I am curious. What types of music do you prefer to listen to?

I usually listen to the country stations and that is mostly what I have on my cd's in the truck but lately I have been enjoying a "classic rock of the 80's" station in Houston (106.9). I also enjoy various alternative things that I dig up or come across (We have a great cd of popular songs from the Civil War.)

What do you like?

Ah...the good ol music thread, always pops up every few months :)

Well I'll listen to just about anything, since I play the guitar I'm quite a fan of rock, but I prefer more mellowed out stuff, not a heavy rock fan at all.

But my fave music is r'n'b and soul music, and two step garage which is the new sound of the UK. Watch out for Craig David in the US, he's gonna be massive!

Anything But Rap & Opera

Everything from late 60's rock on is good.

And, being from the Lone Star state myself, I am partial to a lot of our 'local' artists, including Robert Earl Keen, Jr.; Joe Ely; Jimmy Lafave; Toni Price; Pat Green; Kevin Deal; Bruce & Charlie Robison.....oh and yeah, Charlie's wife plays in a pretty neat band too....<grin>

I'm into tons of things.......I write my own songs and record them here at my house. I've had a mild amount of success in getting played on local college radio but it's WAY more a hobby than anything else.
Now as to what I like.....
energy: 311, dial-7, shootyz groove, 2Skinnee J's
somber: acetone, some tricky,
fun: G. Love, Phunk Junkeez, Primus
rock: Shiner, Dismemberment Plan, The Weakerthans
uniqueness: System of a Down, Jethro tull
speaking of older bands: byrds, donovan, dylan, and of course the beatledZepsabbath,
mainstream: Our lady peace, Foo-fighters, linkin park, Blind Melon (one of my alltime faves, Shannon's death rocked me infinitely more than kurt Cobains, and it happened right down the street at tipitina's)

I love local stuff....New Orleans has a pretty healthy scene...
I'm really REALLY into an alternative country band from Chicago called The Blacks.

All of these choices will likely change tommorrow... :)

Shit, I just realized I'm rambling!

One other thing, How many Texicans are on this board any way? I'm from Houston originally, by way of humble, new caney, and Galveston. Alot of my family lives in Victoria and the surrounding....
Nice to see the Lone Star's in the house...I miss it so...
New Orleans has NO idea how to make mexican food....Pinto beans and white rice does not an enchilada make! Quesadillas that look like flat grill cheese sandwiches, OY VEY!

Yep. And Staind is releasing a new one next week. Should be awesome.

[/B][/QUOTE]

Staind is only so-so with me. Mudshovel was rockin but it wore out for me pretty fast....the other slower songs I've heard recently however are great....

that one..."it's been awhile...since" I don't know the names but that tune hits home for me. Don't they do an acoustic version of this one?
Staind is playing here next month as part of some huge festival....friends are urging me to go and I'm resisting....so far.

Just to mention some.

Mostly old 70's music, Eagles, Reo, Pink Floyd, Journey, Boston. Ahhhh, now that was music. Since becoming single, I have found myself gravitating towards Country music, and wondering " How can they see my life, heh " . Very depressing, yet satisfying somehow.

Mostly old 70's music, ...Boston..

Talk about memories.. I remember bringing Boston's first album home. Getting stoned, cranking it up, reading the liner notes about how they had to invent most of the gear needed to produce that unigue sound. It was a near-religious experience.

You need to get outta that house, girl. :( That stuff should contain warning labels about causing sever brain rot. :D

Ahhhhh, that explains alot, and here I thought it was early Alzheimers.. I remember buying my first album, Lynard Skynard, what a band they were! Sitting on my bedroom floor, eating a sugar sandwich (hey, we were hard up ), and losing myself in the words. Amazing how a song can send you right back to a particular place and time. I remember the song that was playing when I made love for the first time, "The wheel in the sky" by, Journey. On a river bank, in Georgia, under a huge Oak tree. I think that was the only time I was able to hit a note as high as Journey could, heh..

Country Music Titles

Nothing more amusing than some of the wonderful title of country music:

"If You Don't Believe I Love You, Ask My Wife"

"I'm Sorry If I Woke You, I Forgot That I Don't Live Here Anymore"

"I Was Born Yesterday, But I Was Up Late Last Night"

i love the 80's rock very much but i listen to anything except rap.
i enjoy much of the alternative music of today as long as it has a good beat and lyrics you can understand.
i also enjoy the new up and coming country singers/bands
i also enjoy the old traditional country music and bluegrass as well.
