When Darkness Falls

"Of course" he said "Will, a quick car bomb over here if you please." he said to the bartender. He realized that maybe by telling her these truths, she wouldn't want him anymore. Anymore? he thought, she probably doesnt even want me now, let alone anymore. Catherine brought over the Irish car bomb, "and an Irish Lullaby as well." he said "Way ahead of you Dahmmy lad." she said producing the lullaby as well. "Thanks love," he said. He picked up the beer and the shooter as well and quickly dropped the shot and drank the whole pint, he then did the same with the other drink. "Truth is truth." he said quietly to himself.

Amelia got to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. She was pale which was just making the bruising on her face stand up. She was starting to wish that she had taken the opportunity when she had the curtain rod and smacked that guy.

Would she be able to walk away from all of this? Could she pretend that none of this happened and that vampires didn't exist? What would be the cost of running away?

Catherine brought the food over and a fresh pint. Dahmnall accepted the pint graciously. He had grown up with Catherine Mary O'Brian and she could tell something was up with him. "That pint's on the house love." she said and walked away. "Thank you." he said with as much a smile as he could muster. He took a piece of sodabread and covered it with jelly. He took a bite and thought about His situation with Ami, and what it could all possibly entail.

Amelia

Amelia walked back out of the bathroom no more sure of what was going on than when she walked in. Amelia sat down at the table, smiled and said,

"You drink too much. What are you running from?

Dahmnall looked at her oddly. "What do you mean?" he asked taking a sip of his beer and lighting another cigarette. "I run from nothing."

Amelia looked at him seriously and said, "Just an observation and I may be way off on this but you seem to drink a lot and I'm wondering if you are running from something or trying to drown it."

"I see" Dahmnall said. "Yes it is true, perhaps i drink alot, but its because i like the bloody stuff." He said taking a long puff of his cigarette "I dont think theres enough liquor in the world to drown my pain." he said quietly, almost as if he was thinking out loud more then speaking.

Amelia

Amelia looked away into the fire and said, "You live a hard life."
Amelia turned back to Dahmnall and gave him a wink after saying, "Maybe we can find a better distraction for you."

Dahmnall chuckled, but found himself quite intrigued. "Perhaps lass, perhaps. How is your burger?" he asked, having already polished off his corned beef and chips, and was currently working on the remains of his colcannon and his bangers.

"It's fine." Amelia said and took a drink of water, then reached over and grabbed his hand. "I'm sorry about the third degree I gave you when I got back. It was a little blunt and a question that came out of no where."

Amelia

Amelia and Dahmnall continued talking until lunch was done. A few hours later Amelia found herself looking out of the window in the living room of Dahmnall's house. She was watching the sun go down and hoping that tonight would be less eventful then the last few nights had been.

Dahmnall was napping on the couch, he was exhausted from all the fighting of the last few days. However, even in sleep, his body could feel the coming of his power that was his signal that sunset had come. He immediately woke up and yawned. He could feel his muscles swelling with power and feel the might of the vampyre flowing through him. He got up from the coach and saw Ami looking out the window. He went over to her and put his arms around her waist, and kissed her cheek. "Good evening love." he said

Amelia smiled when Dahmnall put his arms around her waist and asked, "Did you have a nice nap? What do you have planned now?"

"Well first, I am going to order chinese. Then I am going to call my grandda and see what hes got so far. Then, I'll move from there. What do you want to do tonight?" he asked

Amelia looked back out the window after saying, "Nothing planned really and all of what you said sounded fine. Since I'm the guest, I'll let you order."

Amelia watched as the last bit of light disappeared and after remembering what Dahmnall said at lunch, remembered that she had a lot to think about.

"Be right back." he said. Dahmnall went off to the kitchen where the phone was and dialed Chow Mein Charlie's. "Yes i want a quart of sesame chicken, a quart of Kung Pao, quart of Wonton soup, 2 orders of fried dumplings, 6 egg rolls, and 2 orders of Crab Rangoon. Oh and plenty of those little crunchy things. Yea, thats the ticket. oh and chung throw a couple pairs of chopsticks in there too would ya? Thanks friend." Dahmnall then dialed his grandfathers house.

Again, Amelia's cell phone chimed, but the display noted a number she recognized as DeSoll's own cellphone, so at least she didn't completely dread answering it."

"Detective Callahan, are you alone? Completely alone?"

Amelial looked around, making sure that Dahmnall was in the other room and still busy with his order. "Yes." she said.

"Then don't lie to me Amelia." DeSoll's voice had a sharp edge to it. "Who the hell is this Dahmnall person and why are you with him?"

Amelia

"I think you are going to have to ask a little more specific questions than those, if you want the answers to what ever you are getting at. Because he is a friend of the family and he goes to the same church that I do. And I'm with him because I'm safe." Amelia said trying to keep calm. She heard Dahmnall talking on the phone and started to move up to her room.

"I'm not trying to be difficult." She said hoping that would keep DeSoll calm." Did you get any information back about the teeth?"

"Hello grandda, Just calling to see how things are going." Dahmnall said "They're calling a council of the archons?" Dahmnall was shocked, the council of archons meant something was important enough to bring in all the matriarchs and patriarchs of the slayer clans "When? Tommorow? In town? Jesus Mary and Joseph. Yes grandda I will watch my language, very sorry grandda. ill call again later." Dahmnall leaned back in the chair as he hung up. he reached for his pack of cigarettes and his lighter and went to the kitchen for a beer.

"Never mind about the teeth right now, we don't have time. YOU don't have time Amelia. Dhamnall came up as some sort of zellot vigillante or some such thing, heavy int guns and explosives. Your friend's wanted in any number of violent incidents, including the church fire and the shootout last night."

Amelia sighed and said, "Yes, I know. He saved me last night. He isn't the threat. The threat is the people he had to save me from."

"You KNOW?" DeSoll nearly shouted over the phone. "The man is a domestic terrorist with a tendancy towards extreme violence and a questionable grip on reality and you think he's protecting you? From what?"

"Come in Callahan. Come in and let's sort all this out before anyone else gets hurt. "

"If he's so dangerous and you know so much about him why haven't you had him picked up." Amelia snapped into the phone and glanced towards the kitchen where Dahmnall was heading. She did realize that she didn't know much about Dahmnall but knew that she trusted him. She finally decided that it might benefit them both if she went in to see how much the police actually had on him.

She remembered that Dahmnall's uncle warned her that the vampire's owned the police but how much danger could she be in if she went in. She worked there for years without being in danger from her co-workers. "Fine, I'll come in. What can you tell me about the teeth?"

There was a brief moment of silence on the other end of the phone, and when DeSoll spoke again, his voice was quieter and almost hissed with urgency.

"We do know Amelia....Are you in the house with him?"

There was another silence between them.

Aw, fuck.... DeSoll sighed. Amelia, I told you, you have no time. SWAT will be hitting the house in three minutes! Get out, get out now!
