Re: Paper Kite
Hi Zhuk,
Sorry. I've been a bit slow posting on this thread. I've been reading your work here, but out of all your poems (posted here) my favorite is Paper Kite. I'm especially fond of the lines "What keeps you aloft are little sticks and gusts of air." The feel of it enthralls me -- the flimsy paper attached to earth by a tiny string, supported only by the occasional gust -- just like some people riding around on inflated egos, attached to earth by a very thin thread of reality. Very nice imagery. I can almost hear the paper rattling in the breeze.
Now for my characteristic tangent of idiocy: My cousins and I once made a kite out of newspaper (the personal ads section) and a set of busted rabbit ear antennae. We took it to a field and it flew quite well until a sudden down draft sent it hurtling to the earth. This would have been fine, except that it took a nosedive into the area where Old Man Singer's cows were grazing. It darted one of the cows right in the ass. We all ran away, laughing as we went. I wondered what Singer would think when he found a bunch of personal ads and t.v. antennae in his pasture. But I also felt bad for the cow.

One who is flying so high,
will soon come down to earth,
with strutting unreal ways,
you cause boredom & mirth.
When you are dancing above,
always remember and care,
what keeps you aloft are
little sticks & gusts of air.
Consider who holds the string,
that steers your flimsy flight,
in His strong and tender hands,
O’ tethered paper kite.
