Coming from BlackSnake's thread, why does one of the characters have to be black to make it an interracial story?

Conversely, why does one of the characters have to be white? I would greatly prefer African American male/ Puerto Rican female stories.

Romantisizing slavery is crass and offensive. Would you write a story about a Nazi falling in love with a Jewish concentration camp victim? It's practically blasphemous to suggest that Elizabeth Smart was in some way attracted to her captor but you are writing a story about an enslaved woman falling in love with her owner? I have to wonder what sort of mind would think that being enslaved was erotic?

I've been asked several times by readers to write a story of this type (white slavemaster/black female slave), but I never wanted to try for just this reason. I couldn't think of any way to do it that wouldn't be racist and offensive. But that doesn't mean it can't be done. Check out "Meet Your Master, Chapters 1-6," by Caramelz in the Interracial Love section. I thought it managed to avoid the obvious pitfalls of the plot, but then I'm reading from the white male point of view.

You know it is nice to see posts of story ideas and once in a while I like the ideas. I was just wondering if this topic is hot to you why do you not write a story your self?

I also know the reason black men and white women stories are more popular. That is not the case with all black men you know?

I have, (being a white male) when I am at my Island home been with a black woman on more than one occasion. It seems rather odd to write it down. I never once considered the color of her skin until now. I don't particularly like acknowledgeing the difference. This may be why I am not a big fan of interacial stories, because they depict persons as almost being a different species.

AMEN! This is exactly why the interracial stories don't appeal to me either. My husband is white, I slept with many white men when I was single...the interracial stories DO depict people as if they are of different species. I hope people don't walk around thinking about each other in this way...

Many, particularly American, whites seems to have difficulty admitting that the period of chattel slavery in the U.S. was the moral equivalent of the Shoah, the evil of which they are better able to grasp because they weren't the perpetrators and the victims were more or less white. Oddly, you rather see white people trying to romanticize the Jewish Holocaust, or writing "erotica" about prisoners of concentration camps and their Nazi captors. A person living in the abject degradation of slavery in the antebellum United States had no more ability to consent to sex with their oppressor--who had the legal right to inflict any indignity upon him/her, to included death, with impunity--than someone being herded onto a train bound for Bergen-Belsen.
