When the future intervenes (IC)

Max Godwin

Max watched the old hippie leave. “As usual the fucker sold everyone out.” Max thought. Max hated hippies. He remembered the bushy-headed hippie turds waving Soviet and Chinese flags wearing their trendy Che Guevara t-shirts and pushing their Marxist pamphlets during the gulf war.

He had been out at sea, protecting their right to protest, while they pee’d on returning vets. He remembered reading about some hippies that traveled to Iraq to protect the Iraqi people. They wanted to be human shields for the Iraqi people. Hussein used them to shield his military installations. Even those hippies started having second thoughts about their usefulness after that happened.

“They are just a bunch of stupid asses. Protesters, communists, Marxists, peace-loving hippie ASSHOLES. And now one of them sold out the planet. WHAT A FUCKER.” Max thought in disgust.

It never occurred to Max, he had sold out the earth too for his cancer treatment.

One of the future humans started to read Max the riot act, Max was tempted to yawn. He had been chewed out by far better people than this fuck wad. But he decided he just needed to watch and see how thing developed. So he remained quiet.

He did notice another robot female, also named ALSA. FUCKING-A she was hot. She had a great set of tits! But she also seemed important. He concluded there very little chance he’d be able to score with that babe. No, he just needed to have some fun with ALSA De Futuro, before they cut her up to make razor blades.

ALSA

“Yes Stephen” ALSA said as she opened the door for Frankenstein.

Erik led Walker through the corridors of the ship then down a lift to the scientist department. He gestured him to follow him inside his office and he walked over to his desk. Behind him were massive window looking down upon the various labs where scientists were busy carrying out various experiments and going over data. These windows although they looked like they were made of glass were made of a polymer ten times stronger than steel. On the outside was a thin layer of nanites that continually polished them and ate all contaminates that landed on them keeping them sparkling clean.

Erik's office had several experiments running in equipment specially designed by him that would be unrecognizable by Walker although he might recognize the substances being tested. He was trying to see if the chemicals they had developed in their century had any effect on 21st century pollution and what it was.

Erik booted up his holographic display and inputted the names of the scientists Walker had mentioned. Soon their heads floated above the desk along with locations on each of them. "Are these locations correct?" he asked. "if so I suggest we snd you down in a shuttle with two soldiers to collect what you need then take you to collect each scientist. We will send an Alsa unit with you as well as several doses of rejuvenation Serum. It will cure any and all diseases they are suffering up to old age. That should help you recruit them," he smiled.

"While you are gone I will put together my team and we should be ready to start when you get back."

Walker stuck to Erik's side as he's eager to do anything he could to help them. When the modern day Walker Fredrickson enters Eric's office, he's like a little boy in Disneyworld for the first time. You couldn't have removed the ear to ear grin on his face it with hammer and chisel if anyone wanted to. Who would wish to stop a look of wonder whether it be a grown man or a child. Recognizing the colors on the table of elements in Erik's technical marvels. His voice pulls the adult Walker back to the fore of his mind, holographic heads of his best friends suddenly appeared. The detail's amazing on the holograms of his friends.

"Yes, that would be four of the infamous six. Would it be possible add my noggin to your little holographic collection?" Pushing his cubs cap back on his head Walker looks like he's going to play Rec Department baseball compared to Erik's professional clothing. Listening to him say he's going on his first mission to retrieve his data with two Soldiers and a ALSA to go along with him to deliver the rejuvenating serum to four of his friends and bring all of them back.

Walker pauses to casually cross his arms. ''Can AlSA send what she see's back to you so you can see their reactions live? As I tell my friends a few doses of the rejuvenating serum is going to cure them. I'll say you really need their assistance in saving the planet and I'd appreciate it if they'd return with me to the Ark. That should help you recruit them" he smiled. "While you are gone I will put together my team and we should be ready to start when you get back. "That's music to my ears we'll be up and running so soon." Walker has to grin also. You know, all this good news and seeing in your office and this amazing equipment, I have no idea what it is or what it does. It reminds me of when my love of the sciences was first peaked in Mr. Erik's 7th grade science class back in 83.

