Day 10: A song that's tied to a time and place

the time - the mid to late 80's and the place was very dark.
Originally released as a single and ignored, but it was THE song for the fans who stuck with the band during the tough times of no record contract. They played live and supported themselves with merch sales... and they played this song. The crowd would often invade the stage and sit down. The band persevered and a new record label came along... there was some success and the corner was turned.
The end of the year and a tour, big venues, sold out and new fans, but the old ones remained. Brixton Academy and the crowd bayed for more. a friend turned to me, his first time seeing them live...
"what's left to play?"
I smiled and the crowd roared as the band came back...
This started and everyone sang it... then, in the middle, something happened... the crowd started sitting and soon the whole venue, which was rammed full, was down and the band looked out... stunned... and they stopped playing. The crowd carried on singing and the band stood and watched us.
The next gig was their big homecoming at Manchester and it happened again.
It was out way of sharing with the band, THAT song was OUR song. It unified us in those darkest hours, theirs and ours. That time was over, we had weathered the storm
"If i hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor"

Day 10: A song that’s tied to a time and place

I've always loved this song but the first time I saw the video is what sticks with me 🤩 A friend and I were hanging out at her place when she shared this performance with me. I've been low-key obsessed ever since. Eartha Kitt is and always will be an icon.

Waiting for the 7.18 - Bloc Party

Long before I’d been to London or became a train commuter myself, I loved the soundscape and the lyrics in this song. And when I was back in London earlier this year, I actually made sure to spend a day in Brighton ❤️

I'd not be so scared of falling”

Day 10: A song that’s tied to a time and place

I am having a rough afternoon. Memories of the sandbox. Tonight I will go to better time and place. And just reflecting back to this nite makes me happier.

My wife and I had just met and were going out like crazy. It was a gorgeous June day and I was able to swap dad duties with my ex.

We were jointly celebrating our birthdays (3 days apart). She was dressed super sexy - a dress w a zipper down the front and back strapped heels. She was (and still is) a total smoke show that night.

My now wife’s husband had passed 9 mos earlier and I was recently divorced. But we had an amazing connection right away. Same musical tastes. (Our first date was Fountains of Wayne)

We went to NYC, went shopping and had an early dinner in the village. The show was scheduled early at The Highline Ballroom (like weirdly a 7pm
Show) We got there and saw Hacienda and then The Duke Spirit took the stage. It was loud and heavy. An amazing show. They were really bringing it. We met some people who knew the band afterwards, so we stayed late met the band and had several drinks with them before they headed out for more nightlife.

It was an amazing night! Sorta just what we needed. And reflecting back is just what I needed today. Writing this gave me good focus!!

(we found out later that some people did not know that the showtime was so early, because they opened the club up to become a dance club at 10:30. We met one person who had just gotten there and missed the whole thing.😬)
