"Formal? I was just exercising some of fhe manners my grandparents taught me. Granted, they don't surface often, but when they do, I try to keep them polished." Greg grinned at Braddock's name for Gabriella.

Gabriella just smiled to both of them then to the others as they all are and talked happily. She was an entirely different person here. Here there was no job no vermin to break it was the same Gabriella that she was beginning to show Greg when they were alone.

Greg was surprised how like his own family get-togethers this all felt. Sure, there'd been tension at first, but he remembered how on edge everybody was when his sister brought her first boyfriend home. The big difference was, his family generally tended not to take care of business using the kinds of tactics most of the people in the room were reputed to employ.

He had to stop thinking that way.. If he started acting weird, he was pretty sure they would, too, and this truce Alexi had announced on his arrival would be out the window, and worse, Gabriella would be disappointed and angry at him.

The food was delicious. He made a point to try at least a little of everything. Even with the careful portions he dished out for himself, by the time he'd tried everything, he was verging on stuffed.

I fix up the rest you two take back with you. Have to make sure our Gabriella eats more than bar food and carry out.

Gabriella smiled.

You would be surprised if you vot out of this place and Bastien's limited cooking skills Serena lots of even dive bars and sports bars have decent food. Like the one I work at now. One of the cooks... If people order nachos they basically get a salad on top of homemade tortilla chips. And a bout a half a dairy's worth of cheese but still.

Greg listened to what Gabriella told Serena and nodded. Even though Lance's place was in a dumpy part of town, and he kept the place just clean enough to keep the city from closing it down, he did tend to hire more than competent staff. The current cook was indeed worth her weight in something valuable, in any event. However, Serena's leftovers would be a welcome addition to the refrigerator.

"I don't know, Serena, I think Gabriella's eating just fine," Greg told the older woman, giving Gabriella's shapely form an appraising once-over. "However, I don't know about her, but I'd be glad to take leftovers with me. That was the most delicious meal I've eaten in a long time."

Gabriella just smiled.

Always love having food Serena cooked around.

Greg smiled up at the cook. "Package it up, then. We'll gladly take the rest along. Thank you so very much for such a fantastic meal."

Serena nodded and they all smiled and began to clean the table. Gabriella pulled Greg off to the side for a moment and kissed him with a purr next to his ear. She had been way too nice the entire time they were there. Her whispered purr next to his ear.

I am picturing that lovely hotel we passed about half way here.

Then as if nothing happened she walked away and helped clean up.

As everybody got up and helped clear the table, Gabriella grabbed Greg and pulled him off into a corner. The hubbub of clinking dishes and shuffling feet was still audible, but it was all well out of visual range.

The Gabriella who pinned Greg to the wall was the sultry, sexy vixen he'd come to know and love. Oh, he really loved the playful, honestly happy woman he'd seen off and on, particularly since they arrived to visit the people she considered her family, but there was lust in her eyes as she looked up at him and ground her hips into his crotch.

She stretched herself up so she could whisper, "I was just thinking of that lovely little hotel we passed on the way here," gave him a saucy little smile, then sashayed her shapely bottom away and back around the corner.

Greg's cock had started to swell once Gabriella had pushed him against the wall. Yeah, he was bigger than her, and outweighed her, but he loved her aggression regarding her sexuality. If it hadn't been her uncle's place, Greg suspected they'd have fucked right there in that corner. As it was, her suggestion had him stiff as a board almost instantly. With her gone, there arose a dilemma: should he just go back out and let the whole room know what kind of effect their sister and niece had on him (they probably suspected, especially the two who'd had a relationship with her in the past), or should he stand there and let his erection go down? His mind was now whirling with images of Gabriella's beyond sexy body nude and writhing on his cock, of him going down on her and making her scream, and any number of other erotic scenarios. With all that fueling his arousal, his cock wasn't softening any time soon. And he figured eventually somebody would ask, "Where's your boyfriend?" Or course, there was the possibility of the excuse of using the bathroom, but the lavatories were at the opposite end of the building, and everyone had seen Gabriella take Greg to the spot he stood in now.

Finally, he made the decision. It would be embarrassing, and hopefully he wouldn't offend anybody when he stepped out into the room sporting the bulge that now strained his zipper. He really, really hoped no one would even notice.

Trying to position himself so he might have a chance of hiding his hard-on, he stepped out into the room where everybody else was just wrapping up the clean-up, and pitched in immediately, to try to hide his arousal further...

Gabriella was smiling helping Serena box everything up as she turned to Greg.

You wanna run this into the fridge Greg?

Handing him the first box with a devious little smile.

When Gabriella handed Greg the leftovers and asked him to put them in the fridge, she had that evil, knowing smile on her face. She knew exactly the effect she'd had on him. He knew she'd seen how hard he was. She knew, with all this stuff to carry, there'd be no way to hide his hard-on, and it'd be necessary to walk past the gauntlet of every one of her brothers on the way to the kitchen.