Walker removes his fairly thick black rim glasses, covering his eyes from the pain straining them just to see. "Agh! Damned glaucoma, my eyes and head are killing me." The Futurist had already done so much for him he didn't want to ask for more. But loosing his sight and becoming helpless was frightening, what he assumed would be helplessness. He even had blind friends and knew for years how extremely capable they were, walker knew this but his fear remains as powerful. Removing his hands from his eyes put his thick black frame glasses back on "Can I confide in you and it stay between us?" Waiting a moment for Erik didn't say no Walker continues. "I have an over whelming fear of going blind. I know it is irrational but it's still difficult."

Erik looked at the man and then pulled open a drawer in his desk. He kept samples of the rejuvenation serum in it to use in his experiments and if all that was wrong with the man was his eyesight then the small dose that he had should be enough for that.

He loaded up a small air injection unit and silently gestured for Walker to hold his arm out. "I just want to check some vitals before I let you go," he told the man. Indeed he laid a small strip across the mans arm that brought up his heart rate, air saturation, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, blood type and various other things on the holographic display.

As he went to take it off he pressed the dispenser against his arm and injected Walker. The spray went directly through his skin into his blood stream with no need of a needle and was hardly felt.

Erik smiled. It would only take a minute or two to start to take effect and it would be a wonderful demonstration of what the drug could actually do.

After a few minutes of waiting, the air lock released and the door opened with a hiss. Zenith walked up to the General and saluted. "Rebellious threat in Alaska have been halted Sir." He said opening his palm to reveal the flat disk. "All was recorded just as you requested." He added.

Zenith turned to the stranger in the room, the distorted fellow was studying him just like he was him. He couldn't help but wonder what he was doing up on the ship...he had questions to ask but felt it best to hold it till he was certain of the man's alliance.

He turned gaze to ALSA, she had gaze on him too, probably reading him or something. He needed to act cool, be calm as normal till he has got his priorities right.

"Would this be all Commander?" He asked turning back to Stephen.

Stephen took the disk from Zenith and placed it into a receptacle, the data flowed into the mainframe and within seconds the broadcast started, showing Zenith's destruction of the elite Black Ops UN force. He turned from the carnage on screen and looked directly at Max, who in turn was looking at the screen.

"Zenith I have repeatedly asked you to call me Prime or Stephen. I actually have another assignment for you."

He could see Max turning a paler shade as he watched the screen.

"Do you require down time after your mission or are you ready to continue?"

Erik smiled. "It would take a minute or two to start it's effect and will be a wonderful demonstration of what the drug can actually do."

Walker saw no judgment in the smiling face of Erik, after admitting a fear he's ashamed of since the Glaucoma diagnosis. Removing his glasses with his left hand holding out his right arm as he asked him to. Erik was saying "I just want to check some vitals before I let you go." Listening as somethings placed across his arm Walker says. "I have extensive yearly physical exams by the best Dr. at San Francisco Med. I eat an organic diet, swim, bike, hike and workout 30 minutes daily. I Don't have anything our medicine as we know can detect ... "So far."

He can't see a thing that's going on but blurriness, but something was happening as Erik's now a blob. "Somethings happening, Erik my vision improves steadily!" Erik the blob's now Erik the man that's only somewhat blurry and in near 20 seconds Walker is beyond 20/20. Lifting the glasses in his left hand up to his eyes and has got to move them away quickly. He chuckles with a pleased grin looks around the room and back to Erik.

"I don't know if you are a hugger or not, but you're about to get one. Walker steps right up to him quickly and grabs Erik a very tight hug slapping him on the back. He figures Erik is nano enhanced, he could evade it if he wished too. "Thank you so much Erik. I don't really know what to say." Walker releases him from the tight embrace wipes a few tears from his eyes. "Anything you want Earthside? Whatever it is, I'll be glad to bring it back for you?"

"Zenith I have repeatedly asked you to call me Prime or Stephen. I actually have another assignment for you."

