What's your ancestry?

Pretty typical Canadian. Both sides trace back to Britain. Scots on my Dad's side, English on my mom's.

I've heard there's a little French Hugenout in there and rumours that one of my ancestors was Henry Morgan, not the guy on the rum bottle, the one who managed to catch The Silver Train at Panama and was made Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica for it.

Any other Bohunks?

On my Dad's side, we came to the US from a village named Binbrook, in Lincolnshire, in 1848. Haven't gotten past there yet. My Dad remembers his (great?) Grandfather, who fought in the Civil War, for the winning side. :p

His mother was of Danish ancestry, I think.

My Mom's father was first or second generation American, but ancestors were Bohemian. :D I love that.

Her mother was of German Catholic descent, with Slavic overtones.

I don't know if anyone has traced as far back to Europe for anyone except my Dad's side.

Egads,
My mothers family is originaly from Poland, near Danzig. Very proud military type family. They moved to central Germany after the first world war.

My father is a first generation American, his parents came here from of all places, northern Poland. (This might account for my eyes being light sensitive, and my system not liking anything but meat huh? Call me a carnivore.)

Me, I always say my genetic background is human, except for that touch of the undead back a generation or two.

A baby polar bear asks, "Dad, am I a real polar bear?"

Papa polar bear says, "Of course you're a real polar bear. I'm a real polar bear and your mom is a real polar bear. My parents are real polar bears and your mom's parents are real polar bears. And their parents were real polar bears as well. Why would you ask such a question?"

"Because," the baby polar stuttered, "I'm f-f-f-fucking f-f-f-freezing!"

Sorry, it just seemed to fit here. :)

I've got a nice mix in me, or what I think is a nice mix...heh heh.;)

1/4 Scotch
1/4 Irish
1/4 German
and, the twist (for me)
1/4 Dane.

Lets see...if I'm seeing this all right now...I could be a cheap drunken stubborn sexually liberated guy...

or not.

On my dads side I am Irish, and choctaw indian, (great grandmother). On my moms dads side I'm Irish from County Cork around the time of the great famine. On my moms mothers side I have a relative from Amsterdam Holland that came to the U.S. in 1637 (368 Years), he owned the first house built in New York state, and probably the oldest frame house in America. It was built prior to 1652. All in all I have Irish, Indian, Dutch, German, English, and God only knows what else but my hearts all Irish.

I'm enjoying this thread because my family just went through what is to me a most amusing sequence trying to truely understand our geneology. For years I thought my father's side was German. Just before he died my Dad told me we were Welsh, though I thought he was pulling my leg.

A year ago I received an email from a long-lost cousin saying he was taking up the search of our geneology done by our Uncle. He had worked for about 20 years, searching graveyards, county records, church histories; building the family history. He had followed the line back to the mid-1700's and all agreed that we were Swiss. My cousin asked me to do some research for him (going through grave yards again) while he finalized the boat that the original progenitor of the family came over on, and worked his way back to the original home village in Switzerland.

My cousin built an incredibily elaborate website that traces our family back for generations along with a whole bunch of related families and alternate spellings. It's amazing! (Don't ask, I won't give you the name of the website. That would be telling.)

A few months later my cousin was contacted by a person with our same last name who wanted to know if they were relatives (we have a very unusual spelling to our name so most people who spell it that way are in fact relatives). In order to establiish the relationship, both men sent tissue samples out for DNA analysis.

Two results came back: 1) yes, the man and my cousin were related.

2) The family is Welsh.

My Uncle and cousin wasted over 20 years of research chasing the family tree in the wrong direction.

Hey, I thought it was funny!

I have Irish blood from my Dad's side and English from my Mum's. Not sure about details but my great- great-grandmother from my Mum's side was French. Both sides of my family have been settled in Australia for ages. So, I'm an Aussie as well.

Mom's family is from Italy via NYC. I am third and fourth generation on that side.

Dad is half French (maternal) and half Spanish (paternal)

This is a great thread. What an exotic, cosmopolitan lot we are.

Me - I'm a mongrel. Born in Glasgow. Ma Dad's a west-coast soap dodger and ma Mums frae Edinbra.

Ma granma wiz born a bastard and her hubby was actually from an Irish tinker family. Ma Da's line comes from Islay.

So I guess you could say I'm Irish/Norse(the Islay connection - the first Donald that gave rise to my great clan was actually a viking)/Scots.

To be serious(ish) for a minute. I'm proud to be so closely realted to the great apes. It has been suggested that we should drop the "look at me aren't we soo cool" species name of Homo sapiens sapiens and accept our true heritage and name ourselves Pans narratans (the story telling chimp).
