Winter Olympics 2010--Anyone Watching?

I had to stop watching to go out and shovel snow. Doesn't seem fair.

Tell the truth. You went out there and you pretended to ski down those mounts you'd just created, snowboard a slope and luge the driveway, didn't ya? :D

So sad about Lindsey Jacobellis, snowboarder who fell in the last Olympics losing a gold medal, and this time ended up not even qualifying. Just one of those things. She was, evidently, perfect all day long--then when the moment came, had a foul-up. :(

Tomorrow we get Shaun White and halfpipe fun! Whooo-hoo! :)

And then there's men's figure skating. Did the Japanese skater (Takahashi) look like he'd seen too many vampire movies? Or maybe just whoever costumed him did....Or maybe elvis?

He was excellent. Very sexy and full of restless energy.

Hey, is there anywhere online that I can see Shen & Zhao's award ceremony? Damn NBC only shows those which include Americans

Okay. So let me guess. The three Japanese male figure skaters have a Manga comic about them where they're a team of superheroes...right? The youngest (20 year old Kozuka) was my favorite. He did an amazing performance to Hendrix, one of the few skaters who looked like he loved his music and like he wasn't doing a routine but was improvising. Natural, energized. But I guess the Judges didn't like Hendrix as he landed in 5th. Ah, well, he'll have many more Olympics to show his stuff.

Then there was androgynous Johnny Weir in a leather "corset" with spangles and a pink tassel :D

Then there was the Italian skater in overalls :)confused:), Kevin Van Der Perren in his halloween costume:

And Evan Lysacek in a "Prince of Darkness" outfit complete with black feathers. He did a magnificent job (2nd place!), but talk about a costume that not only doesn't suit him but is pretty ridiculous...unless you're trying to kill Harry Potter that is.

Yes, I know, it's not a fashion show...except it kinda is ;) That's part of the fun.

Excuse me? What other country set three of its pairs in the top five positions? (How many other even had three teams in the the competition?)

And the third Chinese team has shone in the past. They just had a bad night. (Which goes for the three Russian pairs--and the German pair, whose skating achievements, I don't think, should be obliterated by a diatribe about their coach). How many German pairs were in the competition again? And where did they rank?

No, you misunderstood me. I had wished them luck (and every other pair) and I wanted them to be in front of the German pair! Steuer has far too much arrogance in him. But I guess its better for his wife that she won at least a medal, one has to fear for her health even now.

Which country sends how many skaters is depending on the results in former competitions btw. Usually Germany is lucky if they are allowed to send two, but there had been times when we did send three skaters also (in women competition of late).

Updates for Germany:

As an ex-pat living thousands of miles away from my homeland, and with only Eurosport to show me (lol - you know what I mean if you're in Europe) whole events, I've relied on Internet news from Canada, the US and England for my Olympic play-by-play. Bloggers haven't been kind to the opening ceremonies, let alone the games, and responses to news reports and blogs have been less kind about the way the Vancouver games have been progressing. One reporter actually blamed Canadians for the shitty weather, some bloggers report that the opening ceremonies was nothing less that a slag at American culture.

Strange as it may seem, the AH is the only place I've found post after post (JB aside) of positive vibes regarding the Olympic games in Vancouver. I just want to say WOW, and to thank you all for it. :kiss:

Edit to add: KEEP IT UP!

Half-pipe! Can't wait to see the finals. :D I missed today's curling. Need to go see who won.

OMG, the women's downhill is a horrible event for crashing tonight. So many falls and injuries.

Loved seeing the emotion out of Vonn, loved seeing my homeboy Shaun White's new trick (way to represent SoCal dude!)

But a sweet victory for Lindsey Vonn. Good for her.

Yes! She got what she'd been after her whole life--and since the last Olympics for sure. Ditto on the sentiment. Good for her!

And Shawn White just blew the scores away in his first run.

And took it to new heights on his victory lap!

Shaunie boy! My Shaunie boy.... :D He is one of those athletes--does the most amazing things and makes them look effortless. "I wish they all could be California booooez....!"

The Games of Vonn-couver continue :)

The German Athletes did all get free condoms for the games, with the sign "Go for Gold" on it! :D

Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch, Luge Double, Bronze:

Good that we got at least one medal tonight, else I'd have had to start complaining: Too much wind, too many hills and the snow was too white also! If we win, it is strategical planning and smartness. If we lose, its an evil conspiracy! :D

1 USA 5 3 6 14

Anyone else catch the Stephen Colbert NBC interview at the Olympics last night lamenting that the end of the cold war has taken the a good bit of the "my country's gonna kick your country's ass" out of the Olympics? Cute that.
