Sorry if you're reading this for the second time..........
Yesterday one of my former students was killed and that gave me the blues. He was driving a white car. He pulls into a gas station. A man in a red pickup leaves his keys in his truck while he pays for his gas. The passenger in Mario's car jumps out and gets in the pickup and drives off. Mario sees him and follows. The owner of the pickup comes out and shoots at the white car, hitting my student who's driving. He drives in the direction of the hospital and crashes when he dies. The guy with the gun has been arrested and charged with murder, since Mario didn't steal his car. He didn't have a gun permit. A sensless tragedy. Mario could have been trying to get the guy to return the truck, who knows.
Mario was a typical 8 year old. He had more good days than bad. What he had was a smile that could melt ice. He laughed easily and it took a lot to make him mad. Most of the trouble he got into was because he was standing up for someone else. Someone he thought was being wronged. As thin as he was, he was a champion for the underdog.
