I've only been to the part of Ireland near Dublin, so I'm not sure this helps.

I was in a little pub in a tiny town and tried to have a conversation about football with the guy sitting next to me. I'm not an idiot, I know what football is (round ball, kicked with the feet, goals at either end, as opposed to the oblong ball version - why would anyone want oblong balls?). So, I was expecting to discuss that. It turned out, he was trying to be nice and discuss "American Football", but it half the conversation for me to figure that out...
