sorry if this is the wrong place to put this......

Just curious when Miley Cyrus is 18 will anybody be doing a story on her?

No need to wait, just set your story next year when she will be reputed to be 18 years old.

Would Lit allow that?

not that i want miley Cyrus stories... seriously... another cardboard celebrity in a "fill in the blank" fantasy? what makes her sexually special? No...don't answer, she's under 18...

I do not think it would work until she is physically 18, the reason why she is a hot sex topic is because she probably already is having it, she has an older man and I think they are living together. Think about it, every guy over 18 is going oh yeah she would sleep with me and start thinking about it.

I think she is cute but still, it is rather perverted to be lusting after the star your own kids are chasing after to get an autograph.

Yes - think about it. My story A Hunting We Will Go is set in 2010 so the 18-y-o hero is now only just 18 but I posted it in 2003 when he was "really" 11. Clearly it is the age in the story when the action occurs that matters, not the chronological age now. Otherwise an author could set child porn involving a 15-y-o in 2006 and claim it is allowable because the child is now 19!

I had no idea who she was until I googled her birthdate. My involvement in this thread was merely clarification of the rules as I understand them, not an endorsement of the idea.

No Lit will NOT allow that. Lit will not post stories of real people and copyrighted characters (such as Hannah Montana) that are underaged. Lit will not post stories of real people and copyrighted characters that have been conveniently aged to fit within the rules.

Fictional characterso f original works are yours to do with as you will. So if you artificially age your own character to 18 to make it comply with the guidelines, then it's an 18 year old as far as the reader is concerned. A Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus fan reading a story will have a different conception of the person in the story in mind, the one that exists outside of the story. So Hannah will be perpetually underaged and Miley Cyrus will be underaged until she's actually an adult. It's what Charles Simic calls the simultaniety of experience. It works marvelously in creative writing.

Instead of Miley Cyrus, try Siley Myrus ... or Anna Fontana.

Pop idols are a dime a dozen.

If I don't have kids can I lust after her?

As for the story I don't think you can use real names, particularly those of public figures.

You can use their real name so long as you make sure there is the standard lawyer disclaimer that this story does not reflect the actual person blah blah blah. I can write up a story about how I am having lesbian sex with Palin, not that I am going to mind but I could if I really wanted.

Celebrities are public figures, they can be made fun of or placed into sexual situations so long as it is a gross representation of the person. I think a few of the more vocal would take offense, like Reverend Sharpton in a gay male story. Palin may take offense to her being in a lesbian story as well, she is religious.

So long as it is not delving into what the celebrity thinks you are in safe territory, if you do a story of say Spock and Kirk having homosexual sex together, Shatner probably would laugh, Nimoy might raise an eyebrow, the people behind Star Trek however will say hey take that down because both are straight in the story line and you have delved far off. Characters are harder because you have to keep it close to what they show in the movie, show or comic.

Good info, thanks.

And as to the OP, and the fantasy, there was plenty of Olson (-sen?) twin talk as I recall a few years ago. Countdown clocks to 18 on the internets, etc.

I bow to KM's wider experience as a part of the powers-that-be on this site.

Clearly there is a difference in respect of real persons.

As to fictional characters, I still do not understand why Lit worries about something which is NOT illegal in most countries, including the USA, while allowing the posting of plagiaristic copyright breaches which are clearly illegal in most countries, including the USA.

Plagiarism is harder to prove unless entire sections or the story is copied verbatim.

The celebrity section is going by the age of the person because it means they are not sued. We are not looked at as all pedophiles because someone did a future story of Miley Cyrus having lots and lots of sex when she is not actually legal yet.

I was only asking when she turns 18 will anybody be doing a story.. i dont mean right now..
