Thanks I appreciate hearing that.
One of the biggest blocks we have as humans is avoiding trying something new just because we have no experience with it, or have these unfounded fears that we lack some prerequisite to get started in something.I had to google BJJ.
It looks and sounds interesting. But being flexible as a fridge I think I stick to the things I'm already good at.
For me it’s body insecurities and having strangers touch me. And with BJJ it’s not just touching it’s…touching….One of the biggest blocks we have as humans is avoiding trying something new just because we have no experience with it, or have these unfounded fears that we lack some prerequisite to get started in something.
At some point, you had never driven a car before, yet you got behind the wheel to learn despite never having raced at the Indy 500, right?
There's a YouTube channel called Chewjitsu. He's a black belt and runs a gym and has a lot of helpful advice for beginners regarding their mindset and fears.
I can see that being a huge challenge. I don't have any experience to speak from though, so I can't lend any advice on that, other than maybe find a gym that has a few women and roll with them. Talk with the instructor about it. The community is very welcoming, or at least it should be, so if the instructor is a dick about it, it's the wrong gym anyway. For me it’s body insecurities and having strangers touch me. We have two places so I was going to go look at both. I miss CrossFit and I just need to get out and meet new people. Plus a friend said it would be good for me to “know how to choke a m’fer out” lolI can see that being a huge challenge. I wrestled from 9th to 12th grade so it wasn't too much of a stretch to try and get into bjj. Unfortunately the pandemic started 3 months later and I haven't been able to get back to it due to a shift in work schedule.
I'm trying to remember how I got over the "wrestling is gay" stigma that permeated the jr high halls (my district jr high was 7th-9th) but I just remember it didn't matter after a week or two. Once I got on the mat and realized that it was fun, all that went away.
I saw this and had to tell you that you're not a dumbass.I am very much a dumbass with certain things but at least I know it and can work to fix it!
You’re sweet but I know my faults. I have most recently in the last 6 months handled important things/people poorly. I have been a dumbass. I have also been handled poorly and they are also a dumbass…it happens.I saw this and had to tell you that you're not a dumbass.![]()
I found the CrossFit and bjj communities were pretty much on par with each other as far as being supportive and accepting. I hope you find a good fit.We have two places so I was going to go look at both. I miss CrossFit and I just need to get out and meet new people. You need to stay positive. You sound like a nice girlI’m trying to stay positive. The divorce is good, it’s needed, it’s freedom. I definitely have more good than bad!
And can I say I’m having a bit of a fan girl moment lol I can’t believe you noticed me![]()
I’d like to get to know youYou need to stay positive. You sound like a nice girl
For me it's not the trying that is the block. It is the fact that I am stiff as a corpse. I've tried both wrestling (Greek Romans style) and Judo. Failed at both. One of the biggest blocks we have as humans is avoiding trying something new just because we have no experience with it, or have these unfounded fears that we lack some prerequisite to get started in something.

Learning the right ways to process it means you'll never be back at square 1 though. You might take 4 steps back, but you've taken 6 forward.
Looks so good. Virtual housewarming gift sentFinally unpacked my books. I’m sure I’ll move stuff around and rearrange here and there. But it’s good to have some empty boxes. Next is replacing the curtains for windows without a view…

Thank you!Looks so good. Virtual housewarming gift sent![]()
Hugs with lots of good vibes for new place. And remember a window with a view is an excuse to watch life go by rather than get out and be a participant! Finally unpacked my books. I have no idea what's a proper house warming gift in your country. But I'd bring this to celebrate!