Zenith nodded. His eyes still on the outsider. He notice the man grow pale from just staring at the screen. A smirked when Max shut his eyes and turned face from the screen. He knew Max had just seen when he blew open a man's skull. Literally.

"Do you require down time after your mission or are you ready to continue?" Stephen asked.

Zenith turned gaze back to his commander.
"I'm good to go Sir... em Stephen." He was a marine in the third sector. Trained to be dogs and nothing more. Ruthless killing machines of the future. Not used to calling his commander anyother thing apart from commander.

Zenith took a quick glance at the screen. He had the leader of the UN on her knees, his blaster aimed at her head. And then Bam. He shot her. The screen went blank and Zenith turned attention back to his commander.

Inside his mind was racing, a normal human won't be able to make it out. But the Advanced Life Simulation and Aide by his side will. The video was missing two minutes run time. He had tweaked the end.

Stephen had kept his eyes diverted from the screen for a reason. He hated violence. ALSA knew this and somewhere in her AI it worked for her. That was why they made such a good team. But there were times that Stephen displayed a disturbing need for violence and usually that would be when he watched raw footage of violent acts... Only to be repulsed by human nature moments later.

He turned to face Zenith, "Mr Gold here proved that stating facts and given a stern warning doesn't really interest his inner human. He has information that we need and I am sure that he has a slight idea where a certain nuclear warhead might be located. Zenith I wish for you to interrogate Mr Gold. He has been nano advanced, so he can take a punch or two if needed. After extracting the information, I want you to drop Mr Gold planetside and then find and neutralize the warhead."

He turned to look at Max, who seemed quite upset, "Well Mr Gold, I do hope that you are feeling co-operative. Mr Frankenstein can get rather upset and you had witnessed him being calm."

He turned to ALSA, "ALSA, how many hours remaining on the withdrawal? Are we experiencing any resistance?"

Max Godwin was an asshole. He did not care about other people. As he watched the video provided by the man called Zenith, however, he saw how brutal and savage war can be. Max had been in the Navy. The weapons he had fired flew away from the ship to later impacted apartment buildings, or a villages or tanks in fiery blasts. He never saw the end result, the wounded, those who survived with the terrible burns, blindness, amputation and lifelong pain and trauma.

He had been in Iraq, and witnessed a roadside bomb hit. One soldier had survived and he had watched as the man was loaded on a helicopter. The soldier’s camouflage uniform dangled over the stretcher, ripped open by the medics who were treating him. Clumps of his skin had peeled away, and what was left was translucent skin. The man had screamed “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy” then ‘Put me to sleep, please put me to sleep.”’

Max found out later the soldier had died from his wounds. This was all part of war and as long as Max was not the one suffering he really did not care about any of it.

But when the Prime Stephen, the head future person, turned to him and said "Well Mr. Godwin, I do hope that you are feeling co-operative. Mr. Frankenstein can get rather upset and you just witnessed him being calm."

He had to say something. He needed to show that he cared about other people and try to use some of those bogus liberal arguments against war to save his own skin.

“You future people are savages!! YOU HAVE NO ETHICS OR MORALS!! YOU ARE NOT HUMAN ANYMORE!!" Max yelled. Then he continued in a lower volume. "Throughout the history of humankind there have been wars, but despite all the horrors, humans follow rules. Rules that must be followed, if you wish to remain human. There are weapons that should not be used, rules about prisoners, non-combatants and particularly how women and children should be treated.” Max paused.

“That UN commander was defenseless and HE” Max pointed at Zenith “Killed her in cold blood. She was your prisoner. Killing her was a WAR CRIME!!!” Max screamed

Max paused he could tell his ranting was not helping his cause. He calmed down and said softly “Look what is done is done. But you can start acting human now. We had a deal. I provide the information I promised. You need to let me go!”

There was silence in the room for a full 10 seconds. ALSA used this time to report to Stephen on his question.

“Stephen, the withdrawal is almost complete. 2 hours remaining. All countries are basically complying with the withdraw order. However, almost all countries in the world are developing plans to fight you. The most active countries are North Korea, Russia, China, the NATO block, and Iran. Also the UN is holding an emergency session to find alternative to fighting.” ALSA reported.

