into it they moved around the ring, taking and receiving hits. It was a very physical task and she found sweat beading up on her sleek body. At one point the captain instructed her to think of boxing as a dance, which helped her a lot.

She could feel them working around the ring like a pair of lovers waltzing to music- only they were hitting each other. This made her laugh and she held up a hand to the captain to make him stop.

She was getting breathless anyway.

She glanced up at him. "You must be in like the best shape possible... You're not even out of breath" she said incredulously.

"Oh, I've been physically active most of my life. Besides, you did the hardest work." He really liked it when she was complimenting him. He watched her get her breath back, which took all of one minute.

"You're in pretty good shape yourself there, Corrine. Now, as for the basics of punching..."

He went on about the proper way to employ her fists in a fight. He talked about the dangers of overextending her punches and showed her how to make a proper fist to minimize damage to her wrist and knuckles. All the while, he used a hands-on approach to correct her when necessary. After he'd taught her the basics and seen her successfully give the training pads some serious blows he deemed her ready for the punching bag.

"This is where I go to work on my anger issues, Corrine. And this is where I want you to vent all your anger and frustration."

He went to hold the bag and did his best impersonation of Grimes.

"I *wheese* bet this broad can't hit for shit!"

*BAM!*

"Women shouldn't get in the way of REAL policeMEN!"
*BAM!*

And on and on it went as he egged her on. He was anxious to see if she'd threshold on her anger or not. It'd do her a world of good. He egged her on mercilessly.

At first she tried to tune Luke out, to ignore the jibes he was casting her direction, but then she realized that he WANTED her to react to them. He wanted her to take her frustrations out here, and if that meant imagining the bag was Grimes then that would be perfectly fine.

She began to throw punches at the bag, some perfectly executed, some not so great, but for her first time she felt as if she were doing pretty well. She was landing some hard blows, and she wasn't hurting herself in the process.

"If you were a MAN, you would be able to hit a whole lot harder than this!" Luke was saying.

Corrine landed a square blow to the bag which sent it back towards him.

In her mind every derogatory she had ever received began to show. Luke's voice faded away. Then the bag in front of her seemingly morphed into her mother's old partner. The cowardly bastard who had let her mom go into that alley alone. The one who had let her mother get shot.

Her jabs got harder, her breathing grew ragged, and she didnt even notice it but tears filled her eyes. Blow after blow landed upon the bag until one was so hard it knocked back and hit Luke in the chest.

Her breath hitched in her throat and she spun on her heel and walked away, forcing deep breaths into her lungs, squeezing her eyes shut to will away the tears that threatened to spill over. Her hands trembled violently and she pulled the gloves off and dropped them to the ground before squatting down on her heels and resting her elbows on her knees, her head between her hands.

She was spent. She'd reached the limit.

Luke slowly walked over to her and sat down next to her. He put his arm around her and pulled her towards him. She was a comrade in arms who needed consolation, yet he was also aware of a very upset and attractive woman by his side. He tried to push that last thought out of his mind.

"Wow. That was really something. You feel any better at all? You have no idea how many hours I've spent in the gym, working out my own frustrations and crying afterwards. It's a tough job in a tough world. We can't afford to slip up in the line of our work. And yet the frustrations from work and everyday life keeps jabbing at us. If we don't vent, we'll slip sooner or later. This was a very good first, Corrine."

Without thinking he leaned down and kissed her on top of her head.

Corrine felt Luke come over and sit beside her. She hated to have him see her like this. She hated for ANYONE to see her like this, but him especially for some reason. He was such a tough person, such a force in the work field and also here in the gym that showing weakness in front of him just seemed wrong.

His arm came around her and she automatically leaned into the embrace, cherishing the contact for that moment in time. He was right. She had to work out these frustrations or she would mess up at work. And she couldn't afford to do that.

He admitted to crying himself which also helped. Everyone had breakdowns. She needed to be reminded of that.

And then he kissed the top of her head. Her heart stuttered to a stop and then resumed a pace even faster than before. That was not something a boss, or boxing instructor would do...

She took a deep breath and then looked up at Luke, at his face. She didn't see her boss, or instructor. She saw a gorgeous, caring, gentle man, who was there when she needed someone.

"Thanks, Luke" she said softly as she leaned against him for a few more moments to regain her composure.

"Don't mention it."
He was at the same time very happy and a little upset she hadn't commented or acted on the kiss. He just sat there for the longest time, relishing the feel of her body against his. It was one of the few magic moments he'd shared with anyone lately, and he didn't want it to end. But the janitor would be around soon to lock up for the evening. He sighed.

