Actually I think most of them would have done better.

Let's put their various NeoCon, TheoCon and other politics aside for a moment.

Most comport themselves as presidential. Most were better qualified. Most do better when fact checked. Most do a better job of not offending and alienating entire religions, genders, nationalities, ethnicities, etc.

Now I realize that Cruz is despised by his peers, and has a gift for alienating voting blocs, and that Fiorina and Carson were unqualified, and that Paul doesn't have the disposition for the job. I'll leave Kasich off the table as per your original post.

That said, if Rubio ( not in my top couple of choices ) were the nominee he wouldn't have a problem unifying the party, or broadening the support beyond old white guys. He wouldn't be neglecting fundraising, and he wouldn't be polling a 70% unfavorable or polling over 50% who would say they would never vote for him.

He'd be a legitimate threat, not threatening to lose the election before he's even crowned at the convention.
