The roo's been on the tail in one form or another for years.The issue of how to get there from L.A. was resolved a long time ago, and quite well I think.(When did they start painting a kangaroo on the tail?)

The point was that there are jet aircraft to get to Australia; I just happened to find a photo of a 747. Here is a Quantas A-330-200. The 747 model itself finally went out of production. So has the biggest Airbus plan, the A-380.

Airbus does have some British assembly done, but it's basically descended from previous European companies that merged into one. The same thing happened in the United States, where Boeing is the last manufacturer of large commercial airliners.
