It's because the Democrats have thus far refused to embrace the social populism factor that would help them win elections by a significant margin. The Democrats continue to pander to big corporate interests and outsource critical human services (like health care, land use planning, and resource use planning) to corporate profiteers rather than recognizing that this is leading to exploitation of most American citizens and the ecological systems that support all life on Earth.
