Day 18: A song from the year you were born

Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits

I was tempted to post a different song just so I could use this gif, but I like Dire Straits (and Mark Knopfler) a lot more.

Wise decision 😊

Day 17; A song from your pre-teen years

I was OBSESSED with this song back in the day.

Toy Soldiers - Martika

(I realize that I'm falling behind on my replies, and this isn't even your most recent song post anymore.
Work has gotten busy, and I'm neglecting my Lit duties. Apologies!)

I luv this song choice! This is one of my favourite "type" of posts to discover... a song that I once knew very well, but had completely forgotten!
Usually it's songs that I know intimately, and go 'oh yes'... or songs that I've never heard, and think 'very cool'...
But with this one, it's like unearthing a buried memory. If you had told me Martika, or even 'Toy Soldiers', I'm not too sure that it would've meant anything to me. But as soon as I saw the picture, and the artist, and the song all together (as well as knowing the prompt)... it was like, 'oh damn, I remember this... and I luv this song!' Well played. I think that I enjoyed this song even more just listening to it now than I did when I was young. Thank you!

While the whole band isn't queer, the lead singer is gay. And the song was co-written by him, Rob Halford, so I'm claiming it for my own personal challenge of only posting songs by queer / trans artists this month.

I could have gone with more conventional choices here like Queen, or Elton John, but I haven't posted anything metal in so long lol

Judas Priest - Cheater

I luv Judas Priest, but I never expected to see them in your personal challenge this month!
What a delightful surprise! And a perfect choice now that I'm actually thinking about it...
I almost forgot that Rob is such a gay icon... I usually just think of him as one of my musical heroes.
I really luv that he's both!!! Fantastic song choice!

A friend of mine just met Rob in person! He's been a fan since we were kids and finally had the chance. It was such a lovely moment, and lovely photo!

I can't imagine what metal would be like without Rob. He brought leather and studs into the metal world from the gay scene in Soho, and single-handedly created an entire fashion scene. The man's a living legend. Saw them live maybe 15 years ago or so, incredible to see him still riding onto the stage on his Harley😹

I think we might have seen them around the same time! I "saw" them on the 'Nostradamus' tour.
Unfortunately, I had to put 'saw them' in quotations because this was before I cleaned up my lifestyle, and the whole night is a patchwork of memories, memory gaps, and a combination good dream/ bad trip... which is really too bad because I had been looking forward to seeing them for years. Fortunately, I did attain some sort of consciousness for Rob entering on his Harley! Your friend was very lucky to meet him in person! So cool...
I remember that it felt really 'important' when Rob came out. Although perhaps not unexpected... as Axl might say, "there were always ample warnings, there were always subtle signs" (lol)... but definitely important. Adding to his legend in a whole new way! But I did always think that it was quite amusing how so many of the macho metal meatheads couldn't seem to piece together the origin story of their tough-guy fashion choices... haha. Such a big impact on the metal scene! Legendary!

And Rob is incredibly nice, at least he was to the stage crew. Walked around to introduce himself and thank everyone when we were setting up. The whole band was sincerely polite to people they didn't need to have to be to, and that is just quality humaning.

This makes me really happy! This is so nice to read.
It's refreshing to hear that a band I've enjoyed for the majority of my life are quality people, as well.
Thank you for sharing this behind-the-scenes information with us!

Day 19: A song you'd play for your haters

Twilight Distillery - The Minus 5

Not really sure what this means today, but i'd just walk away singing this in my head as it often pops up when things swirl and get messy.
