What song defines you?

Billy Bragg To Have & To Have Not

I'm not willing to leave it to one song to be my epitaph, but I always feel like this speaks about my education and my class background

Up in the morning and out to school
Mother says there’ll be no work next year
Qualifications once the golden rule
Are now just pieces of paper

Just because you’re better than me
Doesn’t mean I’m lazy
Just because you’re going forwards
Doesn’t mean I’m going backwards

If you look the part you’ll get the job
In last year’s trousers and your old school shoes
The truth is son, it’s a buyer’s market
They can afford to pick and choose

Just because you’re better than me
Doesn’t mean I’m lazy
Just because I dress like this
Doesn’t mean I’m a communist

The factories are closing and the army’s full -
I don’t know what I’m going to do
But I’ve come to see in the land of the free
There’s only a future for the chosen few

Just because you’re better than me
Doesn’t mean I’m lazy
Just because you’re going forwards
Doesn’t mean I’m going backwards

At twenty one you’re on top of the scrapheap
At sixteen you were top of the class
All they taught you at school
Was how to be a good worker
The system has failed you, don’t fail yourself

Just because you’re better than me
Doesn’t mean I’m lazy
Just because you’re going forwards
Doesn’t mean I’m going backwards

Sorry Rebecca, the song Bitch encompasses all that a woman is and could be, this is what I meant. In the song she talks about all the roles she is at any given time, that is why I ask.

Yes we woman are many faceted creatures......smiles

This has been a song I've loved for years and years, in relation to BDSM and otherwise. Hearing this song still gives me chills given the connections to various things (and people) in my past that it has for me. Some great. Some bad. Some very bad.

Fugazi
"Promises"

Words
Words and expressions
All these confessions
Of where we stand
How I see you
And you see me
Dedications of symmetry
Together we will be
forever.
Promises are shit
We speak the way we breathe
Present air will have to do
Rearrange and see it through
Stupid fucking words
They tangle us in our desires
Free me from this give and take
Free me from this great debate
There were no truer words than when spoken
Let that stand as it should
There was nothing left when broken
We grab anything when we fall
Promises are shit
We speak the way we breathe
Present air will have to do
Rearrange and see us through
Stupid fucking words
They tangle us in our desires
Free me from this give and take
Free me from this great debate
You will do what you do
I will do what I do
We will do what we do
Rearrange and see it through
Go where you think you want to go
Do everything you were sent here for
Fire at will if you hear that call
Touch your hand to the wall at night
Promises.
Words.

My song...

Ok, well this has to do with my past, but it still emcompasses a lot of feelings that I am dealing with still.

Haunted, by Evanescence...

"Haunted"

Long lost words whisper slowly to me
Still can't find what keeps me here
When all this time I've been so hollow inside
I know you're still there

Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Fearing you loving you
I won't let you pull me down

Hunting you I can smell you - alive
Your heart pounding in my head

Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Saving me, raping me, watching me

Watching me, wanting me
I can feel you pull me down
Fearing you... loving you
I won't let you pull me down

This question has been driving me nuts all day. Here is what mine is after long consideration and many other songs in contention...

Don't Fence Me In

Oh, give me land, lots of land, under starry skies above,
Don’t fence me in.
Let me ride through that wide open country that I love:
Don’t fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin’ breeze,
An' listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees.
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don’t fence me in.

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle,
Underneath the western skies.
On my cayuse, let me wander over yonder,
Till I see the mountains rise.

I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences,
Gaze at the moon till I lose my senses,
Can't look at hobbles an' I can’t stand fences:
Don’t fence me in.

Don’t you fence me in.

my song

Well I have a really diverse tast in music but to say one defines me is difficult but the one I think is best for me is In The Mood by Glenn Miller.

Here is the song that best describes me..

Dream Theater
Wait for Sleep

Standing by the window,
Eyes upon the moon,
Hoping that memories,
Will leave the spirit soon.

She shuts the doors and lights and lays her body on the bed,
Her images and words are running deep,
She has to much pride to pull the sheets above her head,
So quietly she lays and waits for sleep.

She stairs at the ceiling and tries not to think.
And pictures the chains she's been trying to link again,
But the feelings are gone and water can't cover her memories.
And ashes can't answer her pain,
Lord give me the power to take a breath from a breeze,
And the life from a cold metal frame.

