Why should anyone even care about Cuba?

It has been a long, long time now since the Cuban regime was any threat to anyone outside the island. They no longer send troops to fight civil wars in Africa. They are not even involved in the drug trade -- we would have heard a lot about THAT! -- unless tobacco counts as a drug.

Communism is dead as an international movement. There is no need to extirpate the remaining Communist regimes.

Communism is alive and well in your head. Capitalism will save the lives of the Cuban people. Buyers will swarm the island to buy up all of those 50's era car bodies, and they'll get up-to-date technology in return. They can make a 60-year evolutionary jump in a few short years. I'll have another place to go on vacation.

We will not invade by force. We will be welcomed ashore.
Ever since 1960, the legitimacy of the Cuban government has depended on standing up to the United States. That is why the people loved Castro -- he was the first Cuban leader since 1898 to stand up to the United States and make it stick. It's not about Communism, it's about nationalism. (A LOT of Communist revolutions in the 20th Century were really about nationalism, despite the professed internationalism of that ideology, just because Communism was against colonial imperialism.) They will never welcome US ashore. A post-Communist government would be just as obsessed with resisting the Yanquis. Even if it is profitable, they don't wanna be a playground for rich Americans like they were in the 1950s -- nobody has fond memories of that -- and like so much of the Caribbean is now.

Of course the MIAMI Cubans care. (But the Tampa Cubans don't -- they are not descended from refugees who fled Castro's revolution.)

The fate of Cuba remains uncertain as the Trump administration suggests a takeover is possible, alongside reports of a potential economic deal with the island nation.

The possibility of a free Cuba after 67 years is a major topic in the Cuban exile community. This follows President Donald Trump's declaration that the U.S. is actively pursuing change in Cuba.

"I'm really excited to see that we'll finally see a free Cuba in my lifetime," said Cuban American Jose Torrenete.

"I think there is a lot of hope and change for Cuba," said Cuban American Vivian Herrera.

Cuba, many Caribbean islands, and the Bahamas will eventually have waves of climate refugees leaving. Mexico might have a better climate than southeast US then, but at least some of the refugees will try to go to the US. Where the currents go is the easiest route without fuel.

Gee, how different would Cuba be if the Big Brother USA hadn’t been enforcing an embargo for the past many decades?

Rightwing shills like you love to trash Cuba as an example of how communism fails, but it’s not really a good example because of the US interference, is it?

Be slightly more honest and tell us how badly China is failing.

Democratic senators file war powers resolution to check Trump on Cuba
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Democrats have filed legislation that would prevent the U.S. from attacking Cuba without congressional approval as they seek to force a vote on President Donald Trump’s stated goal of a “takeover” of the Caribbean country.

Democrats have repeatedly used war powers resolutions to force debate on Trump’s foreign policy moves, though Republicans have so far mostly backed the president. The resolution filed Thursday by Democratic Sens. Tim Kaine, Ruben Gallego and Adam Schiff would require the president to remove the military from any hostilities with Cuba and could potentially receive a vote by the end of the month.

“Only Congress has the power to declare war under the Constitution, but he operates with the belief that the U.S. military is a palace guard, ordering military action in the Caribbean, Venezuela, and Iran without Congress’ authorization or any explanation for his actions to the American people,” Kaine said in a statement.

Can anyone come up with a REASON to care whether Cuba's present government remains in power?

Cuba is not a threat to the USA. The Pig thinks that threats, embargo, and violence are the way to address every dictatorship, except for his. He has no imagination to be anything other than a boarding school bully.

The Pig is an imminent threat to multiple nations. What if those nations follow the leads of the Pig and Netanyahu, and decide that "decapitating" USA leadership is an acceptable way to deal with an imminent threat?

Then I presume Cold War continuity-of-government preparations remain in effect.

Concern, anger and hope simmer in Cuba after Trump calls for ‘imminent action’ against government

HAVANA (AP) — A mix of uncertainty, anger and hope simmered in Cuba on Wednesday following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump this week saying that Washington could take “imminent action” against the island’s government.

Trump, whose government has come at its Caribbean adversary more aggressively than any U.S. government in recent history, has effectively cut Cuba off from key oil shipments in an effort to force regime change. The blockade has had devastating effects on the civilians Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio say they want to help, leaving many desperate.

Island-wide blackouts have roiled Cubans already grappling with years of crisis, and lack of gasoline and basic resources has crippled hospital and slashed public transport.

Matilde Visoso, a single mother caring for a sick daughter, said she’s been left reeling by the island’s spiraling crisis, and wants change in the Caribbean nation.

“Cuba is waiting for Trump and Marco Rubio, because we can’t wait any longer. It’s too much — there is a lot of repression, there is a lot of hunger,” the 64-year-old homemaker said. “Cuba is in tears.”

Carlos Fernández de Cossío: Cuba 'preparing' for 'possibility of military aggression'

Deputy foreign minister's remarks come days after Trump says It will be an 'honor' to 'take Cuba'

Cuba is preparing for possible U.S. aggression even as Trump administration officials have recently signaled they are not planning an invasion, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío said Sunday.

"Our military is always prepared, and in fact it is preparing these days for the possibility of military aggression," Fernández de Cossío told NBC News’ "Meet the Press" in an interview that aired Sunday.

"We would be naive if, looking at what’s happening around the world, we would not do that."

"But we truly hope that it doesn’t occur. We don’t see why it would have to occur, and we find no justification whatsoever — why would the government of the United States force its country to take military action against a neighboring country like Cuba?"

Cubans praying for humanitarian aid from the Nuestra América flotilla: ‘God willing, something will reach me’

The island, under a near-total embargo, awaits the arrival Saturday of three ships sponsored by international organizations to alleviate basic shortages
“Friends of solidarity with Cuba shared messages for the Cuban people during a time of heightened threat.” Mariana turns up the volume on the television and listens to the day’s news on Cubavisión. She has been without water for two weeks, and her two-year-old daughter eats only yogurt because there isn’t enough for anything else. On the screen, Michele Curto appears, a member of the Nuestra América Convoy, an international initiative driven by social organizations to bring humanitarian aid to the island. Dressed in a white T-shirt that reads “Let Cuba breathe,” Curto states: “We’re not just doing this for Cuba, but for ourselves. We’re doing it as activists and thinking beings.” Mariana, 30, sighs and implores heaven: “God willing, some of that aid will reach me, because it’s desperately needed.”

Her small home is a makeshift corner of what was once a warehouse in Cerro, a working-class neighborhood in Havana. In the room where she sleeps, sheets hang from the ceiling to collect rainwater that seeps through the gaps in the roof; sometimes she uses them to wash the dishes. In this neighborhood, a couple of days ago, residents blocked the streets with tree trunks and empty buckets in protest, after 19 days without a drop of water. “We took to the streets because this situation is unbearable,” Mariana explains. “We didn’t plan it. One of us went out, and then the other mothers joined spontaneously. We can’t take it anymore.”

because it's another scape goat, the black sheep in the list of south American countries, i.e. Venezuela was the black sheep but with so much to offer that its Blacksheep Ness didn't just make sense, but Cuba ... Evil is a requirement, otherwise how will the "goodfellas" thrive
