Hello,

I'm thinking about investing in a webcam or digital camera. I'm wondering what ones you would recomend...

Thanks,

Mer

i have a logitech quickcam 3000. i have had it for a couple years and i really like it. it is pretty inexpensive and takes good shots and is clear when used as a webcam

I need an inexpensive webcam for my mac. My old logitech pc one does not work. I have a sony digicam but it doesn't work as a webcam sadly.

I have a FujiFilm camera and although it wasn't the most expensive, it wasn't the cheapest. I've had it for a couple of years (I think) and it works beautifully. I've also taken videos with it, which come out perfectly.

If I were you, I'd check consumer sites, to find out which ones are rated highly. Epinions.com and other similar sites might be helpful for you to determine the appropriate camera for your needs.

I bought both of my granddaughters Vivicam3350 Vivitar cameras at Wal-mart for Christmas -- $24 each.

It's an "instamatic" level digicam about the size of a pack of cigarettes or a pack of cards. With the USB cable plugged in, it's also a TWAIN compliant webcam.

I was impressed at how well it worked as a webcam and how simple it was to set up.

The ViviCam 3350 only takes VGA/E-mail quality pictures (640x480), doesn't have a built in flash, or a preview screen, but for two preteens to carry for snapshots to use in their annual personalized calendars for friends and family the price was the big selling point -- the webcam capbilities it has are only incidental.

Most people buy much more camera than they need -- the price on this model makes making a mistake (or losing the camera, as preteens are likely to do,) relatively painless.

Kodak dc3800 for pics and web cam i use the ps2's Eyetoy using drivers i found for windows

I use a Veo cam which sucks! The pictures are always too dark.

I have a POS webcam floating around here somewhere, dunno even wehre the drivers are...oh well.

I have a Canon Powershot A60 for my digital. It takes 2 megapixel shots, has a 3x optical zoom, and plenty of modes plus the great canon software for stitching photos to make incredible panoramics.

If I was to buy a new one I'd go with the canon Powershot A70 or higher depending on how much I wanted to spend just to get a larger megapixel.

I have had no problems printing out 8x10s that are of great quality with my 2 megapixel.

Next one I buy will be a Digital SLR with 8-10ish Megapixels but that's a few years off.

All our pictures we have posted were taken with a HP315 (hewlit-pacard)

It is 2 megapixel, 2 and 2.5 digital zoom.......ZOOM SUCKS!

It We have learned how to take some good shots with it....but it does take some getting use too. I would highly recommend it.....its very user friendly......and out of date.....so good luck find one....LOL

By next tues or wednesday, we shoul get our new one.........Olympus E-20 SLR, 5 megapixal........Im so excited to play with it.

Thanks! I need to buy one in the near future. And with all the pics y'all post on here, I was sure to get good advice!

In regards to digital cameras, I have to agree with Ljbonobo. The Canon A75/85/95 series offers great quality at a reasonable price. There are some slightly cheaper 3/4/5MP cameras out there, but none of those match the quality of the Canon. If you are on a budget, walmart.com has the A75 for about $175. Don't forget extra memory and rechargable batteries, too!

As far as web cams go, I've used lower end Creative and Logitech models (i.e. under $30) and have been happy with the results for video conferencing, but most web cams are not suitable for taking high quality still photos.

Hope that helps!

I've had my logitech quickcam that came w/ my comp. forever...okay, well, 5 yrs. or so now. It's great at shots, web cam meetings and videos! For me, it's all really clear and I can pick what kind of format I want to save in and such.

I hope to get a web cam myself, but on a tight budget...I don't know know what to get;)

The Vivicam 3350 I mentioned earlier is only $24 and it's far from the only camera that is that cheap. There are many "kid cameras" that are very cheap and function as a webcam as well as a snapshot camera. The Vivicam 3350 is notable because it takes "full-sized" (640x480) pictures instead of the quarter-sized (320x240) pictures that most "kid cameras" are limited to.

I've seen some very capable dedicated webcams for as little as $15 and very few that are more than $50.

my logitech is mostly $60 but I have seen 'em around for $30. IMO, it's great. :rose:
