Why is sex funny?

Why does so much humor depend on sex?

All I can think of is, anything that makes people nervous has comedic potential.

Two possible reasons:

• Sex, when viewed as if in a vacuum - ie., minus the passion, lust, etc.. - is actually kinda gross behavior. Deep kissing? Dick sucking? Pussy eating? Rimming? Anal? Semen & Vaginal excretions? ...All of these things are kinda weird, kinda yucky. ...But add lust and desire into the mix, and holy-shit... there's nothing gross about ANY of it!

The amount of time we obsess over it, pursuing it and then... just as soon as we have it, we have about 30 minutes of clarity, of non sex-obsessed thinking, a short period of time when OTHER things can take center stage. ..But that only lasts about 30-60 minutes.. Then, back to sex obsession.

As humans we are capable of many great things. Just imagine the accomplishment of building a huge bridge, a 737, a tall building. Yet, despite our incredible cognitive and problem solving abilities, we can't help but fixate on sticking our penis inside things, or putting our mouths on body parts. Makes us look kinda foolish.. . But I lean into it. No shame for me. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Because sex is ludicrous: the effort we put into getting it, the social conventions around it, then finally the act itself. The only time I’ve looked hot and elegant during sex is when I’ve spent two hours editing the footage.

Perhaps it is bound up with the fact that we have moral rules about sex. They vary widely from culture to culture, but every known human culture has SOME rules about who may have sex with whom, how, and under what circumstances, and violation of those rules is always punishable by sanctions, ranging from social embarrassment to death. It all makes for a whole lotta anxiety, regarding which, see the OP.