In with the ashes,
Or up with the smoke from the fire,
With wings up in heaven,
Here lieing in bed,
Palm of his hand to my head,
Now and forever curled,
In my heart and the heart of the world.

And thusly why us guys can't even fathom the depths of most woman

Speak for yourself, Leeroy. I figured it out.

Ice cream, sex, Nora Roberts novles, topless men with long hair, cats, shoes, hair cuts, and chocolate.

I don't have the exact quote but in Two Weeks Notice the chess scene. There are like 4 lines that explain life and woman really well. To paraphrase. Chess has rule and pieces move in known patterns. Woman don't have rules and don't have known patterns.

Evans Blue - Cold

This is tough, there are pieces of songs that feel like a theme song. The song I can hear and it reminds me of the song sang inside... half of this song is twisted okay all of it... but ... some of it applies to me. I think I need a whole sound track.
That way I could sum up my whole life without saying a word.

Hello, I'm your martyr. Will you be my gangster?
Can you feel my trigger hand moving further down your back.
When you hide, hide inside that body
but just remember that when I touch you
the more you shake, the more you give away

Cold, but I'm still here. Blind, cause I'm so blind.
We're far from comfortable this time
Cold, now we're so cold, mine, and your not mine, say never
we're far from obvious this time

Wait, another minute here, time will kill us after all
now can you feel its second hand wrapped around your neck
so fall into my eyes, and fall into my lies
but don't you forget the more you turn away, the more I want you to stay

cold, but I'm still here, blind, ‘cause I'm so blind, say never
we're far from comfortable this time
cold, now we're so cold, mine, and you're not mine, say never
we’re far from obvious this time

you’re so endearing, you’re so beautiful,
well I don’t look like they do, and I don’t love like they do
but I don’t hate like they do
am I ever on your mind?

cold, but I'm still here, blind, ‘cause I'm so blind, say never
we're far from comfortable this time
cold, now we're so cold, mine, and you're not mine, say never
we’re far from obvious this time

cold, you broke me from the very first night
I'd love you ‘til the day that I die
we're far too comfortable this time
cold, I loved you from the very first night
you broke me ‘til the day that I die
I'm far too obvious this time

OMG - I don't even know the song, but I'm sure it defines me, too.

For Gracie, "Where Is My Mind" as performed by The Pixies (At least I'm pretty sure that's what the poster of the title meant...) ((good song too, one of my favorites!))

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
But there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind [3x]

Way out in the water
See it swimmin'

I was swimmin' in the Carribean
Animals were hiding behind the rocks
Except the little fish
But they told me, he swears
Tryin' to talk to me to me to me

Where is my mind [3x]

Way out in the water
See it swimmin' ?

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
If there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind [3x]

Ooooh
With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Ooooh
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Ooooh
Ooooh

Also, in keeping with the thread, and doing as I should have done originally, the lyrics to my chosen song are as follows...

Blind Guardian - "When Sorrow Sang"

So let me out of it
Out of the cold
To bring back light and hope for all
And so if I could get you in
Just for a little while
Into the songs of sorrow
You might understand

Where am I now
Beyond the dawn
(Where) hope's turned to dust
At all

Immortal love's
Fooled by the hands of doom
That love means death
I realized too soon

chorus:
Caught in the afterlife
I've gone too far
When sorrow sang softly and sweet
The air was filled with tears
Full of sadness and grief
When sorrow sang softly and sweet

I feel like screaming
But I can't breath in
Shall I wane right now?
I will not leave this
World of living
Till she has said
Goodbye

Out in the cold
I still wait for her call
And her last kiss
It shall be release

I can't forget her
Her face will not leave
From the depths of my soul
I long for her

So I heard all about it
Her voice's so clear
She's woven both themes in there
Moved me to tears...
The world shall hear this sad song
Song of sorrow song of grief
Can't change the way of his kind
Can't change the way of her kind

-chorus-

OMG

A man has almost got it figured out!!!

Add in:
topless men with gorgeous arm muscles showing.
cookies

Allow for regional preferences for example
Nora Roberts writing as J D Robb
Dogs instead of cats
long hair instead of short hair

Plus extra additions of both choc and sex

and he has it figured out!!!
