When Darkness Falls

"What will you have Ami?"

"I'll have the same."

Not many people called her that but she liked the way that he said Ami. While he was getting the drinks she looked over at her sister, who was looking confused at the moment. Amelia looked at her sister then took a step back and nodded her head in Dahmnall's direction to indicate the reason she was back. She could see Liz laugh and give a goofy thumbs up sign in her direction. He handed her the drink and she smiled at him and said,

"So what's a guy like you doing..."

The bar was busy and getting crowded. A group of men pushed up to the bar and in the process pushed Amelia against Dahmnall. He smelled like leather and cigarettes, not such a bad combination.

"Sorry. Maybe we should move somewhere else before we get crushed by the stampede of frat boys."

"I guess that all depends on where we're going," Zeke had for the last few minutes furrowed his brow at their destination. They were going toward the industrial disctrict. During the day this place thrived with industry, steel and wood and unrefined products getting completed for sale on the market.

At night, it was pretty much dead. The only thing out here was the docks over to their right, and further up North a few nightclubs.

"Come on, Alaric. What's up? We ever going to find something... or are we just running in circles tonight?"

Dahmnall

"Aye perhaps we should" he put some money down on the bar "Oi mike, yes please mate." he said putting two fingers in the air, Mike brought over two pints, "Drinks are on the dragon, Dahmmy my lad." "Only when I'm alone." Dahmnall said laughing, "Amelia Callahan, meet my cousin Michael O'Brian" Michael smiled and said "Good evening Ms. Callahan, I hope I find you in the grace and favor of the lord." "Dinner at grandda's sunday, be there Mikey." Dahmnall took the two pints of guiness in one of his big hands, "Liquor before beer you're in the clear," he said laughing "So where shall we sit Ami?"

Dria had returned to the dance floor when she re-entered the Dragon. She was still annoyed and the press of bodies combined with the physical stimulation of dancing quickly soothed her frazzled nerves and she was lost in the beat of the music. She could feel it thumping through her like the fresh blood she's ingested tonight and delighted in it.

Until a fresh scent reached her nose.

Hunter!!!

What the hell was a hunter doing in her bar? On the verge of panic she started looking around quickly until she found the origin of the scent. He was at the bar with the cop woman and chatting with the bartender Mike. It seemed like they all knew each other and that made Dria relax. He hadn't come looking for her which meant she still had time to slip out before he even knew she was there.

Moving sinuously through the crowd on the floor she stayed as far away from the Hunter as she could while making her way out the door. She only relaxed she was outside and could draw in the clean night air.

Giving the bouncer a wave and a wink she strolled off into the night lamenting the Fates quirky sense of humor. She'd asked for something interesting damnit, not something potentially lethal.

Dahmnall

Suddenly Dahmnall felt a familiar aura, "Vampire" He hissed under his breath, he looked wildly for the auras trail, and found it leading out. I'll let it go. For now, I am going to enjoy a drink with the lass I've been wanting since i was a teenager.

"My sister is in the corner over there, we're celebrating her birthday."

Amelia grabbed Dahmnall's hand and started to lead him over to the tables when an obviously drunk man stepped in front of her. She tried to step around him but he continued to get in her way.

Excuse me please.

The drunk man smerked at her and in a slurred voice said,

"Sorry, officer. Maybe you should arrest me... do you frisk me or do I frisk you?

Dahmnall

"Easy lad, the lady is with me." Dahmnall said putting the beers down, and turning to face him. "You've had too much to drink friend, you should just call a cab and go home."

The drunken lout's friends ran up and herded him away with an apology. She liked that Dahmnall had handled the drunk well and didn't automatically get into a fight. She was begining to wonder if returning to the bar tonight had been such a good idea but she didn't want to pass up the chance to get know him better. Amelia continued to lead Dahmnall to a table near Liz and sat down. Now that she finally got him somewhere where they could talk, she was trying to think of something to say to him. Taking a sip of her drink she turned to Dahmnall and asked,

"I've been curious for awhile, what exactly do you do for a living?"