"As much as I'd like to sit here with you Corrine, we have to hustle. The janitor will be here in 20 minutes to lock up for the evening. I know I need a shower, and I'm guessing with that impressive workout you just delivered you need one too? Come on ups-a-daisy!"

He rose, grabbed her hand and helped her up. Damn. She ended up so close to him he could almost... he stepped back.

Flustered again he said "Um, maybe we could grab something to eat as a post-exercise treat? I know I'm famished. You must be ravenous after the effort you just put in."

When he helped her stand she ended up with her upper body almost touching his. Flustered she took a step back. This was getting out of hand. He was her boss. She could not have these kind of feelings for him. She needed to step back and get control of herself.

"Right, a shower" she said with a small smile. "Yeah I am pretty hungry... sure that sounds great. I didn't bring anything fancy to dress in though... I'll be quick in the shower."

She grabbed her bag of clothes an cosmetics she had packed in case she showered there, and then headed to the shower room for ladies where she quickly undressed and stepped underneath of the hot spray.

It felt nice to wash away the sweat from the workout, and after she was done she applied lotion to her body and threw her hair up in a messy bun. She applied a quick coat of mascara and got dressed.

She had packed a pair of tight blue jeans, and a pale yellow lace tank top - much more girly than he had ever seen her in. She threw them on with a pair of white flipflops and darted back out to meet up with him again, smelling fresh and clean.

"Im ready" she said with a halfway shy smile.

Hamilton took a long cold shower, admonishing himself for getting too personal with one of his officers. But he'd gotten to know her during a very long and eventful day and he had to admit she handled herself very well. Both as an officer and a person. She was growing on him, no doubt about that.

His shower finished, he applied some deodorant and cologne then got into his faded jeans, black t-shirt and black leather jacket. He'd only have to wait a couple of minutes before she came out of the shower room.

Damn it, was there something this woman didn't look good in?
Her smile didn't make it any easier for him.

He smiled. "Great! There's a little restaurant right around the corner. Middle Eastern food. You ever try it?"

The sight of her boss in a leather jacket, jeans and a black tee shirt were enough to be her undoing. Good lord he was sexy...

"Uh, I've never had it before but I'm pretty flexible so I'm sure I'd love it" she said trying to get herself together still. He was not making it easy for her to forget her attraction to him. Probably going to eat with him wasn't a good idea either... But she wanted to and she would do it anyway.

They walked outside together and she hesitated, unsure if she was supposed to ride with him or by herself.

"Did you want me to meet you there?" She asked. " I could follow you... Or we could even take my SUV if you wanted? L

She really wasn't sure why was appropriate in this instance... Probably the whole situation wasn't appropriate... But yet here they were...

She seemed as flustered as he was. Was that a good or a bad thing? He couldn't say. He decided to make light of the situation.

"Something wrong with your feet, Corrine? It's just around the corner." He nudged her playfully. "Don't tell me you're too worn out for work tomorrow!"

Walking over there, he again was uncomfortably aware of how close she was to him and how much they'd got to know each other that day. What if there was a mutual attraction? He tried to hide his thoughts by engaging in small talk about work, boxing, any safe subject he could think of.

They arrived at the restaurant after a few minutes. "Amir's fine Middle Eastern Cuisine". Amir had plastered a big sign in his windows after some unpleasantness with some local bigots: "We support our valiant US troops!"
Hamilton had sent the prowlers around to ensure that peace and quiet was maintained after a nasty episode that almost ended in Amir being severely beaten. Amir had been grateful, embarassingly so.

As they entered, the ever vigilant ever working Amir greeted them. "Hamilton! So nice to see you again! And such a lovely lady you bring!" A knowing smile spread across his face. "I'll fix you a private table!" He yelled out some orders in arabic, and over their protestations they were guided to a secluded table with dimmed lighting and a candle. The table was arranged so that they didn't sit directly opposite each other, but slightly sideways and still able to talk face to face.

When they were left alone, Hamilton laughed, a little shy. "Amir's a good guy, but a bit eager at times." He feared and relished the consequences if Amir was right.

Corrine was slightly flustered when the Arabic man seated them at a private, dark table with a candle as mood lighting. She felt a blush creeping into her cheeks and avoided his gaze for a few moments.

"So... uh, he seems to know you well. I'm assuming you come here a lot? Whats the best food they have? I've never eaten much middle eastern food..."

He gave her a few suggestions and they placed their orders, after the waiter had given them a complimentary bottle of wine. It felt incredibly like an unplanned date. She was really confused as to what she should do in the situation, so finally she decided to be upfront about it.

"Luke, this doesn't feel like a casual meal between two coworkers- or an officer and her superior... does it?" she asked directly. She really wasn't one to pussyfoot around a subject, normally choosing to cut directly to the chase.
