and no fucking H's, what is the matter?
Fancies in Free Flight by Rybka
a mastery of white space and words, alright I didn't like the first line, Rybka's trademark.

and

Spilled Erotic Measure
by manipulatrix

reminds me of an annaswirls thought process in a structured setting.

Both deserve to revisited, both take some time. Go for it.

Thank you for your kind words, but the truth of the matter is that only four out of all the poems I presently have up have reached the magic 10 votes. "Fancy" right now has seven votes out of 174 reads, and a rating of 5  All but two have "H" scores, just not enough votes. And frankly, the two below 4.5 surprise me because they are two of the easiest to follow, Rainbow Haiku and The Equinox Experiment which now has 14 votes and was a straight 5 when it hit 10. ~ Go figure! ;)

I hadn't check the stats in quite some time until I read your post. ~ I believe Senna Jawa once did a fairly extensive study on reads and votes and scores. All I remember at present is that there tends to be a "1" voter when a poem hits 10 (probably to lower the work on the Top List), and that certain types of poetry gets far fewer votes than others, even if a poem has a large number of views.

Anyway, we've been here before. :)

Half of the readers have attension spans of gnats, the remaining half are just lazy, and the remaining half of that are on the buddy fuck system.

Really, whether or not it gets an H, it should be commented on, after all it is an "E" . Seriously, Ryb, I read yours and commented on, before I even realised it was an "E".

Every six months, another thread "why is poetry dying?" Here is the answer: YOU DON'T FUCKING THINK FOR YOURSELF, that is if you even bother to think at all.

Well, since I started the most recent such thread are you addressing me with this? Just who is this YOU that you capitalize and throw around?

Frankly, E's are neato, but they mean that ONE person in the world thought your poem was especially good, so they are only meaningful to that level.

H's are also neato, (and this comes from someone who had a couple, once upon a time, and was sort excited about it temporarily) but also relatively meaningless. Just how meaningful an H is is an enormous debate that rages everywhere on this board, and I've successfully managed to stay out of those dramas. I will do so here as well.

Hey Eluard, I'm not sure. Do I think for myself? Please tell me.

Your math is really trippin me out. But I like it. And where do I sign up for the buddy fuck system? I mean, not for this board, but...

"These are lost drunken men who don't know where they are and no longer care.
Over here are lost drunken men who don't know where they are but DO care. Here are men who are lost but not drunk, and don't care. Over here..."

- Kentucky Fried Movie, A Fistful of Yen

Darlin', I'm just joshin' ya. One thing not to do about poetry is to get all angry about how no one cares. That won't get more readers. It will only make us seem even more elitist than we already are.

Yes, bijou, you most certainly do think for yourself — and never forget it.

Well, half of the time you do — another half of the time you are too busy getting up to mischief. But then another, other, half of the time you are conversing with God — and no one since Duns Scotus knows whether that involves thinking or not.

All the E means is that the operators of the site liked it. Nothing more, nothing less.

A lot of very solid work on this site does not earn the coveted "E", she said, trying to keep the deep injury, low self-esteem and lifelong hurt out of her voice.

In my experience 'E' simply means "Erratically singled out" or something. Sometimes they're good, sometimes (IMO) quite bad.

WTF does anyone care about freakin' Es and Hs? We're just here for the sex, right?

THANK YOU! I was hoping someone besides me could point that out.

Man, if I had a thousand posts, I would change the line under my name to read "here for the sex". Golly gee, it must be cool to be able to do that. Someday...

I think it looks better than an E

Fabulous! Did I earn that for a particular piece, or just for being generally obnoxious and opinionated? I just need to know how to cultivate more of those. They're immensely important to me now, and I need to have as many as possible. Just tell me what to do.

Hey let's make up lots of completely random awards. Here's my first suggestion: the Scarlet B, for people I totally want to seduce. Several of you will be getting them any minute now.

Here's one for you! it is the first letter in what matters most

self Esteem!

when you base your perception of your writing on a single letter, you turn into Homer Simpson

Homer's got two, though:
D'O!

and yes, well said.
I must admit to having valued the numbers and scores early on, just because I was all excited. I was brand new to all of this. When my first story got to about #6 in its category I was all excited and bragged to all my friends. Then suddenly it disappeared completely, and I didn't know about one-bombs and such then. I was terribly sad and figured my writing wasn't as good as I thought. I could have saved myself a lot of ups and downs if I'd understood that the numbers are mostly a game.

That's what the Buddha was talking about, I think. Cultivating detachment from success and failure. This board has furthered my enlightenment in that area.

I was the same way...at first :)

had my feelings hurt and it wasn't any fun, lol....but I was just thinking, realizing...there are some people on here who have deleted more E's than you would believe!!

deleted them! when there are people craving them, coveting them, lol

as a poet grows, the poet learns what means most and it usually isn't an H or an E, it is the fellowship that comes from learning from one another here...well, thats what I think anyway.

I wish you an E in your very near future, but dont write like you want one, write like you DONT and then it will happen!!

:)

I might take the Es more seriously if there was a panel of esteemed and experienced poets poring over our efforts and heatedly discussing the quality and content........but...........oh well.

Until I know who's responsible for dishing out Es my tongue's firmly in my cheek.
