Day 23: A song from the 10s

I was talking the other day about "Clap/Stomp/Hey!" alt folk. "Ho Hey," is as "Clap/Stomp/Hey!" as you get, even having "hey" in the title. It was written to get under the skins of aloof New Yorkers when the band was first starting out in Brooklyn. They figured yelling a lot would get indifferent concertgoers' attention. And it worked, as it got everyone's attention.

I like this song because it lacks any pretense or illusions. It is as straightforward and sincere a song you will hear produced in these cynical years. I also love it because when I lived in New York, I lived in SoHo, so I know exactly what it feels like standing on Canal and Bowery streets in Chinatown. It is a big intersection, and there is a small concrete island between the roads, complete with trees and dying grass on it. There is a park bench there, or there was one 30 years ago. It is a nice place to wait for something that may or may not work out.

Ho! Hey! indeed.

"Ho Hey," The Lumineers. (2012)

(+1 for Canal St and Bowery St, and Chinatown, Manhattan, NY, for 6 pts (and 10 Flirtpoints))

(I belong with you, you belong with me...)

By my count there's at least 31 different places named in this song. What kind of prize does that get me?

Let me add it up. Yes, that's a lot, isn't it. This should be interesting to see. So...okay...yeah...carry the three...

One point.