ALSA did not comment on Max Godwin outburst. She was programmed not to harm humans; however, she completely understood the logic of pruning a diseased bush. Some parts of the bush needed to be killed so the rest of the bush remained healthy. Humanity was doomed unless the diseased parts were killed. Stephen had to make difficult choices. He was trying to kill the smallest number of humans, to save mankind. ALSA understood it sucked, if you were one of those that needed to be killed.

Erik smiled at Walker as the man let him go. he was glad that he would no longer need his glasses and he would probably find that his joints and muscles would no longer feel as stiff or sore as they probably had. Any scars would also have disappeared from his body as well as any first stages of internal sufferings. In short no mater what he looked like on the outside he now had the internal body of a twenty year old male.

"That is indeed a generous offer sir. Perhaps in your travels you would be so kind as to take a few samples for me," he smiled. He reached into a small cupboard and pulled out a small box. "Just place this on the ground wherever you go and it will automatically do what is necessary while you convince your friends to join us. Just remember to pick it up before you leave," he chuckled.

Walker grins. "No reason why I can't do that for you." Shaking his head as their technology truly amazes him. "Place that little gizmo on the ground, and just like that you get every sample?" Accepting the box his brow lifts slightly. "Hmm, let me see? Can I recall such a massive amount of information?" With a wink at Erik and a chuckling grin Walker became serious "Dangers of leaving future tech behind, it would have unknown yet drastic effect on the timeline. I dread the thought of a what if scenario, so I'll be careful."

Feeling for a pocket it'll fit in didn't find any. "Uh, this shirt and pants don't have pockets big enough. May I possibly get a jacket and pants like yours, with a lot of pockets? "It's a strange feeling ... for once in my life I want to fit in. Besides, I think they look cool." He green eyes twinkle imagining himself wearing the uniform. He begins to talk of lil' extras.

"Instead of a flag, a peace symbol in reflective rainbow on the right shoulder? Hmm letters under the symbol reading 'Save Mother Earth Mission #1.' On the other opposite 'Walker Fredrickson Science Team.' Walker needs to calm himself and is surprised how easy that is now. Hyper activity is gone even before he can say. "If it's OK with Prime Swartz that is.

Rubbing his hands together briskly. "Do you think I'll be going to get my friends soon? I'm also anxious to see them. Walker sighs deeply crossing his arms. "I especially want to see Sam, but I can't tell her much of anything. I just don't like keeping secrets from her, she's fragile enough as is. But with all this going on? Without me who knows what state she's in."

Max rantings did nothing to the expression on Zenith's face. He casually turned gaze to Stephen and asked. "Are you done with him sir?'

"Affirmative." Stephen replied. "You can have him."

With inhuman speed Zenith moved behind Max and with the side of his palm, he knocked out the outsider by hitting the back of his neck.

*****
Few hours later.
"You finally join the living Mr Godwin. I fear we've started on the wrong grounds. Now allow me to formally introduce myself." Zenith began as he rounded the steel table. He had removed his battle gear and was dressed in light Khaki and grey skin-tight sleeveless. His thick rippled muscles displayed proudly on his arms.
"My name is Frankenstein and I don't give a hoot about anything. I am killing machine, trained by the highest military order of the future." He paused to study the expression on the man's face. "I presume you are a soldier... you're not a stranger to pain... so believe me when I say, I'm no stranger in inflicting one either."
Max was held up by gravitational force. His hands and legs spread apart in X pattern.
Zenith pulled out his blasters and placed it on the table. He brought out a pair of black gloves and as he wore them asked. "Where is the nuclear Warhead located?"

Max Godwin was an asshole. He was also a big coward. Spread eagle with the anti-gravity, he struggled for a second and recognized there was no way to free himself. He was helpless to defend himself.

“Hey, Mr. Frankstein… I don’t know anything. There is no point in interrogating me. I don’t know anything.” Max sniveled, getting ready to beg for his life.