Still, while she was posing it as a "do me a favor" kind of thing, he knew she knew he would do it. He'd let her become his Mistress, and while she didn't play the card exceptionally hard much of the time, he knew she wasn't really giving him a choice.

"Sure," he said, trying not to let his nervousness show. His cock hadn't softened one iota, and the spell Gabriella had on him after the promise of a stop on the way home... there was no way he was going to refuse.

He let the ladies load him up, then led with his bulge (at least it felt that way) as he headed straight through the boys to the kitchen and the refrigerator...

She just smiled and turned back to Serena and sat down talking with her once they were done. Alexi and the guys were busy cleaning the kitchen and dishes. If they noticed anything they didn't say anything. Everyone was happy and relaxed.

Greg was relieved. Nobody noticed anything, or if they did, they had the dignity not to draw attention to it. Considering how Ram, especially, had been so far, he expected some kind of comment, at least. Nothing. It raised them all up in Greg's eyes.

It was one of the last images Greg had ever imagined he'd see, when he watched a man with Alexi's reputation dunk his hands into a sink of dishes and start to wash them. As well, seeing the men in the reports straightening up the kitchen like they were just drudges instead of the hardened killers he'd read about in the officials, just hammered home the fact that, while they might be capable of the kinds of things their files described, deep down, they were just people like anybody else.

Gabriella sat pleasantly talking with "Aunt" Serena when he emerged from the kitchen. Greg walked over to her, and slid his hands over her shoulders and rested them on her upper chest, not going too far, mind you. Even though his cock was still hard, it wasn't nearly as prominent as it had been a few minutes earlier. This wasn't the visit with these people he'd expected. He wasn't exactly sure what he'd expected, but to find a bunch of just... people was surprising. The cop in him said they were doing all this for his benefit, and to an extent, they were. Still, they were just guys in the long run, and anything else aside, he got the impression that this was these men at any time they weren't being the men in the files.

Alexi had made the environment comfortable for Greg. He wasn't sure what kind of reception he'd have received had Alexi not told the boys to play nice, but there was always Gabriella to consider. It seemed like, next to Alexi, she was the one the boys all listened to. Well, he guessed there was probably a spine of steel in the sweet old lady Serena, but it seemed, where the brothers were concerned, when Gabriella wanted something, they did their best to achieve it.

Serena smiled to Greg.

What questions do you have that these boys are too allegedly intimidating to ask?

Gabriella smiled leaning against him.

Greg started to caress Gabriella's hair as he stood behind her. When Serena asked him to question her, at first he was speechless. Then, something came to him.

"I know how Gabriella feels about these men. They gave her shelter and reason when her life was a shambles, to put it mildly. They made her one of them, gave her a family. Not the kind of family she'd been born into; that doesn't even deserve the designation, but one where everyone respects everyone else and looks out for each other, like a real family's supposed to be.

"I know what the official record says about them, and even about my lovely lady here. I knew that couldn't be the entire story. Almost nobody has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

"I know what I've observed today. Granted, when I arrived, the boys were ordered to play nice. I don't know whether that meant they weren't to give me a hazing like brothers usually like to give their sisters' boyfriends, or if it meant my profession was to be ignored in my assessment by them, or if it meant they weren't allowed to rough me up in any way.

"I know generally what I've gathered in recent months. I know it isn't the complete story. As with any story, you never know it all. All we can know is the bits and pieces we learn along the way, and the puzzle is never truly complete, but each piece makes the picture clearer, and really that's all we're ever after: to get enough pieces that you can at least recognize the truth.

"You don't come from these people or their world. Well, you've lived on the outside of it for some time; nearby, but not within. Until recently, that is. Given your unique position here, what can you tell me about these men, about who and what they might be? I'm not asking this to judge, I'm not asking this as a cop, I'm just trying to clear up the picture. For me, so I can understand better the men the woman I love calls her family."

Oh these boys are harmless. Alexi walks so many paths in this town and especially in this neighborhood. He grew up with most of the political element and due to parents he has walked among the Russians and the Irish and now keeps both in check. He only allows the family to aid if it is as I am sure your files have shown is taking out those that deserve it. Darkness taking out darkness as I am sure it will appear to a cop.

She also seemed to accept what he was without judgement.

Gabriella would you go see what's taking those boys so long... Thank you.

Gabriella just nodded curious but would not question Serena. Waiting till she left the room she leaned closer to him.

Speaking of that thing called her mother actually asked me about her just yesterday when I was at the hospital visiting a neighbor. Surprised all that alcohol and everything else hasn't killed her.

Greg was astounded. "Her mother? What did she want to know? There have been mysterious goings-on around Gabriella lately. She pooh-poohs it, but she's mentioned her mother and a man. A bad man."

