Day 12: A song about change

This song is about Eminem’s grief, self hatred, addiction, and change—sobriety.
And aside from the subject matter, Eminem is really just a fucking talented rap lyricist. His use of all the different types of rhyme- end, internal, slant (?)- is just so skillful.
Really great track. Worth a listen, IMO, even if you don’t like rap.

Yess! I love this one. And I completely agree, Eminem's in my top 3 when it comes to writers, together with MF Doom and Pase Rock. I can't rank the three though. They're all incredible..

Day 13: A song by an artist you have the hots for
Oh.

Oh god.

Uh... Might be worth a spanking to choose several songs today. But no. I must be strong. I don't know who I'm going to pick. But thanks for giving me a reason to creep on instagram. It's for research, after all.

When he is on, there are few artists who can write, much less rap, with as much skill as Eminem has. His flow is brilliant, and his rhyming schemes show intense poeticism (slant rhyme is a near but not quite rhyme -- "napping at noon" slant rhyming with "snapping at you," for example). His internal rhymes are just fucking brilliant, and the speed of how often he rhymes is unreal. Just skill.

And I love using the sample from Black Sabbath's "Changes" (please don't spank me. Or do spank me--I deserve it), which covers some of the same ground of love and loss. It shows a great understanding of not only his music, but other genres as well.

When he is not on, he literally does Pee-Wee Herman impressions for far too long. But we won't get into that...

Okay. I'm going to take this in a different direction.

There are several different types of attraction... Physical, sexual, mental, spiritual, societal... It can be animalistic, platonic, tender, violent, it can be beautiful and horrible and completely normal.

Set the stage; it's the early naughts. Enter stage left, V. It's Friday, she's clubbing, she's drinking and laughing and dancing. V steps away from the bar and, not knowing herself, she picks a boy and they dance the night away. It's close, he's fine, it's steamy. His hands wander, not uninvited mind you, but something lurches in her mind. She pushes away. Laughs it off. Confusion. Doesn't understand why someone so gorgeous can be so revolting up close.

It wasn't until much later that I was able to put words to my feelings. Attraction doesn't need to be sexual. They're separate entities. But, as Todd so eloquently put it in Scrubs, "The Todd appreciates hot, regardless of gender".

Jason "Timbuktu" Diakité is a human rights activist, a spokesperson for the UN, a rapper, singer, and all around wonderful human being. During the 2015 European migrant crisis he gave a speech on racism which shook the country. "My Passport" as the speech is called, is as powerful as it is beautiful. And so is he. But even though I find him ridiculously gorgeous, I'd never bonk him.

I could pick any song by her but I'll go for this one. The future Mrs Great_Scot Amy Lee. To me she is perfect. As a 45 year old guy it's a bit sad but there we go. Honorable mentions to Debbie Harry, Stevie Nicks and the three Christina Aguileras from the Candyman video.

Cassandra Jenkins - Clams Casino
Redhead, birdwatcher, great musician... what's not to crush on. She's also very lovely, met her at an instore a little while back and she was very kind and funny. Loved her music for the last few years, the songs seems to hit a spot of the odd and out of place.

Me with the hots for someone? Well that's a dangerous scenario. Which is why she and I should never hook up, because the seas would boil and angels would sing or explode (I forget which) and I'd stop going to work and basically the world has enough problems as it is.

Thankfully, my type is rare. But it helps that the video is fun.

Crushing hard lately. Something about the way he plays has my mind wandering. Although not at the moment. Something about a waiting room at 4.30am keeps the horn at bay.

Well damn. I have a new crush. 🥵

Chappell Roan has a strong following in this thread. Our lovely Princess, @morelikeasong, introduced me and I jumped down the rabbit hole. I was impressed enough that I went out and bought The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess straightway. It is an impressive album. I love a lot about her. Her songwriting is first-rate, and she can come up with some amazing hooks. Her style is anchored in synthpop, but she expands well beyond that. Her vocals are deeply layered and beautifully engineered, but if you listen to her Tiny Desk Concert (and you should absolutely listen to her Tiny Desk Concert), you can see that her vocal skills are not a studio invention. She can sing. Her songs are fantastic, and deep into modern romance and LGBTQ+ issues, but all handled with grace and humor. And she has an outstanding backing band (again, go fucking watch the Tiny Desk Concert. I'll wait.) Add to that her story, and her perseverance in chasing her dream and her calling, is wonderfully attractive. The drag esthetic is wonderful.

I wouldn't say I have "the hots," per se, but I have a type. Not that I am exclusively attracted to it, but...I have a type. A weakness, even. And she checks off a lot of boxes. I will leave it at that. This is one of her songs that hasn't shown up yet, and shows her humor in a lovely example of modernized synthypop.

"Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl," Chappell Roan
