What would you do?

I could, as long as I could find financial security and have better luck finding a job than I've had so far. What about suggestions for things I could do from home (at least for now), i.e. babysitting, editing...what sorts of things work?

Money's a bitch, eh? Mow yards? How about house sitting - any need in your area? Dog walking? Be a super dooper pooper scooper - don't laugh, in the right neighborhood you can make money! :) Pizza delivery? Paper route? A job in some kind of store (book, video, ice cream - which I'm sure you've tried)? I don't know if you live in a big or small town so not sure what's typical. Assess your strengths. We often underestimate our skills. Teachers for example - they teach, but they are also managers, accountants, consultants, healers and more.

I'm going to bed now, but I'll check in tomorrow. You can do this Trini. :rose:

Thanks so much for everything so far. I'm looking up Section 8 housing as we speak. I'm saving numbers and addresses to my phone. Hopefully I can find something. Luckily I still have tax returns from 2006 and 2005 coming to me in the next 6 to 8 weeks.

What else did we talk about? Wic and Social Services, right?

:rose::rose::rose:

There will be no clicking or clockwork for a while, no matter where I am. But I'd be happiest staying in this area.:rose::rose:

Heheheeh --- well that really does depend on perspective... but I will keep my Doc Mom Hat off :)

Depending on your area there are any number of resources available from Planned Parenthood, WIC, ChildrenFirst... christ... its been a few years since I tapped the system for help that way... I ws newly seperated with toddlers at the time... Wic - Food Stamps, Energy Aid, Subsidied Housing all that - I was making less than 9 k a year so I more than qualified...ANd just coming off the disabled list from paralysis due to spinal injury...
It was a LOT, and I do mean A LOT of running around, jumping through hoops, cutting through red tape and getting people to write letters on my behalf...
I got lucky, and I really do believe it was the right place and thing becuase I got everything I needed including a three bedroom house within two months of applying.

Now my situation was different than yours...I know...

I wish you all the luck - and hopefully you are where its relatively warm year round so energy bills wont smear ya like grease on a tattered napkin....

I'm in Maryland...so it's not warm year round, but space heaters can always do the trick in a pinch. And anyway, we're coming up on warmer weather, so it's less of a concern. Right now I have energy assistance thank God.

Since I'm pregnant, I'm hoping there will be some help for me, at least with housing. :rose:

It sounds like things worked out for you. I'm going to send up a prayer of recommendation to God on my behalf....

Alright, so I'm not in bed yet. I grew up in NOVA and if you live in MD you better know what that means. :) In an earlier post I couldn't tell if you'd be happier in Chicago or where you are. My own thought is it may not matter in the short term. If you have more support and friends in MD, then maybe stay there a year or so, then move. Okay, bedtime!

I have no idea what NOVA is. I thought you were talking about the show for a second. Northern VA? Lol....

Guess What... We're neighbors... I just moved from NOVA lol to MD....

There are SEVERAL programs and Shelters... When I got here it was in the aftermath of Katrina (of which cost me fucking everything, including my blessed children).....

PM me... DOC MOM is here now.... LOLOLOLOL

Hey Trinique,

Keep your chin up and make sure that you are taking care of yourself. I know that when I get stressed out the first thing to go is eating properly.

I would def stay where you have friends. I have a really hard time with parents that are non supportive  I feel like sending out a psycic 'whack' to the back of their heads, sigh, prob wouldn't do any good.

I was on WIC when my kids were little and it helped out a lot. It was nice to have that help with the grocery bill.

I must say that I really admire you for standing up for yourself and going it alone. As hard as it is you are making choices that will be healthier for your health and your babies. Keep looking, there are a lot of programs out there to help women in your position. Keep us posted on how things are going. It sounds like you have been getting good advice from people on the board. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm glad to see you've had such alot of good advice and it seems like you've got the startings of a plan at least :)

I will hold you in my prayers and if theres anything practically I can do from over here in the UK, give me a hollar.

*hugs*

absolutely no useful advice I can offer, having never been pregnant, lived in the States or dealt with difficult parents. I'm really only here to wish you luck, for what that's worth...

oh- I just had an idea - do you have an equivalent of the Child Support Agency over there? An organisation that makes sure you get any maintenance payments due to you by the father... might be helpful if you're going to head down that route...

Egads... thats right... anymore they will try to force you to name the father of your child... you can always claim a night of drunken debauchery - but they really scowl when you say that .... Some states make you sign an agreement to repay anything they might help you with... in other words LOANING you the funds to get you on your feet again.

I am still looking for that list - should be rolling around soon!

Baby girl

for what it's worth..I would feel loads better if you were closer to me. I know that you feel sort of indebted or some such weirdness but in the end, I love and adore you and the soon to be bratling too much to want you too far away. (As you well know) You and I have talked about the issues with your mum and dad and I know that the added stress of dealing with them would be more than you could safely handle, especially with the way your early pregnancy is going.

In the end, I want what's best for my family...and as always that includes you and our newest bundle of joy. You know if you need me, you have me. It seems that you are doing fine, finding answers on your own and I am proud of you. Don't forget though, that if you need to know things you can't find out on your own for MD...and our area of it, I can at least help you look around for the answers. I love you...

Daddi to be.

There are no words. In your heart, I think you know what my ultimate decision will be in the end...I'm not going anywhere.
