🎡 Monthly Song Challenge 🎡

This was the music I was raised on and it explains so much about why I am the way I am.

2025 is the year we collectively start to learn how to use our voice. I've been on the Frontline front lines of some deep political movements and I'm feeling the rest of America (and the world) start to understand the systems in play and question their validity. The momentum is building and the everyday people are fighting back against a very unjust and cruel system.

We have the chance to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older
We're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?

You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
Oh, whoa
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh, whoa

This time, we know we all can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing we can make it better
Ooh, we're all someone's daughter
We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?

You're The Voice - John Farnham

Day 2: A song that’s under 3 minutes long

One of the greatest punk albums ever, We're a happy family, put together just after Joey's death, and right before Johnny's... A tribute to the Ramones; a bunch of different artists, from KISS to Tom Waits, covering their favorite Ramones songs. Gah it's too damn good.

Green Day - Outsider

Day 2: A song that's under 3 minutes

Punk rock is the obvious solution here. But I’m in a ska/bluebeat/rocksteady mood today.

There are a couple of good songs by Blue Rivers and his Maroons, but I could only find ones that were only > three minutes.

So I went to this classic.

Desmond Dekker - 007 (Shanty Town)
I love this!
