What's Cooking?

I heard a news piece on a restaurant in Zurich where the guests are led blindfolded to the tables and the food is served in perfect darkness so you can't see what you're eating. The waitstaff wear little bells or something so they don't bump into each other. (I forget how they find their tables. Ropes or something.)

The reporter described eating something he could hardly describe--solid yet soft and creamy but not greasy, with a velvety feel and subtle flavor. He couldn't identify it and thought it was some kind of pudding or pastry.

Turned out to be the yolk from a hard-boiled egg.

I've heard of that place also, and although it seemed interesting on television, I don't think I'd enjoy myself if I actually went there. Seems creepy. I prefer to look at what I eat.

Would you? We could make eel shiskabobs!
I couldn't watch the octopus show...or the crabs....if it's something live...I have to change the channel......I want my food already dead when I make it.

Then I shouldn't recommend the movie "Oldboy," where this guy eats a live squid and the tentacles wave frantically while they're still hanging out of the guy's mouth.

That's just sooo wrong.
I've learned to walk through Chinatown and not look down into the large buckets.

I'll wrestle some live gigantic eel and whack it's head off for you.

So close to my wank fantasy, except for "eel". And "gigantic".

I heard somewhere that the eating of the live eel was supposed to symbolize the main character's need to feel alive by eating a living creature, but I just couldn't help but squirm in the theater seat and shout "Fuck!" every few seconds. And that scene was like 5 minutes long!

Well, what do I know about art house movies? Oldboy won at Cannes 2003, so... :p

arthouse movies are so deep that no one wants to admit they don't get them...so they award them.

All kinds of stuff going on here today:

Clam Chowder
Fruit Cake (the real kind, none of those plastic citron thingies)
Sugar Cookies
Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Today was one of those rare times when I didn't have to cook. Instead we went out for Mexican food! Quesadillias, anyone? ;)

Last night we ate at The Outback, great meal. Finished the evening with some drinks at home.

Right now, I'm eating toasted Cinnamon and Raisin English Muffins, with butter.

The others aren't ready to eat. Me? I'm awake. I need food. :D

You just reminded me how much I miss cinnamon rolls. *bites lip* ;)

Tortellini with Prosciutto and a classic basil & tomato sauce made from scratch. That's what's on the menu for today, but I won't start for another hour or so. ;)

Let's see it's just after 5 am and it's 7 degrees out, sounds like oatmeal with blueberries, yogurt, a pear and half a banana... again.

Bloody banquet tonight so a very light lunch. I think we have some kind of food thing happening everyday now through the New Year!
No wonder we all get fat during the holidays. All anyone does is eat!

I can't believe that there was once a time where that was all I looked forward to during the holidays, the eating. I feel disgusted at the memory of how I was then.

Ahead of the curve again.

Some TV show just talked about how cheese boards are becoming trendy. We've been doing cheese boards for a few years now. After dinner, 3-4 good cheeses, fruit and nuts and port. It's the best part of a god dinner

Pears and roquefort.
