🎵 Monthly Song Challenge 🎵

Risking a spanking by saying my favorite theme in the streaming era is True Detective Season 1, so good. I’d always listen through.
Yeah… “risking”

But that is also an excellent point I did skip but not because I didn’t love the song. Peacemaker had the performance aspect too thought

Day 10: A song that's tied to a time and place

I had a different song locked and loaded to post last night and then I ended up going down a google/reddit hole and learning that the band said some racist shit.

Sooooo instead I’m going to go a completely different direction.
I almost never post the same band two days in a row, but this is what popped into my head when thinking of a new pick this morning 🤷‍♀️

This song is tied forever to one specific shower cry session.

Gregory and The Hawk - A Wish

I went down the Gregory and The Hawk rabbit hole after you posted them on Saturday (I love a good Limewire-like story, what can I say? and I loved the song), and this one struck me then as well. It is sweet and sad and painfully wise. I could see it as a soundtrack to a good shower cry.

"And I guess it doesn't matter what I am or pretend to be
'Cause it's her you'll always love
And it's her I'll always envy
Wanna end this now so dreams of you won't keep me up
And I swear I'm gonna cry, I'm sick of trying to be tough"

That definitely hits a deep emotional space.

Thank you, as always, for new artists to love.

Day 11: A TV show theme song

I’m not a big anime guy. Really giant robots is all, and this is not my favorite giant robot anime. But this song slaps yo!

This song strikes me as the type, for me at least, that the first time I hear it I’m like “yeah I kinda like this” and by the 10th episode I’m completely jamming to it
Day 8: A song that reminds you of young love

Once again, I'm a laggard, owing to being 1) old 2) depressed and as a result 3) lacking motivation on 100 fronts. That said, this song is one of those that immediately popped into my head. It's of course, par for the course with me, of my very late 90s, early 200s youth with all the emo undertones you'd come to expect.

You always come through with the emo for me 😍 I have so many fond memories of this song.

Bad boy.

Love how songs reach people in such individual ways. That verse you quoted is actually the one that is least tied to the memory and feeling of that song, for me. But it just goes to show that rarely are we hearing the same song when we listen.
Glad you found some new music!

Day 11: A TV show theme song

White Horses - Jacky Lee
I can't remember the show, just the song lodged in my brain that plays, oddly, whenever i look at waves on a rough sea.
I also remember the Trashcan Sinatras (UK band) taking to the stage in London to this song.
Apropos of nothing, I love The Trashcan Sinatras. They were a very close second for Saturday's prompt.

Well, that's the joy of it. We come to a common spot, but each with a messy mix of history and emotions. There is commonality in it, with any art, but as each of us is a collage of our lives, the same words can hit in such different ways.

I love the totality of the song (quoting all of it seemed excessive, even for the wordy guy), but that small section hit the "sweet and sad and painful" part well. This song sang to me for that mix.

Day 11: A tv show theme song

So I guess it was Bear McCreary's idea to rock out in the opening credits for a show about Catherine de' Medici and it absolutely works for me. I'm about as far from a royalist as possible but I do love a show about a badass queen from hundreds of years ago and I love a female vocalist scream singing 😍 It's an unexpected joy for me to see the two combined.

The Serpent Queen - Bear McCreary ft. Esjay Jones
I think you’re the ONLY one who found this unexpected.

Day 11: A tv show theme song
most of mine were taken already...excellent choices everyone...but i'll take this theme song from one of my favorite feel good shows over something even more iconic but ultimately skippable (like the game of thrones these song)

Day 12: A TV show theme song

I used this in the daily challenge almost three months ago as a song that "stopped you in your tracks," so please let me use it again in the spirit of participation. Thank you, Lit. I do love this song...

I don't remember how it happened, but this song became the "theme song" for my high school JV football team. We'd sing it during our runs, on bus rides, at midfield, in a large huddle after we won... And the lyrics listed always touched my heart -- then and now. It was a beautiful dream and so many of us sang it with conviction and a wish that we could, possibly one day, achieve such a thing together.

"We had a dream we'd go travelin' together
And spread a little lovin' if we'll keep movin' on"

Day 12: A TV show theme song

I wrote a lot, but this probably summarize sit all up. Some of the worst shit I’ve ever seen with some of the best people.

And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Welcome home brothers and sisters, esp Geo, Trev and McLoud. B 2/12 Cav

Catch-22.
