it was always a great excuse for a mega party in late teens/early 20s ...... queued from about 3pm to get into the Coach. Now in 'later years' I agree that being stood up all night in a crowded bar is less appealing

Chris, NYE doesn't hold it for me as well. It did when I was younger, but I realized very early on that I didn't need an excuse to practice binge drinking. And I was never one for big crowds.
