Your CoVid Summer

It was nice to have everyone around more for a bit. More meals at the table, more game nights before the oldest left. We’ll see if they stay away. Her school is being very cautious. They’ve only brought freshmen on to campus and all classes are virtual, so it may just work.

Like most we spent more time in the garden and on remodeling projects.

My summer experience centered around a trip to the mountains in CO back in July.
Coaxing a 20-year-old Jeep from Austin to Salida took a bit of prepping. Not so much though, the jeep is in good shape - and a fuggin soldjah. The biggest thing was discovering the rear gate no longer opened after I hit the UPS truck. That had to be fixed somehow. Camping out of a fully loaded TJ wrangler is an exercise in playing tetris with your shit anytime you need something. Not being able to open the rear...oy.

Oh yeah, so I hit a UPS truck.

I was as shocked by this as anyone should be. I'm a good driver. Not a flawless record mind you, but considering the risks I take there have been little to no consequences. On the day, I walked out of the house, hopped in the jeep. I usually let it warm up a beat before I go anywhere. ....stay with me here.
Since the 'Vids, the children have been on the street. So I look both ways multiple times before I eeeeeeeeease out of my driveway. CLANK. I look up to find WTF....a UPS truck parked perfectly behind me, just out of my left or right view, at the foot of the driveway. I check the rear view....a perfect bland sea of brown. Maybe he pulled up perfectly behind just as I began to back out? Maybe not driving for days at a time had taken it's toll. Anyway, no harm, no foul. Or so I thought.

I molested the rear gate into working good enough for the trail. I wont bore you all with endles details of the trip...sunny days, cool nights, a twisting mountain river, campfires and good company. It was perfection.

Tore down and rebuilt a deck, organized my files, tried new foods, and taught homeschool.

The only thing I really missed was not going to check out my sister's new lake place, since she is immune compromised and I am a front-line worker.

better next year? No way, if Trump has not be charged with crimes. It will be worse.

Same as always, chillin' at the seaside summer house. Best part, less tourists.

Repaired a boat. Neglected a lawn. Fought a vole. Went home.