Dahmnall

"I'm a venture capitalist," he said, "stock in construction, overseas currency, a few other endeavours. But apparently," he said, changing the subject. "It is Elizabeths birthday, MIKE!!" he yelled holding up his credit card and pointing to the table. "I'm buying your drinks."

"Well, I guess the market must be getting more aggressive these days."

Dahmnall looked confused so Amelia pulled her chair closer to his and reached out and patted his trench coat where the gun was hidden then continued,

"It throws off your walk a little and I'm not just a detective because I look good in a uniform. I'm trained to be able to tell if someone is armed and I've got no idea what else you have got hidden under that coat."

Dahmnall

"O aye, it has indeed." Dahmnall said, cursing himself for stupidity. "Well lassies, I must away." he said getting up, and moving to the bar to drop off his credit card to Mike "Get it to me sunday at mass or dinner." "Leaving so soon?" Mike asked "I have never known you to leave a bar before last call." "She knows," dahmnall said "She knows I came armed." He said. "I must leave now." Dahmnall left the bar.

"Damn it" Amelia swore. What did she think was going to happen? What explanation was she expecting he would have for being armed. She reached under her coat and unclipped her gun so it would be ready if she needed it. She started to chase him out the door and started to go over what she actually knew about him. What did she know about him? They went to the same church, his family is nice. He just lied to her and he is heavily armed, she just wasn't sure with what besides the gun.

She kept her distance until they left the bar so that if he did cause problems there would be less people to get in the way. He was heading towards his motorcycle and she ran up to him and yelled,

"Dahmnall, stop. I can't let you go."

Dahmnall

Dahmnall heard Detective Callahan's voice and for reasons he could not understand nor rationalize he stopped. "What do you want Amelia?" he asked.

"What do you want Amelia?" he asked.

What do I want, Amelia thought. I want him not to be armed. I want to be sitting in the bar flirting with this guy and having a drink. The cop in me wants to arrest and hand cuff him. I may want to do that too but... because he's armed I'm standing out here wondering if I'm going to have to shoot him.
I guess the cop wins out.

I want you to slowly put the gun down.

Dahmnall

"As you wish." Dahmnall pulled out his trusted slugthrower, pulled out the clip and opened the chamber, pulling out the slug. He lowered the gun and slugs and put his hands up. He pulled out his sword and lowered it to the ground, dropped his knives, and put down his axe. "That is a show of trust," he explained "Know that if i desired to i could have killed you 10 different ways." he continued "I now ask that you trust me."

"What the hell do you need a sword for?"

Amelia was shocked at the arsonal that he just put on the ground. No wonder she couldn't tell what he was hiding. They weren't exactly trained to spot people carrying swords.

"I have trusted you far enough that I haven't pulled my gun yet. What are you doing with all of this? Tell me what is going on."

rengadeirishman said:
"Grab my weapons and lets go somewhere safe, you can pick the spot."

o.o.c. lmao I'm going to have to use that one as a pick up line. Sorry... back to the story.

i.c. Amelia stepped forward and while watching him picked up the gun and realized that she probably couldn't carry it all.

"No wonder you were walking funny. I'll take the knives, axe, and the bullets. You can take the gun and the sword. But you will walk in front of me to my car. When we get there you will put the gun and sword in the trunk and sit in the back. If you do all of that without being difficult we will go get coffee and you will explain yourself."

Dahmnall

Dahmnall took his gun and sword, putting the clip and formerly chambered slug in his pockets. He held them both out from his body and walked to her car putting his sword and gun in the trunk along with the clip and slug from his pocket. he then got in the back seat of her car. "Where to?" he asked

After he got into her car, she dumped the rest of his weapons in the trunk. Amelia slid into the drivers seat and started the car. She adjusted her mirror so she could keep an eye on him and looked at the clock. It was after 2:00.

"I don't think there are any places open for coffee at this time of night."

Amelia shut her car off and turned in her seat so she could look at him.