After her father and brother die that the only people her mother finds You tell Alexi about this and tell him who she has named.

Ram had caught part of that.

Who has she mentioned? What's going on Greg.

The big man seemed to almost bulk up with every word.

"Ram, can you get Alexi for me? It seems a hornet's nest has been stirred up now. Gabriella won't like that this is going down this way, but I can't tell if she's taking it seriously or not, and if this guy's as bad as she claims, the last thing she needs is for him to come back into her life any more than he already has.

"The other guys probably should know about it, too. She might have already mentioned it to Alexi, but now that Ram's involved, he won't let it be until he knows what's happening."

With the advent of all this, Greg was pretty sure that rendezvous at the hotel on the way home was probably out the window, but things were snowballing, and pretty soon, they'd probably become an avalanche.

Guys!!!

The big man's voice boomed.

Get out here seems sis is keeping info from the family.

Alexi was the first out.

I know what is going on... And who it may be. I said this visit was family not issues.

Gabriella stormed out.

He would not have volunteered info what did you say Serena?

That actually seemed to grab everyone's attention as well and quite possibly Alexi knew this info too. Serena sighed.

I told him your mother had the nerve to ask me about you the other day so he said you had told him about her and one of her slimes after your father.

Braddock spoke up.

Which slime Greg?

Greg looked directly at Gabriella before he spoke. She hadn't wanted this to become a family matter. It was why she'd gone behind closed doors with Alexi when they'd arrived. However, Ram's overhearing his conversation with Serena had blown the whole thing up. He hadn't actually meant to talk about it without Gabriella's permission, but when the subject of her mother came up, for some reason, it'd just come out.

He walked over to where Gabriella stood and faced her, He took her arms, which were crossed tightly against her body, whether in anger or protection from the name he was going to say, he wasn't sure.

Placing a hand against her cheek, he looked down deep into her eyes, then placed a small kiss on her tightly closed lips. Then, still staring down at her, he said, "The name she's given me was Vince."

A low lethal growl rumbled through Ram and Bastien and Braddock both tensed and Caleb looked at Alexi.

When were you going to tell us about this?

Gabriella looked at each of them.

ENOUGH! It's probably not even him. He is probably not even alive any more anyway. As for my mother asking about me... Who gives a shit? This trip was supposed to be fun... Relaxing... A chance for you all to see I can be happy outside of "work" not dredging up past crap.

Greg grabbed Gabriella and pulled her back.

"Baby, baby, sshh. Just relax. This is not okay. Look at you right now. You're getting hysterical. Whether it's real or not, it's real for you and that's what matters to me. This whole deal has you freaked out. I'm sorry the day had to turn out like this. I originally wanted to do this through official channels, but I'm thinking that might not be possible. Let's face it, they were going to find out eventually, and if it really is Vince, I'd rather they found out now, rather than have you not show up for work one day while I'm at the precinct, and find you dead days later.

"I know you wanted your uncle to look in on this quietly, but it's out now. Your brothers want to help. If it's nothing, great. If it's something, who better to take care of it than your family and your cop?

"I won't let anything happen to you if I can help it. Neither will they. Please."

Are you saying you want these four stomping around town?

She watched his eyes closely.

Yeah I told Alexi in private I asked if he knew or could find out where he was and told him I would handle it and I had you I didn't need him to send anyone at this time... Now this...

She shook her head and walked behind the bar grabbing the bourbon and downing a large shot.

Greg went over to the bar and grabbed the glass before Gabriella could pour herself another drink.

"Up until about three minutes ago, I'd have said no. In fact, I was hoping to keep them out of it, too. Now, I think you'll agree, it's going to be almost impossible for them not to be involved. I don't even know if a decree from your uncle would keep them away. If I've picked up anything from this visit, it's that these men love you and will go to any length necessary to try to keep you safe."

He then took the bottle she still held, poured some in the glass and drank it. "If the boys do come into town to investigate they'll have a jump on the police, because, your statement aside, I can pretty much guarantee nothing's been done yet, because there's no hard proof that it's Vince, and so far, there's only one person with a suspicion that it's him. You. And so far, nothing he's done so far constitutes a threat in their eyes. He's made no demands on your life, no threats of physical harm. You have no prior reports of being stalked, so chances are, until there's a direct threat made on you, the cops won't do much. Sorry, but it's the way things are. Only so many resources to distribute, and they're already stretched so thin you can see through them.

"If the boys can get in and back out without ruffling a lot if feathers, it'll all be cool. If they cross too many of the wrong paths, I'll have to deny I know them."

He poured another glass, but didn't bring it to his lips. "I know a major shitstorm just started to rumble, but until it blows over one way or another, there's no way you'll be able to sleep safe. You can't be happy if you're looking over your shoulder all the time."
