Why are my stories in particular taking so long?

my last two stories took over 3 weeks

this current one was pending for almost 3 weeks so I resubmitted, been about a week and still nothing (while a writer friend of mine said he submitted his story 72 hours ago and it’s already up)

if it was just because they were busy that’d be different but pretty much every writer I’ve talked to say their stories are almost always up in 2-4 days (and some of them have accounts that are much newer than mine)

really not sure what I can do or change to fix this but it’s very discouraging and makes it impossible to schedule things out when it takes a month

Sorry to hear it, that must be really frustrating!

I'm afraid I can't tell you why it's taking so long. Some theories include new writers or specific categories getting extra scrutiny, but there are writers whose stories just sail through.

The approach that's generally recommended, if a story takes more than a week or two to be approved, is to send a DM to Laurel, the site owner ("Kitty Mama"), and ask politely whether perhaps your story has been overlooked or got stuck somewhere. You probably won't get a reply, but it usually speeds up the process.

I strongly encourage sending a message to Laurel. I got stuck for over 2 weeks with my last story, and before that I'd had a pretty steady track record of 2-4 days. It happens sometimes. In that case it was a little screw up on their end that they didn't catch right away.

I don't suppose you're posting in one of the image/audio categories? Those often take longer than the straight text categories.

When you are on your user dashboard and you click on the story that is pending, what comes up?

You don't want to click on pending stories, as any changes send the story to the back of the queue again. Though a 404 error means some part of the site is down, so probably just need to wait.

I'm confused atm as a new chapter in Pending got a orange New label, which should mean it goes live at 7am GMT, but it also has a grey label saying Published, which doesn't usually happen. And it isn't published and hasn't gone live this morning. Anyone else had that?

(Could someone look at my stories and/or the BDSM category and see if they can see Bad Brat Girl ch.5? Many thanks)

I'm confused atm as a new chapter in Pending got a orange New label, which should mean it goes live at 7am GMT, but it also has a grey label saying Published, which doesn't usually happen. And it isn't published and hasn't gone live this morning. Anyone else had that?

"New" doesn't necessarily mean it will be published the next day. There should be a date shown, which is when it will be published. Recently there seems to be at least one day extra in between approval and publication.

Does it have today's date? I submitted and it has the same as you, with the live date on the 6th.

If the same is true for you, Laurel approved it and set it to publish on the date listed. She does that fairly often, presumably to balance out the daily new stories.

There's also a bug for the last few weeks with some new stories that don't show in the Author's story list for a day or so after being published.

Stop personalising things. Why on earth would the site target you specifically?

Getting a story through the queue requires patience. Sometimes there are glitches, sure, so send a polite PM to Laurel after 7 or 8 days. Don't expect a response, you won't get one, but your story will either progress or you'll get a rejection.

The site processes over a hundred submissions every day - yours is one of many. Laurel doesn't know you from a bar of soap - any delay is because of a process, not because of any personal vendetta.

Ah, it says the 5th, which apparently is tomorrow. I've never seen that before in my 70 stories - they've always gone live within 24 hours of the New blob. And the addition of 'Published' was confusing me. I'll hold my horses until then.

kiwibat, please don't abandon your account because of delays. It's a very busy time with the contest and the special event, so a lot of stories are coming in to the already always busy queue. In addition, the site's been having some glitches and Manu's been working on it, trying to get things working; unfortunately, that doesn't always work so sometimes it's looks like it's a trial and error process. If you start a new account due to the problems you're having now, there's no guarantee you won't have similar issues with the new one and you'll have lost your current fan base. Keep messaging Laurel from time to time if the issue isn't resolved and she'll get to it as soon as she can. Good luck!

You did say, "or the admin dislikes me for some reason," which is what I responded to. This is actually quite common, people thinking it's something they've done, or the site is somehow picking them out, when it's always a glitch of some sort. We're all equal here, no-one gets singled out, all our stories go in the same queue.

The site has just run a major Contest with more than a hundred entries, which always take priority. Hopefully business will get back to normal, and your story will eventually get published.

Getting a first story published in three days would be very rare. You're definitely in the slow queue.

You could try another polite PM to Laurel, asking nicely if your story got lost.