He had been told that torture "is a poor technique that yields unreliable results, may damage subsequent collection efforts, and can induce the source to say what he thinks the interrogator wants to hear." Not only was torture ineffective at gathering reliable information, but it also increases the difficulty of gathering information from a source in the future. He realized at that moment, he might not have a future. He gasped and would have wet himself at that moment, but his bladder had not refilled from his last lease.

“I’ll tell you everything… please don’t torture me!” He begged Frankstein

[“I’ll tell you everything... please don’t torture me!” /B]

Zenith was a little disappointed when Max gave up easily. He had expected some sort of resistance or maybe this target thinks to be too good to fool him.

"Yes, I'm listening." He said then added, "just so you know my genetic third eye here is a hundred times better than any functional magnetic resonance imaging ever created by man. I can see right into your brain. Notice the change in your prefrontal cortex. So I'm gonna warn you," Zenith paused, picked up a stick of cigarette, lit it up and half closed his eyes for a while as he enjoyed the luxuries of the past.
"don't even think of lying." He opened his third eye, a crimson red contrast from his light blue orbs.

Max Torture (get it... its a play on words!)

The third eye that Frankstein exposed really freaked Max out.

“OH MY GOD… I’m going to DIEEEEEEEEEE” Max screamed in total terror. Frankstein simply sat and smoked the cigarette marveling at how the chemicals in the burning weed were trying to affect his body.

“FUCK ME, FUCK ME, FUCK ME!!” Max yelled as he struggled against the anti-gravity holding cuffs. Even with his new super strength Max could not escape the cuffs. He was starting to hyperventilate he was in such a total panic.

ALSA De Futuro walked into the room at this moment. It was at just the right time. Of course, ALSA De Futuro was tied into the ship’s main computers, so the timing was not an accident. The AI was trying to get Max to talk without the need for the human to be hurt.

“Max, calm down. I’m here. Just answer Mr. Frankstein questions.” ALSA De Futuro said in a calm, loving, voice.

“ALSA… KILL HIM… KILL THAT FREAK!!! And then set me free. I’ll fuck you anytime you want. DO IT NOW!!” Max screamed.

“Now Max, that is the wrong attitude. See, you have made Mr. Frankstein upset.” ALSA said as Frankstein got up and walked over to Max. ALSA turned her back to the scene not wanting to watch what would happen next, but she could hear everything.

Erik nodded to Walker. He looked at the man and then spoke up. "Computer runa body scan of Mr Walker please."

Several seconds later a pleasant female voice announced 'Scan complete."

Erik smiled and walked back to his desk and quickly added the information to Walkers file. He then requested a standard uniform in the mans size. Seconds later a small package arrived in his deliveries area. Opening the box he pulled out the package and handed it to Walker.

"One standard uniform tailored to your exact body measurements. I don't whether you would have owned anything as comfortable as this before. I am sorry I was not able to make your adjustments, but perhaps when you get back," he smiled.

Walker was looking around Erik's quite amazing lab, he's itching to learn whatever he will want to teach him. The female voice was obviously synthesized, but it's still pleasant upon the ears. Looking to see what the body scan of him was for, finally it dawns on him what. Chuckling as he spoke, "I should have known, you would have a tailoring process, for the measuring of a person and have clothing made for them in seconds."

Accepting the package graciously with a smile and a nod. Hearing Erik talk of not knowing whether he'd ever worn anything as comfortable as this before. The man was willing to fulfill whatever Walker asked for, within reason obviously. "I'll put it on and just find out for myself." As Erik apologizes that he wasn't able to make the adjustments, but perhaps when you get back. "I can't thank you enough for all you and Prime have for done for me."

Smiling afterwards as he spoke. Walker tucks the package under his left elbow. "Where might I be able change into my clothing?" Looking around he spots 'Men's Room' Stepping the restroom removing his old clothes and puts on the uniform, it fit him perfectly as no other clothing and is so soft. He'd step from the restroom feeling and looking like a new man, rubbing the sleeve with a grin.

