Your pets and you

I would love to have one of these...

Savannah Cats

They're big and beautiful!

Indeed that is a beautiful cat. I would love to see one close up and purrsonal.

For years I was owned and loved a southern Bobcat. (I told her story here before.) She was one of the most loving cats I have ever dealt with. (Not to mention one of the larger ones.)

Somehow I seem to be attracted to cats. (Go figure)

All 3 of my kitties (and my roommates one also) are rescued in some way shape or form. First 2 were sisters found living in a chicken coop with no momma, about a year old. The newest addition, almost 6 months old, is the baby of a stray we still feed. She has 2 other sisters but they were too feral. This one would let us pick her up and loves loves loves attention. Purrs just from being looked at, or getting a bath from her new sisters. I need to update my myspace pics to newer pics of the older ones, and add a pic of the new baby. :)

Ex had a dog when I met her, so had a sweetheart of a pit bull in the house. She was soo a baby and not a dog. She would get scared and shaky whenever it would rain to the point of having to force her to go out to go to the bathroom.

Pets are definitely family in my eyes. Well, except spiders. Having those as pets is just gross! :D

LOL

Our cats right now are a diverse lot. All of them in one way or another are rescues.

Smokey was our first. I was walking past a Crack House that had been busted the day before. As I walked past I heard a sound from inside and when I looked in saw a kitten hobbling around. This multicolored cat was smaller than my hand. I broke a window and climbed in. It took a bit to catch her but when I did she curled up in my paw. I dropped her into the top pocket of my field jacket and climbed out of the house. She was named Smokey because she was mostly gray, but I still call her Crackhead because I swear she sampled the goods in the house. She is neurotic and sometimes brutal towards other cats yet she is also loving. (She hates to be picked up.)

Shay was the cat owned by a co-worker. He was three years old and had his front claws removed by her. Her live in borfriend decided he just had to have a Pitbull. The dog didn't like the cat and went after it at any opportunity. When she complained he informed her she had to get rid of the cat or it would become puppy chow. I heard about it and told her to bring him over to our place. Shay hid under the couch for the first couple of days. When he started coming out he showed that he was a clumsy yet loving vat. He acted just like a Bone Head so we started calling him Bubba. So Bubba Shay he is.

The other three are the children of Critter. She as you know died recently. Her children are all well behaved yet insane. They take after their Momma. More than half wild they keep us entertained as well as on our toes. And yet they are loved and loving.

Another animal I had who set himself in my heart was Thump. Thump was a skunk. I met him when he was small. (I'm sure I mentioned this here before.) I had knelt down to scratch my neighbors cat and the cat moved around behind me as cats will. A short time later as I was scratching the cat I saw movement off to the side. When I looked it was the neighbors cat. I looked down to see who I was scratching and saw it was a younger skunk.

The next day the skunk was waiting for me. I gave it a scratch in passing. It seemed to love it. Every time I came outside the skunk was waiting for me. It quickly figured out my patio and climbed up to it. It waited to be fed and wanted attention. Through that summer it grew and hung around us. When it started getting cold Thump started trying to get inside. Finally it did without our noticing. We came home from work to find it curled up on the couch. It hopped down and greeted us, then demanded food.

Thump would wait at the door every morning and evening. It would go out and do it's bussiness before coming back inside. He was more than loving, he would sleep in our bed. He waited for us to come hme from work, just as he would see us off in the morning. He mooched food from us and greeted our guests. He helped us raise Smokey. Never once did he spray inside the apartment, He died in his sleep six years after we took him in.

Wow, a skunk would be interesting..I would think it would take a while to stop holding your breath around him/her.

Over the year we have had several pets but none were as close to me as Lady Tugbutton of C&L Farm, Tug for short. She was a fullblooded papered Pug that my daughter traded her truck for and gave to me for my birthday. She was the runt of the litter and the people who had her called her She Devil. She was always tugging on something. When we went to get her,Hubby was holding her and she started tugging on the buttons of his shirt. Hence, her name. She loved to play tug of war with socks and she didn't care if you were wearing them or not. She would get in the basket of dirty clothes and root till she found one. My grandson said he wanted to train her to be a circus dog because she would jump twice her height to get a sock. Unfortunately, she also liked to visit the neighbors across the road and got hit by a car on her way home one day. I cried forever!
The cat that we have now is nammed Sassy and i adopted her from an elderly client of mine who couldn't keep her when she moved into an adult foster home. She has been declawed and is still the best mouser we have ever had. She runs around here like crazy when she hears the slightest sound. She has a loud purr when sleeping but doesn't have a loud meow, more like a little chirp when she wants something. She keeps bumping my arms or legs when she reallllllyyy wants something, like pets or a belly rub. Hubby broke his ankle this past Feb and she kept wanting to lay next to his foot. He would push her away because it hurt. I read a couple of months ago about how cats purrs are thought to help broken bones mend because of the sonic waves emitted when they purr. Now we wonder if that's what she was trying to do.

When I was about 8 or 9, it was raining, but I ran out to the car to get something. On my way back to the house, I saw the glint of eyes under our kitchen door porch. I started to investigate, until I saw it was a dog. I was wary.. what if it bit me? But he made no move to come after me, so I crept a little closer. I finally ended up on my knees in the mud, trying to coax the doggie out. He wouldn't budge.
The porch was wood, so rain was leaking between the slats, and he was shivering. So I got up and ran in to get my mom. She came out, warning me to stay back, but I figured if the dog was going to attack me, he would have done it already. He stubbornly refused to budge from under that deck.
So my mom went inside and got a trash bag and covered him up with it, trying to keep him a little more dry.
The next day, we figured he'd be gone. He wasn't. He was studdle under the porch, still covered by the bag. It had quit raining, and we finally managed to get him to come out.
I begged and pleaded and finally my mom and stepdad said I could keep him.
When we took him to the vet, they said he was about 2 or 3, and was a Pit Bull/Lab mix. I named him Blackie.
He had what can only be described as cigarette burns on his head and the top of his snout. My mom smoked at the time, and he was perfectly fine, then my mom lit a cigarette, and as soon as he caught scent of the smoke he flipped out. All his life, even in later years, you always had to hide your cigarette from him.
Through the years, he became less 'my' dog and more my stepdad's. Last summer, (05) we had to have him put to sleep. My mom was at work, so my stepdad took him. I met him up there. I've never seen such a sight- He sat there with 50lb Blackie on his lap, and cried like a baby.

Animals wiggle their way into your heart and there's no getting them out.