"My car is safe enough; start talking."

Dahmnall

"There is a war, old as time, between vampires and slayers." Dahmnall said. "I know its hard to grasp for outsiders, but it the truth." he said. "I am even more then a slayer. I am a hunter. My very DNA has adapted to fight vampires. I can sense their aura, thats why I came to the purple dragon. Vampires like clubs, it makes it easy to feed." he continued, lighting a cigarette. "See these," he said pointing at two angry red bite marks on his skin. "I have been bitten, but hunters like me are difficult to turn. The bite gave me the vampires nocturnal powers, strength, agilty, senses. like this." he got out of the car. and went to the next one. with a quick jerk he picked it up and tossed it into the air and caught it, laying it down perfectly. He got back in the car. "I fight vampires. I kill vampires, and I kill their mortal thugs."

When she saw the bite marks on his neck she went pale. They looked just like the ones on the murder victims in her case. Everything he was saying was crazy. She wanted to scream at him and tried to think of a rational explaination. He's crazy. He's on drugs. When he got out and picked up the car he scared her. He got back into the car but she wasn't listening to him anymore or thinking. She scrambled out of the car and started running.

Dahmnall

He ran after her. "AMELIA!!! He chased her down, he was much faster and got close on her easy then he felt it, that familiar aura, and he felt the impact. He rolled with the impact of the vampire jumping on him. He rolled and punched the vampire off him. The vampire lunged again and dahmnall flipped him. Dahmnall reached for his sword, only to realize he forgot it in Amelia's car, the vampire hissed "DIE HUNTER!!!!" the vampire attacked and bit dahmnall on the shoulder "FAITH AND BEGORRAH!!!!!!!!" dahmnall roared in pain, he broke the vampires neck and tossed it to the ground, the vampires teeth torw a huge bloody chunk our of his shoulder "JAYSUS CHRIST!!!" he picked up a piece of wood and drove it through the vampires torso, and it exploded into dust. Dahmnall fell to one knee, groaning in pain. "You still think im lying?

Dria

What else is going to happen tonight Dria wondered as she made her way down the quiet street. Since her favorite club was now off limits for the night she had decided to just walk. She wasn't ready to return home and it was such a nice night...why not enjoy it.

The warm air of the evening caressed her skin making her smile as she sashayed down the sidewalk. Passing a park she decided to cut through it and was rewarded by a couple of punks thinking she would be easy pickings. A broken arm and dislocated shoulder later they'd changed their minds as she stretched out on a picnic table content for the moment to stare up at the night sky.

It had been such a strange night. First Cecillia, than the cop, than the Hunter...she really must have pissed someone off to have had all that thrown at her in one night. That or someone up there had a very twisted sense of humor.

She often suspected the later.

It was clear from this evening that she was going to have to leave town tomorrow. There were just too many variable here now. Not like when she'd first gotten here. When she'd first arrived there'd been a few problems - drug dealers - in the clubs she'd staked out as her own but no real players. No vampires and no slayers or hunters. They'd come though...they always came and she moved on.

She doubted any of the slayers would actually recognize her. She wasn't exactly on their most wanted lists since she never left bodies to be found...that would require killing her prey which she didn't do. The hunters though...they were a problem. They could spot her for what she was just by looking at her. She wasn't quite sure how really, maybe some sixth sense, or a unique scent....she didn't know what but they knew.

She'd gotten lucky with the one at the bar tonight. He'd obviously been more interested in the cop than her or she would've had much bigger problems than the punks she'd sent scurrying to the hospital.

"No more surprises tonight o.k.? No bad ones anyway," she murmured while still staring up at the sky as if imploring whatever power might listen to leave her be for a bit.

Amelia turned and drew her gun when she heard someone yell, die hunter. She watched Dahmnall break the attacker's neck then stake him. When the attacker turned into dust she stopped.

"Shit" She walked back towards Dahmnall and took off her coat.

"You still think I'm lying?"

She pressed her coat against his shoulder and said,

"I've got a first aid kit back at my car."
