Day 17: A song with a state in the name

I came to this song way later in life than I should have, but it's still one that chills me a little bit when you think about the subject matter. I'm sure something about it isn't lost on me given its proximity to where I live now, and the fact that we have a Presidential candidate who has advocated shooting protesters in the past. And I love this version. There are a number out there that are all acoustic guitars, but I think the electric here gives the song some bite.

Day 17: A song with a state (or county for non US?) in the name or lyrics

This song is based on a legend, and one that happens to be verifiable. On February 13th, 2000, a coyote hopped onto an airport bound Max Light Rail train and took his seat. He didn't pay, but that made him just like about 70% of the people on MAX.

This ended up in the local newspaper, and another Stumptown legend was born.
I'm obsessed 😍 He's so cute!
Video unavailable for me but know it. I love Loreena. Seen her three times now.
Ngl, I'm jealous. That was the reminder I needed to sign up for tour notifications ✅ I'm sure she's amazing live.

I’m shocked I haven’t posted this song before. It could work for so many prompts for me- a love song, a heartbreak song, a song you listen to more than once in a row, a most played song on your playlist…

There’s something about this song. I’m the singer; I’m the subject. I’m enamored with it.
The song was released 10 years ago. I think I found it 5ish years ago and it’s still heavy in the rotation.

“And I could easily lose my mind
The way you kiss me will work each time
Pulling me back into the flames
And I'm burning up again

Carrying Your Love With Me - George Strait

Cause I'm carryin' your love with me
West Virginia down to Tennesse
I'll be movin' with the good Lord's speed
Carryin' your love with me
It's my strength for holdin' on
Every minute that I have to be gone
I'll have everything I'll ever need
I'm carryin' your love with me

Day 18: A song for a celebration

I'm lucky. So very very lucky. We've been together well over a decade now and, honestly, while time has flown by we've also made a tiny universe of memories together. She's absolutely everything I want, I need, I love. And that's worth celebrating. I think I'll make dinner tonight. Something fancy. 💘

REO Speedwagon - Heart of Gold
Every time she looks my way
I lose control, what can I say
she's everything I've ever been after, whoa!
I found the Girl with the Heart of Gold 💛

What’s better to celebrate than a birthday?

In our home, as we raised our kids, we almost never sang the generic “Happy Birthday to You”. For one thing, it’s boring. For another it’s too prone to diverging into “you look like a monkey and you smell like one too”. No offense intended @SalaciousMonkey22

No, we always sing the chorus to John McCutcheon’s ‘Cut the Cake’. It’s a lot more upbeat and less likely to turn into a personal insult.