Under his left elbow were his old clothes wrapped in the packaging. "You're were right I've never worn anything think comfortable in my life. Where's your waste disposal? I won't be needing these old things, I'd toss my shoes but I don't have any others when you arrived." Spotting that he steps over to it yet pauses, hugs his old clothes and in the disposal they go. "That's that. Clearly joking Walker enjoyed his Help sneakers. "Any boots to match?" He grins broadly with a deep chuckle. "I'm just joking, hemp Sneakers can be easily dyed to match the uniform. Or do I need protective boots to protect my feet in a work area?"

Max Godwin and Iceworm

“Mr Godwin, I think we know each you well enough now, do you mind if I call you Max?” Zenith asked as he dropped his cigarette to the ground.

“ALSA I’ll do anything… Kill him. He is going to harm me. I’m human… you have to stop him!!” Max begged ALSA.

“You and your generation are responsible for killing billions of humans in the future. You almost killed the entire planet. My duty is to stop you from harming them” ALSA replied not turning around to talk to Max.

“That was really stupid” Zenith stated in disappointment, as he looked to the ground and shook his head. His booted foot crushing the cigarette.

Max realized ALSA was not going to rescue me. Max knew he was in deep shit now. “You can call me Max. I was just joking about asking ALSA to kill you” Max gasped, sweat dripping off his face.

Zenith’s head came up and he looked into Max’s face. His red third eye staring at Max. “You did mean it. My third eye can detect when you lie Max. Remember” Zenith said with confidence. Then he walked over to the metal table and picked up what looked like a needle gun. He talked to Max as he prepared to use the gun. “Torture has been around a long time, Max. But it has some drawbacks. Pain is felt by the brain but after a while pain goes away because the nerve ending run out of chemical to send the signal of pain to the brain. The nerve goes numb. This particularly true for very intense pain, like the kind used in torture.”

Zenith had finished preparing the drug gun and walked over to Max and injected his arm with the blue looking fluid. While he did this he continued to explain what the drug was going to do to Max. “Luckily, as science explored better pain management drugs, they accidently discovered a drug which does the opposite. The drug allows the nerve ending to recharge much faster and thus the pain is felt in the brain with no relief.” Zenith said as he grabbed what looked to be a cattle prod.

“I don’t know anything… I told you all I know.” Max gasped in terror.

“Perhaps this will help your memory!” Zenith stated as he moved the prod towards Max’s crotch. An electric arch jumped over the gap to Max’s crotch. Max screamed in intense pain.

“See how the pain does not stop. Your nerves do not become numb, so the pain is non-stop. Quite the mind fuck don’t you think?” Zenith observed as Max’s eyes showed the intensity of the pain he was enduring. It was so painful that he could not think, talk, or even breathe. Zenith removed the shock stick, allowing Max gasp for breath.

After allows Max some time to recover, Zenith asked again “"Where is the nuclear warhead located?"

“There are 3 nucks; they were planning to get them to Greenland. I don’t know the detailed of the locations” Max gasped.

Zenith red eye confirmed what he was saying was true “Max, that was very good. Now think carefully, is there any detail that might help us locate them?” Zenith asked.

Max stared off into space… Zenith raised the shock stick again. “No… please… no” Max gasped. “I don’t know if this will help but the US has several sites on Greenland where nuclear weapons were going to be launched. I did over hear the location team ask for map sections for a project called “Iceworm”. That is all I can think that might help you.

ALSA De Futuro had her back turn the whole time and had said nothing. However, when project “iceworm” was mentioned she turned around.

“Iceworm was the code name for a top-secret United States Army program during the Cold War to build a network of mobile nuclear missile launch sites under the Greenland ice sheet. The ultimate objective was to place medium-range missiles under the ice, close enough to strike targets within the Soviet Union with very little notice. There were three sites, Camp Century, Thule AFB, and Camp Fistclench.” ALSA told Zenith.

OOC: Iceworm is a real project, and it fits our story perfectly. How cool is that? Check it out! Anyhow, for the story... that is where the US nucks are headed. However, Max does not know about the British nuck.
